The sequel to 2016's buddy cop comedy, Zootopia, zoomed past the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office on Friday after just 17 days in release. The much-anticipated sequel, Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, starring God of Masses Nandamuri Balakrishna, has taken the box office by storm. Released yesterday (December 12) after a brief shift in schedule, the Boyapati Srinu directorial has registered excellent numbers on its opening day, largely driven by mass hysteria in the Telugu states. Following the massive success of the 2021 blockbuster Akhanda, expectations were sky-high for this sequel.Early estimates indicate that the film has lived up to the hype, posting a solid India Net Total of ₹30 Crore (including premieres), with the gross collection standing at ₹35.75 Crore. Akhanda 2 opened strongly with ₹8 Cr on Day 0 (Thursday premieres), earned entirely from the Telugu version, with 2,26,123 footfalls. The film continued its momentum on Day 1 (Friday), collecting ₹22 Cr in rough estimates. The language-wise split shows Telugu contributing ₹21.5 Cr, followed by Tamil at ₹0.35 Cr, Hindi at ₹0.1 Cr, Kannada at ₹0.04 Cr, and Malayalam at ₹0.01 Cr. As expected, the film is dominating in its home territory. The Telugu version alone has contributed ₹ 29.5 Cr to the total net collection.
