Chennai, March 1 - The blockbuster box office clash on Pongal 2023, Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu have completed 50 days in theaters, a sort of achievement in the post covid-19 pandemic era. ## Released on January 11 in multiple languages, both films have turned into successful ventures for the makers, with "Varisu" emerging as a Pongal winner with a difference of close to 100 crores gross globally. Both movies bring in approx. 500 crores box office collection globally. ## Directed by Vamsi Paidipally, "Varisu" has grossed approx. 299 crores worldwide in 50 days. Domestically, the family action entertainer has generated approx. 210 crores in all languages, including approx. 175 crores in the original Tamil version. ## At the Tamil Nadu box office, the movie grossed approx. 143 crores so far, followed by approx. 26 crores in Telugu states. "Varisu" also has done pretty well overseas, grossing approx. 89 crores. It is the second highest-grossing film of Thalapathy Vijay after "Bigil" globally and turned into a superhit. ## Meanwhile, Ajith Kumar-fronted heist action thriller "Thunivu" started its journey on a strong note, matching the numbers of "Varisu" in the first few days but legged behind the letter in longevity. However, the movie has made the most of the opportunity it got in the form of the Pongal holidays. ## The H. Chennai, January 22 - The year 2023 has opened with a bang for the Indian film industry, led by South Indian films as the gamble to release four big films around the same time on this Pongal/Sankranthi festival has paid off. ## Pongal/Sankranthi has always been a lucrative festival for South Indian films at the box office, and this year was no different with four biggies released and got succeeded. Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar released their biggies "Varisu" and "Thunivu", respectively. On the other hand, Chiranjeevi and Nandamuri Balakrishna brought their films "Waltair Veerarya" and "Veera Simha Reddy". ## All four aforementioned films were having over 400 crores on their shoulders as far as the theatrical share collection is concerned. The combined business of all four films has already crossed the break-even mark as the overall gross collection of them has rocked 700 crores at the global box office. Thalapathy Vijay's "Varisu" is leading over the other three films though it is yet to achieve its individual break-even target. ## Have a look at the total collection details of all four films worldwide (as of January 21) - ## Varisu - The family action drama film has grossed approx. 244 crores worldwide, including 166 crores domestically so far in just 11 days and it will soon turn into a profitable venture for the investors despite the high stake. The movie was valued at around 140 crores and has already recovered approx. 128 crores, needing another 10-12 crores for the break-even. It has a direct clash with "Thunivu", and despite that, the movie has managed to cross the 100 crores mark in Tamil Nadu state. ## Waltair Veerayya - The action drama film has become the first clean hit for Megastar Chiranjeevi since "Khaidi No. 150" (2017). It has so far grossed approx. 178 crores worldwide, including approx. 153 crores in India in just 9 days. It was valued at approx. 89 crores and has already managed to make approx. 17 crores profit. It will soon enter a 200 crores club worldwide. ## Thunivu - Another film that has managed to achieve the break-even target within two weeks. In just 11 days since its release, the heist action thriller film has grossed approx. 168 crores, including approx. 118 crores domestically. It was valued at around 85 crores and it has surpassed this mark and turned into a profitable venture. ## Veera Simha Reddy - The Nandamuri Balakrishna's action drama gets saved by the Sankranthi holidays. It will eventually achieve the break-even target but is unlikely to big a big profitable film for the involved parties. Despite all this, it has become the highest-grossing film for NBK. Chennai, January 15 - Thalapathy Vijay's family action drama Varisu is emerging as a favorite Tamil film this Pongal festival, not just in the original Tamil language but also in Telugu and Hindi languages. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, "Varisu" grossed approx. 78 crores domestically in the first 4 days. The movie grossed an estimated 21+ crores on Sunday, including an estimated 13+ crores in the Tamil language, pushing the total domestic gross collection to around 100 crores in the 5-day opening weekend. ## The Telugu version of the film, "Varasudu" did well on the opening day with approx. 5.40 crores and scored another 5.50+ crores gross on its second day for approx. 11 crores gross in two days. The Hindi version is also surprisingly doing well and has grossed approx. 4+ crores gross in three days.## Meanwhile, another Pongal release, Ajith Kumar's Thunivu is too doing well by holding well after the big opening day. Chennai, January 14 - Thalapathy Vijay's family action drama film Varisu sees a big Saturday at the box office, added by the Telugu version "Varasudu" which released today. ## Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, "Varisu" scored an estimated 19+ crores gross on its 4th day/first Saturday. The Telugu version grossed an estimated approx. 4.50+ crores on the first day. "Varasudu" had a low advance booking for the opening day but surprised one and all with excellent spot booking.## The total domestic gross collection of "Varisu" now stands around 76 crores, including the Telugu version, after 4 days. The movie has crossed 50 crores gross in the home state, Tamil Nadu with today's collection, and worldwide it crossed 100 crores gross, becoming the first Indian film of 2023 to do so. ## Ajith Kumar's "Thunivu", which had a direct clash with "Varisu" is legging behind the Vijay-starrer despite putting up a good collection so far. After grossing approx. 52 crores in the first three days, "Thunivu" scored an estimated 13+ crores on its 4th day, pushing total domestic collection to approx. 65 crores in 4 days. ## Both "Varisu" and "Thunivu" are almost having neck-to-neck numbers in Tamil Nadu and the situation remains more or less the same after today's collection with around 50 crores each. ## Stay tuned...

Chennai, January 13 - The two Pongal releases, Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu and Ajith Kumar's Thunivu are having neck-to-neck competition at the box office with the former having a little advantage at the domestic box office after two days. ## Both films had a good hold on their second day despite dropping in the range of 50% each. The two days domestic gross collection for Thalapathy Vijay-starrer is approx. 45 crores while Ajith-fronted has grossed 42.50 crores.## "Varisu" witnessed another good hold on its 3rd day and scored an estimated 12 crores gross, dropping approx. 10%. The total domestic collection for the movie now stands at approx. 57 crores after 3 days with 2 big weekend days ahead of it. The movie is eyeing 85+ crores gross in the 5-day opening weekend. ## "Thunivu", on the other hand, sees a bigger drop of around 23% than "Varisu" on its 3rd day/first Friday for an estimated 10 crores gross. The total domestic gross collection for the movie reaches approx. 52 crores in 3 days. ## The direct clash between "Varisu" and "Thunivu" has clearly dented both's box office chances as none of them are able to utilize their full potential. It is also not yet clear which film will end with a higher lifetime collection, however, "Varisu" is having a good run overseas and might become the top grosser between the two. ## Stay tuned...
