Warner Bros. Pictures 'Joker 2' Scores A Rare Unwanted Record

Mumbai, October 5 - Warner Bros. Pictures' musical psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux/Joker 2 has scored a rare unwanted record. The movie is a sequel to a billion-dollar grosser, so there were high expectations from Joker 2.## However, unlike the high expectations, Joker 2 is turning out to be a nightmare for the studio and the talent involved, heading towards an all-time disaster at the box office. The chances of a box office rebound are also unlikely due to terrible audience reception. ## Joker 2 has become the first comic book movie to receive 'D' CinemaScore. It is the second-worst CinemaScore rating, just above the 'F' rating. It is also only the second movie post the COVID-19 pandemic to score 'D' CinemaScore, after fantasy horror The Exorcism. ## As far as the box office is concerned, the sequel minted $7 million in its Thursday preview and is heading towards a disaster of around $40 million opening weekend at the domestic (North America) box office, which is less than half of the first movie. ## Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker 2 stars Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as the titular character, with Lady Gaga joining as his love interest Harley Quinn. Los Angeles, September 28 - Tom Hardy-led superhero movie Venom: The Last Dance is gearing up for the release on October 25 as the last film of the Venom franchise. The movie is directed by Kelly Marcel and is a part of Sony's Spider-Man universe. ## With under a month to go before the release, Venom: The Last Dance is tracking to be the biggest opener in the franchise. According to the projection by Box Office Pro, Venom 3 is headed towards taking the opening of $80 million - $120 million at the domestic opening weekend. ## The first two films of this anti-hero franchise opened with approximately $10 million apart - $80.20 million for 2018's Venom and $90 million for 2021's Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Venom 3, as per the early projections, is in the position to take the biggest start of the franchise and it can do it with a fair margin. ## Both, Venom and Venom - Let There Be Carnage finished their domestic run with an almost identical total of $213.51 million and $213.55 million, respectively. Here, Box Office Pro has projected a $250 million - $300 million range lifetime domestic gross collection. ## It is worth noting that Venom 2 was released during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic so there was a possibility it could have done much better in a normal scenario. Venom 3 is expected to get the benefit of being the final film of the franchise which has been incredibly popular among the superhero movie fans. ## Venom 3 is the fifth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Mumbai, September 26 - Tom Hardy is the set for the Last Dance with his blockbuster anti-hero franchise Venom. The third and final film, titled Venom: The Last Dance is gearing up for the big screen debut on October 25 this year. ## As the movie is gearing up for release, the official runtime for the same has reportedly been revealed. According to the latest reports, the movie is set to be a nearly 2 hours long flick with a final runtime of around 1 hour and 50 minutes (110 minutes). ## Recently, two different theatre chains listed conflicting runtimes for Sony Pictures' upcoming blockbuster. As per The Direct, Odeon listed the threequel on its website with a 140-minute runtime (2 hours, 20 minutes) while Cineworld listed it with a runtime of 120 minutes (2 hours). ## However, it is believed that the final runtime of Venom 3 will be changed as the latest reports suggest. Mumbai, September 20 - 20th Century Studios' sci-fi horror thriller Alien: Romulus has scripted a box office history to become the highest-grossing horror movie of all time in IMAX. ## Directed by Fede Álvarez, the 7th movie in the Alien franchise has so far grossed over $40 million in IMAX format since its debut in mid-August 2024, making it the biggest horror grosser in this premium format.## Alien: Romulus is going strong and recently crossed $300 million at the worldwide box office. The movie has so far grossed approximately $332 million, becoming the highest-grossing horror movie of the year. James Cameron Sets His Next Directorial Other Than 'Avatar' Franchise

Mumbai, September 17 - James Cameron has been busy with the epic sci-fi Avatar franchise since 1997 and is currently directing the third instalment of this blockbuster franchise which is scheduled to hit the big screen on December 20, 2025. ## While there are, at least, two more Avatar films after Avatar 3, Cameron has set his next directorial project other than Avatar. According to Variety, the maverick filmmaker has purchased the rights to Charles Pellegrino's book "Ghosts of Hiroshima", which will be published by Blackstone Publishing in August 2025.## Cameron will combine and adapt Ghosts and Pellegrino's 2015 book Last Train From Hiroshima into a single film, which he will shoot when Avatar production allows. ## The filmmaker's new film will be titled, Last Train from Hiroshima which will tell the true story of a Japanese man during World War II who survived two atomic bombings: after living through the explosion in Hiroshima, he took a train to Nagasaki, enduring another blast there. ## It will be Cameron's first non-Avatar movie in more than 2 and a half decades as a director since he directed Titanic in 1997. Before Titanic, which is the 4th highest-grossing film of all time, Cameron directed six movies after making his directorial debut in 1982 with Piranha II: The Spawning. ## Cameron has been a box office monster as his last three directed films went on to gross over $2 billion each globally and are currently among the 4 highest-grossing movies of all time with Avatar being the biggest grosser ($2.92 billion). Warner Bros. 'Joker 2' Box Office Projection Revealed

Los Angeles, September 12 - Warner Bros. Pictures' sequel to the 2019 psychological thriller Joker is hitting theatres this October and it seems the hype is fading away after the recent screening where the movie received average reviews. ## As for the box office, the Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga-led Joker: Folie à Deux is tracking to open less than its predecessor at the domestic box office. According to Deadline, the blockbuster sequel is projected to open with $70 million - $80 million in its domestic (North America) opening weekend. ## If Joker 2 opens to the projected lines, it would be $26 million less than Joker which scored $96.2 million in the domestic weekend, as per Box Office Mojo. A couple of weeks ago, the movie was projected to open with $100+ million, which is now looking difficult, per the latest projection. ## Joker 2 currently has a 62% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, which, interestingly, is similar to the original movie after its Venice and TIFF premiere. So there is a possibility the sequel might follow the same path at the box office as well, but as of now, it looks a far cry. ## Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker was a monster hit for Warner Bros. with $1.08 billion at the worldwide box office, including $335.5 million domestically. Los Angeles, September 10 - Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' much-anticipated Spider-Man 4 is officially in development and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has been handed over duty to direct it, per The Hollywood Reporter.## Amid the speculation of who would take up the role to direct one of the biggest Hollywood films in the making, Cretton is set to lend the job. The filmmaker will bring fresh blood to this iteration of Spider-Man. Tom Holland will return to reprise his role as the web-slinger in the upcoming film. ## Destin Daniel Cretton will be the fourth director to direct a Spider-Man movie. Earlier, Jon Watts directed the previous three Holland-starring movies, while Marc Webb helmed the two Amazing Spider-Man movies that starred Andrew Garfield. Mumbai, August 29 - Universal Pictures has officially revealed the title and the first of the new Jurassic World film, led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. It is the seventh film in the 31-year-old science fiction action franchise. ## On Thursday (August 29), Universal Pictures announced on social media the new Jurrasic World movie has been titled Jurassic World Rebirth and it will debut in theatres on 2 July 2025. Gareth Edwards ("Rogue One: A Star Wars Story") is directing the film. ## The official synopsis of the movie states, "The film will be set five years following the events of Jurassic World Dominion (2022) when "the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Pictures' Joker. ## Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles, Deadpool & Wolverine has earned $1.08+ billion globally so far, which takes it past Joker which had grossed $1.07 billion in its lifetime run. These two are the only R-rated movies to top $1 billion worldwide.## As reported earlier, Deadpool 3 is the first Disney-released Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie since Avengers: Endgame in 2019 to top $1 billion globally, and, it is also the first R-rated movie released by Disney. Mumbai, August 14 - Disney's animated blockbuster Frozen III will make its big screen debut in November 2027. ## Walt Disney Animation's chief creative officer Jennifer Lee announced on Wednesday at D23 that the third installment of the musical fantasy franchise will be released on November 24, 2027, according to the report by The Hollywood Reporter.## Frozen 3 was originally scheduled for a 2026 release but the production is getting delayed due to various reasons which made Disney push the film to the Thanksgiving weekend in 2027. Marvel Studios Scrapped Plans For 'Eternals 2'

Mumbai, August 14 - Marvel Studios has reportedly scrapped plans to develop Eternals 2 after the first movie didn't do well at the box office. The movie was directed by Chloé Zhao and introduced new superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.## While the ending (hailed as one of the best in the MCU) of Eternals suggested the character would return in the sequel, Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently said that there are no immediate plans to make Eternals 2 and now, as per Variety, the studio has dropped plans to develop it.## The news of scrapping Eternals 2 comes from Variety reporting on actor Kit Harington discussing his MCU role. Mumbai, August 10 - Maverick filmmaker James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar 3 has unveiled its official title on Friday during the D23 expo. The first two movies in the franchise have already been etched in the history books with monstrous box office performances.## During the D23 event, James Cameron along with stars Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington revealed that the third Avatar blockbuster will be titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, setting the stage for the things unfold in Pandora. ## "You'll see a lot more pandora that you never saw before. It's an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it's also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. Mumbai, August 5 - Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-fronted superhero comedy Deadpool and Wolverine has surpassed $800 million at the worldwide box office, and with this, it has become the highest-grossing film in the Deadpool franchise, beating Deadpool 2. ## Directed by Shawn Levy, the 34th Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) tentpole has grossed $824 million (6905 crores) through the second weekend, surpassing the entire theatrical runs of 2016's Deadpool ($783 million) and 2018s Deadpool 2 ($786 million) as the top grosser in the franchise.## Domestically (North America), Deadpool 3 has grossed $395.6 million (3315 crores) in just 10 days. Mumbai, August 1 - Disney's Pixar blockbuster Inside Out 2 has cracked the all-time top 10 highest-grossing movies at the worldwide box office, after outgrossing Marvel Studios/Disney's The Avengers through 8th Wednesday. ## The coming-of-age film animated tentpole has topped $1.524 billion (12765 crores) after the 8th Wednesday and has crossed The Avengers's $1.523 billion to become the 10th highest-grossing film ever at the global box office.## Directed by Kelsey Mann in his feature directorial debut, Inside Out 2 has grossed $618.7 million (5180 crores) in North America while the overseas collection is $905.3 million (7585 crores). It is already the highest-grossing animated movie worldwide. ## Mexico is the biggest international market for IO2 with $100.5 million, followed by Brazil where it has become the highest-grossing movie ever with $77.3 million.
