China Box Office: Godzilla vs. Kong Roars With Nearly $50 Million On First Two Days
While Godzilla vs. Kong is still a couple of days away from debuting in the USA, the movie takes a monstrous start in mainland Chinese cinemas on Friday (March 26). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Adam Wingard directorial debuted with a huge $21.5 million gross on Friday.
The sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the new film is slightly ahead of its predecessor, which earned $20.9 million on its first day in 2019, before finishing the weekend with $70.6 million, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
As per early estimates, Godzilla vs. Kong earned around $28 million on its second day and eyeing around $80 million on its first weekend in mainland China. Local word of mouth for this monster film is currently looking strong, with the film scoring 9/10 on ticketing apps Maoyan and Taopiaopiao, and 7.1 on reviews site Douban — solid numbers for a Hollywood tentpole.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood biggie released in India on March 24, two days earlier than its originally scheduled date. The Warner Bros' movie did surprisingly well at the Indian Box Office and earned approximately INR 22.60 crore net on its first 4 days. It is expected to continue to do well with no such tough competition at the moment in India.
