Chennai, January 12 - The makers of Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan have approached the Supreme Court after the film's release was stalled due to a delay in obtaining its censor certificate. The political actioner, widely touted as the actor's swan song before his full-time political entry, has been caught in a legal tussle after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) withheld certification following objections that led to a revising committee review. As a result, Jana Nayagan, which was expected to hit screens during the lucrative Pongal window on January 9, now faces an indefinite delay. The situation has caused disappointment among fans, given the emotional significance of the film as Vijay's final cinematic outing, and has also sparked wider debate around certification delays and their impact on big-ticket releases. Mumbai, January 12 - The romantic horror comedy The Raja Saab is heading towards a rare failure for Pan India superstar Prabhas at the Hindi box office after the film dropped further on day 3. There seems to be no way for the movie to rebound, given the mixed to negative word of mouth and strong competition from the holdovers. The Raja Saab had an underwhelming opening with approximately 6 crore net. This was only the second film of Prabhas to score below 10 crore net opening day in Hindi since the Covid pandemic. The movie needed big growth on Saturday and Sunday to cover the lost ground, but things got even worse as it dropped further. The first Pan India biggie of the year scored around 5 crore net on Saturday, followed by around 4.65 crores on Sunday, for the cumulative opening weekend of 15.75 crores net, which is disappointing for a movie featuring Prabhas. Ideally, it should have scored at least 30+ crores net opening weekend, but all it could manage was only half of it, due to poor planning and word of mouth. After the underwhelming opening day of 6 crore net, the movie needed a big jump to cover the lost ground, but instead, it went down to collect around 5 crore net. The total collection of the film is around 11 crores net (13+ crores gross) after 2 days. It would have been a good collection for most of the South Indian actors, but not for Prabhas, who has proved his mettle at the Hindi box office in the past with multiple big grossers since Baahubali days. The Sankranthi holiday period might help the movie to bring in some numbers, but considering the weak trend, it is going to be hard for the film to sustain the collection. Prabhas has consistently delivered 100 crores grossers in Hindi, but The Raja Saab is unlikely to get there unless some miracle happens. Meanwhile, the Maruthi directorial also had a big drop at the worldwide box office on the second day. After opening to 100+ crores gross, the film plummeted by 65% to score around 35 crores gross worldwide, pushing total worldwide cume to 135 crores. Mumbai, January 10 - Superstar Prabhas-fronted The Raja Saab has underperformed at the Hindi box office, staying well below the double-digit mark. This makes it the first film of the actor since Radhe Shyam (2022), and only the second since Baahubali (2015), to not have a double-digit start in the dubbed version. Directed by Maruthi, the romantic horror comedy scored approximately 6 crore net on its first day in Hindi, beating Radhe Shyam's 4.80 crores net start. The opening of The Raja Saab is very much in line with the trade projections, but on the face value, it is an underwhelming start given the way Prabhas' films have performed in the past. Prabhas is easily the most popular South Indian actor when it comes to the Hindi market, as his films have consistently performed well since Baahubali. However, the continued release delay and the lack of promotion eventually came to bite the film's box office prospects, even though it opened better than most of the dubbed South Indian films.
