F9, which is due to release in the US on June 25, jets off to a massive $162.4 million in eight foreign markets in the opening weekend.
The opening weekend collection of F9 is largely contributed from China, where it collected a huge sum of $135.5 million in the first three days after taking a record
opening of pandemic era. The latest installment in the Fast & Furious installment also becomes the first Hollywood movie since Avengers: Endgame to open with $100 million in this part of the world.
Directed by Justin Lin, F9 debuted in most of the international markets including South Korea, Russia, Hong Kong, Russia on May 19, where the moviegoing has rebounded from the COVID-19 crisis. The ticket sales were also as strong as pre-pandemic times in these markets.
The collection of F9 in the first weekend in China is almost double from Warner Bros. and Legendary's Godzilla vs. Kong, which is now in its fifth weekend. The Monster film opened with approx $70 million in China in the opening weekend. Currently, the movie nearing $200 million in China.
A sequel to The Fate of the Furious (2017), F9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and Charlize Theron.
