The fact that the latest installment in the Fast & Furious franchise dominating the box office domestically and internationally.
After opening up with a huge $70 million in the first weekend, the Justin Lin directorial becomes the only third Hollywood movie to cross the $100 million marks, that too in a record time since the pandemic began.
The film's first week gross total was approx $93 million, and on Friday (July 2), F9 earned approx $7.5 million, making the film go past the $100 million milestones in just 8 days. The movie is on track to earn $30M in the extended 4th of July holiday weekend. F9 crushed, A Quiet Place Part II's previous pandemic record of earning $100M domestically in fifteen days.
A Quiet Place 2 was the first to reach the $100 million mark in North America. Godzilla vs. Kong recently joined the list as it finally passed the $100M milestone three months after it was released.
F9, which was already opened in the international market including China before debuting in the domestic market, will surpass Godzilla vs. Kong's worldwide total of $444M to become the highest-grossing Hollywood-made movie in the COVID-19 era.
Even though F9's new record could be short-lived as Marvel Studios' Black Widow is releasing on July 9, it is another sign that the movie theater industry is finally rebounding. Black Widow, despite simultaneously releasing on Disney+ with premier access, has been
projected to score higher than F9 in the opening weekend at the domestic box office.
