Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios Pins Big Hopes On 'Vikram 2' And 'PS-2' In Hindi

Mumbai, October 9 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is rocking at the box office as it crossed the 350 crores mark in just 9 days. The Hindi version of the movie was released by Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios.## Jayantilal Gada has had success this year with the Hindi version of South Indian films like "RRR", "Vikram", and "Sita Ramam" along with "PS-1", which has so far scored over 16 crores net. Interestingly, there will be the second parts of "Vikram" and "Ponniyin Selvan", and Jayantilal Gada believes that these two films will be huge hits in the Hindi version. ## "Vikram has established the future of this franchise in Hindi belts. Part 2 will be a blockbuster. The same can be said for PS 2 as well. More and more people will watch both Vikram and PS 1 on the OTT world until the sequel arrives. If Sita Ramam team decides to make a sequel, even that will be a success story in Hindi", the producer said during the conversation with Pinkvilla. ## Pen Studios has been a regular collaborator of South Indian films for the Hindi market. "We are tailor-made for the south partners. We are the most transparent studio in Bollywood and that's why we are the first choice. We believe in doing business basis the trust", he added.## Ponniyin Selvan - Part 2 was shot simultaneously with the first part and it will go into post-production soon. The budget for the movie has been kept under check and both parts reportedly cost around 250 crores in the making. The second part will hit theaters in the summer of 2023. Box Office: PS-1 And Kantara Second Saturday Early Estimates

Chennai, October 8 - Blockbuster period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 sees an excellent jump of over 55% on its second Saturday at the domestic box office and grossed an estimated 17-18 crores. The total domestic gross collection is now approx. 235 crores. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, "PS-1" has crossed the 150 crores mark in the home state, Tamil Nadu, after scoring an estimated 11-12 crore gross on the second Friday. It is the fastest film ever to reach the milestone and is only the third film after "Vikram" and "Baahubali The Conclusion" to do so. ## "Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1" is sure to become the biggest grosser in Tamil Nadu while it also has real shot to become the first ever to enter 200 crores club. Meanwhile, the Hindi version of the movie is performing very well and sees a jump of almost 100% on its 9th day for an estimated 1.70 crores net. The total net collection in Hindi is approx. 16.75 crores while worldwide, it has crossed 350 crores including today's estimates.## Meanwhile, on the other hand, Kannada sensation Kantara hits 50 crores net after an estimated 8 crores on its second Saturday. The jump from the second Friday is approx. 55% while the same is approx. 80% from the first Saturday, which is massive, to say the least. ## Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role, "Kantara" has dropped only twice in its first 9 days. It is now heading towards a sure shot of 100 crores gross or maybe even higher, thanks to the super positive audience word of mouth. Box Office: PS-1 And Kantara Second Friday Early Estimates

Chennai, October 7 - Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 scores excellent second Friday at the domestic box office after registering one of the biggest first weeks for an Indian movie. ## The epic period action drama film had grossed over 321 crores worldwide in the first week and begins the second week with a solid estimated 11-12 crores gross for all languages. The drop from Sunday is approx. 23% which is excellent hold. ## The movie grossed approx. 132 crores in the home state, Tamil Nadu in the first week, and adds another 7-8 crores more on the second Friday. The total gross collection of the movie in the state is approx. 138 crores which are the 5th highest of all time. By the end of the 2nd weekend, the movie will become the second biggest movie in the state, and then the race to become the biggest will start. ## On the other hand, the Kannada blockbuster Kantara is in a rampage mode and starts the second weekend with a solid estimated 5-5.25 crores net. The movie sees a jump of around 5% on the second Friday from yesterday and as compared to the first Friday, the jump is over 120% which is massive. ## Written and directed by Rishab Shetty who also plays the lead role in the movie, "Kantara" scored around 38 crores net collection and with today's estimated total, the next collection reached approx. 43 crores. Superstar Rajinikanth To Headline Two New Films of Lyca Productions

Chennai, October 7 - Superstar Rajinikanth is currently shooting for director Nelson Dilipkumar's Jailer, which is scheduled to release in 2023. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. ## Now, according to the latest reports, the superstar has signed a two-film deal with one of the prominent production houses Lyca Productions. ## While the details about the projects are yet to be revealed, the first film, tentatively titled "Thalaivar 170", will reportedly be directed by Cibi Chakravarthy who recently scored a blockbuster with Sivakarthikeyan's "Don". ## The second film in the deal is likely to be directed by Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth, and reports indicate that the Superstar will have a small role in the film and is not playing the lead. Box Office: PS-1 And Kantara First Thursday Early Estimates

Chennai, October 6 - The epic blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 holds strongly on its first Thursday and scored an estimated 13-14 crores, taking a total domestic gross collection to over 215 crores in one week. ## The movie continues to score in the home state, Tamil Nadu as it scored an estimated approx. 9 crores on Thursday. The total collection in the state has reached approx. 140 crores and it is expected to near 200 crores by the end of the second weekend. ## After the original Tamil language, the dubbed Hindi version has been the most fruitful for the movie. It minted 13.4 crores net in the first 6 days and mints approx. 80 lakh more on Thursday. At the worldwide box office, "PS-1" has crossed 330 crores after today's collection. ## Meanwhile, the Kannada movie Kantara has had another big day at the box office and minted an estimated 5.50 crores net on Thursday, dropping just 20% from yesterday. The first-week collection of this Rishab Shetty-starrer has reached approx. 38.50 crores net while worldwide, it is near the 50 crores mark. ## "Kantara" is the best-rated movie of all time on Book My Show and it is performing exceptionally well at the box office. Box Office: PS-1 Sets All-Time Record In The UK And Beats 'Kabali' In The USA

Chennai, October 6 - One of the biggest Indian blockbusters of 2022, Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has created an all-time record for a Tamil movie in the United Kingdom. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, the epic period action drama film has become the first Tamil movie to £1 million (Rs. 9.3 crores). The previous record belonged to Kamal Haasan's recently released all-time blockbuster Vikram which grossed £0.881 million (£881K) in its lifetime run. ## "PS-1" took just 6 days to reach 1 million pounds in the UK. Interestingly, "PS-1" is the 43rd highest-grossing Indian film of all-time and the fourth of 2022 to score £1 million in the UK, after the highest-grossing Indian film of 2022 KGF: Chapter 2 (£1.15M), the highest-grossing Bollywood movie of the year, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (£1.03M), and RRR (£1.03M). ## Meanwhile, after breaking the Tamil movie record in the UK, "PS-1" is now on its way to becoming the biggest Tamil grosser in the USA as well. The movie has overtaken Rajinikanth's Kabali ($4.58M) for the second biggest movie with $4.64 million in the USA. Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's 2.0 is the biggest Tamil movie there with $5.51 million. ## Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, "PS-1" has also crossed Rs. 300 crores mark at the worldwide box office in just 6 days. Box Office: PS-1 And Kantara First Wednesday Early Estimates

Chennai, October 5 - Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions' epic period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 has crossed 300 crores at the worldwide box office through the first Wednesday (6 days). ## The Mani Ratnam-directed film scored an estimated 24 crores gross on its first Monday, dropping approx. 7% from Tuesday. The total domestic gross collection has also crossed the 200 crores mark, for approx. 201 crores. "PS-1" is the second Tamil movie of 2022 to score 200 crores gross domestically.## Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, "Ponniyin Selva - 1" continues to score big in the home state, Tamil Nadu as it grossed an estimated 17.50 crores more on Wednesday, pushing total collection in TN to over 130 crores in just 6 days. ## With the way "PS-1" is performing in Tamil Nadu, it is looking a sure shot 200 crores grosser in the state, which will make it the first ever film to achieve the feat. The movie is equally strong overseas for an estimated 115 crores gross till now, helping worldwide gross collection to reach over 315 crores after Wednesday.## Meanwhile, the Kannada movie Kantara is taking maximum use of the size of its release and turned out to be a massive blockbuster just like "PS-1". Kannada films have had great success this year, and "Kantara" is another huge blockbuster on the list. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer has grossed approx. 32 crores in the first five days, and it grossed an estimated 10.20 crores on its first Wednesday. Chennai, October 4 - Tamil blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is a one-horse race at the box office and is racing towards the 300 crores mark globally. ## Directed by Mani Ratnam, the movie has another massive day at the domestic box office, as it grossed an estimated 26-28 crores on its first Tuesday, jumping over 20% from Monday. The total domestic gross collection has reached approx. 180 crores in just 5 days. ## As reported earlier, "PS-1" has crossed 100 crores gross mark in Tamil Nadu state and becomes the fastest film ever to achieve the milestone. Box Office: 'PS-1' First Monday Early Estimates

Chennai, October 3 - Mani Ratnam's epic period action drama film Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is re-writing box office records for a Tamil movie and putting up a remarkable show. ## After the record-breaking opening weekend, the cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, witnesses an excellent hold on its first Monday as it drops just around 50% from Sunday. It grossed an estimated 23 crores for all languages, pushing total domestic gross collection to over 150 crores. ## In Tamil Nadu, "PS-1" is going berserk. After grossing a record-breaking 78.9 crores in the opening weekend, the movie scored an estimated 17 crores on Monday, taking the total gross collection to over 95 crores in the state. It will break into 100 crores by tomorrow and going by the latest trend, "PS-1" might become the first film ever to reach 200 crores in TN. ## Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, the "PS-1" original Tamil version has crossed 100 crores net, including an estimated 16 crores on Monday. The Hindi version too is proving a succesful venture approx. 10 crores net in 4 days. The Telugu and Kannada version have also crossed 15 crores net mark. ## "PS-1" is Mani Ratnam's biggest-grosser ever, in fact, it is his first 100 crores worldwide grosser which it acheived in less than two days. Box Office: 'PS-1' And 'Kantara' First Sunday Early Estimates

Chennai, October 2 - Mani Ratnam's blockbuster title Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 is on a rampage mode at the domestic box office and has a bigger third day than the opening day collection. ## The movie, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, registered excellent occupancy throughout the first weekend as it surpassed 200 crores at the worldwide box office in just 3 days. It scored an estimated 43-45 crores gross on its first Sunday, pushing the total domestic box office to approx. 125 crores. ## The epic period action drama film has created an all-time record in Tamil Nadu for the opening weekend. With an estimated 27 crores gross on its third day, the movie's total gross collection in the state has reached approx. 78 crores which is the highest ever first weekend total in the state. ## The dubbed Hindi version of the film continues to see an upward trend and scored an estimated 3.50 crores net on Sunday. The total Hindi collection has reached approx. 8.50 crores net (10 crores gross). The advance booking for Monday is also good, confirming the film's blockbuster status. ## On the other hand, the Kannada film industry has another blockbuster in its hands in 2022 in the form of Rishab Shetty's Kantara. The movie is building up on strong word of mouth and looking unstoppable at the Kannada box office. ## Written and directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Hombale Films, "Kantara" scored a jump of over 70% on the second day, and witnessed another jump of approx. 25% on Sunday for an estimated 8.50 crores net. Chennai, October 1 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 scores another big day at the domestic box office, after taking the biggest opening for a Tamil title in 2022. It grossed a bombastic Rs. 83.60 crores worldwide, including Rs. 42.80 crores, and continues its dominance on the second day. ## The movie witnesses a slight drop of approx. 10% (expected) for an estimated Rs. 38-40 crores gross on its first Saturday (second day). In Tamil Nadu, the movie grossed an estimated Rs. 23 crores, dropping approx. 14% from the opening day. Box Office: 'PS-1' Becomes Biggest Tamil Opener Worldwide In 2022

Chennai, October 1 - The cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan has brought up the charm to the box office. ## Directed by maverick Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 records the biggest opening for a Tamil movie at the worldwide box office. The movie grossed ₹ 42.8 crores at the domestic box office, including ₹ 26.95 crores in Tamil Nadu alone for all languages. It is the third biggest in TN in 2022 after "Beast" and "Valimai". ## "PS-1" has equally been strong at the overseas box office on the first day. The overseas collection of the film came way above the projection with approx. ₹ 40.80 crores gross. The total opening day worldwide gross collection of the film is ₹ 83.60 crores, which is the highest for a Tamil film in 2022. Box Office: 'PS-1' And 'Kantara' Opening Day Early Estimates

Chennai, September 30 - Maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam's dream project, Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 has taken a bombastic start at the domestic box office. ## The epic period action drama film, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name, is touted to be the biggest film in Tamil cinema and has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The movie started on a fantastic note in the morning and it kept improving as the day progressed despite the mixed to positive reviews from critics.## "PS-1" was expected to take a big opening and it has managed to live up to those expectations as early estimates suggest 45-48 crores gross on an opening day for all languages. In Tamil Nadu, the movie scored an estimated 27 crores gross, which is the third highest in 2022 after Thalapathy Vijay's "Beast" and Ajith Kumar's "Valimai". The final number could be higher or lower, which remains to see.## On the other hand, the Kannada movie Kantara, fronted by Rishab Shetty, has taken a very good start at the box office. Produced by Hombale Films, "Kantara" has scored an estimated 4 crores gross on the first day despite the limited number of shows due to other releases. ## "Kantara" has been the best movie of the day along with "Vikram Vedha" as far as the critical acclaim is concerned. Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, "Kantara" started on a decent note but showed an incredible jump as the day progressed and as a result, the evening and night shows are going houseful. 'PS-1' Becomes The Second Tamil Movie To Cross $1M In The USA For Premiere

Los Angeles, September 30 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has crossed $1 million in the USA for premiere shows. It has become the second Tamil movie of all time to achieve this milestone after Rajinikanth's Kabali, which grossed $2 million. ## Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan, the film's reported gross collection in the USA for premieres is $1.02 million from 416 locations. The movie witnessed a significant jump in advance sales in the last 48 hours to breach the $1 million mark. The premiere numbers are likely to be finished at over $1.10 million. ## Sarigama Cinemas is the USA distributing partner of the film and it is reported that the studio has allocated Premium Large Format screens like IMAX, XD, RPX, etc. for the entire first week in the USA for "PS-1". The advance booking for the first full day is also good. ## Meanwhile, the movie is getting mixed to positive response from critics and the general audience alike in India. It is expected to score big numbers for the first day, both at the domestic and overseas box office.
