New Matches Announced For AEW Double Or Nothing

Multiple massive matches has been announced for Double or Nothing that is scheduled to take place on May 30, 2021 at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida. ## It will be the third event in the Double or Nothing chronology. The event was originally scheduled to take place on May 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the Las Vegas Strip, but was moved due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ## On May 5 at Blood and Guts, a match between Orange Cassidy (#1) and Pac (#2), the two top-ranked singles wrestlers in AEW, was announced for the following week's episode of Dynamite, with the winner receiving a match for the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing. ## PAC vs. Orange Cassidy ended in a double count-out on tonight’s AEW Dynamite in a Number One Contender Match. Afterwards, AEW President Tony Khan told Tony Schiavone to announce both PAC and Cassidy will face Omega for the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing on May 30. ## Plush, The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) will put the titles on the line against Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. ## Also announced for the PPV is a Casino Battle Royale with the winner receiving a future title shot. AEW World Champion Kenny Omega Issues Statement On AEW Revolution Explosion Dud

The main event at AEW Revolution saw Kenny Omega defended the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley in an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch. In this particular match, three of the four sides of the ring ropes were replaced with barbed wire, which would explode if a wrestler made contact with them, and if the match did not conclude within 30 minutes, the ring would explode and whoever was left standing would be the winner.## In the end, Omega received help from his allies Don Callis and The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson) in beating up Moxley and handcuffing him. Omega then won the match after performing a "One-Winged Angel" on Moxley onto a steel chair. After the match, Omega, Gallows, and Anderson continued to beat down Moxley until the one-minute timer began counting down for the ring to explode.## The three departed but before the ring could explode, Eddie Kingston ran down to try and save Moxley. Kingston was not able to unhandcuff Moxley and covered Moxley to protect him from the explosion. Medical personnel tended to both wrestlers as the show went off the air.## There was negative criticism towards the aftermath of the Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch, in which the ring was set to detonate after a 30-minute timer expired, with Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley still inside, but ended in a visually weak-looking explosion that "didn't come anywhere near" the wrestlers, leading to what critics felt was an underwhelming payoff.## AEW World Champion Omega, expressed his disappointment with the dud and issued the following statement to the Wrestling Observer on the explosion:## “Yeah, it was really deflating to do so much preparation, test the explosions, have them be impressive in the rehearsal, and then have it be something so much different than what was promised. It made me appreciate everyone who worked hard and did their part even more, though. But like you said, we really wanted to have a good one, and we added real barbed wire to help with the feeling of danger so we really risked a lot. Here is the full list of AEW TNT champions! ## In the lead-up to their first weekly television program, Dynamite, AEW's Cody teased the eventual introduction of a television championship. And in March 2020, a secondary championship was officially announced: the AEW TNT Championship. The inaugural champion was crowned following an eight-man, single-elimination tournament, with Cody emerging victorious at Double or Nothing in May 2020. His first reign saw him defend the title on a near weekly televised basis, even against independent wrestlers outside of the promotion, resulting in the signings of Ricky Starks and Eddie Kingston. During his second reign, Cody was forced to add his last name back to his ring name, Cody Rhodes, following a legal battle with WWE. ## In honor of the late Brodie Lee, AEW retired the red strap version of the title belt used up to that point and presented it to Lee's son, Brodie Lee Jr., as a tribute. A new black strap version of the belt was debuted by Darby Allin in January 2021. ## In December 2021, Cody Rhodes became a record three-time TNT Champion, defeating Sammy Guevara. However, he was forced to pull out of a scheduled rematch due to being in contact with family members who had tested positive for COVID-19.
