The Thursday preview collection of The Suicide Squad records a pandemic-era best preview number for an R-rated film, despite the fact that the movie is also available on the streaming platform HBO Max and 4th covid-19 wave in the US because of the Delta variant of the virus.
The 10th film in the DC Extended Universe, The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn, is the standalone sequel about DC's team of antiheroes featuring a cast led by Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi.
Warner Bros. is predicting only a $30 million domestic collection for the film, compared to $80 million a month ago for Disney and Marvel's Black Widow (the latter started off with a pandemic-era best $13.2 million on Thursday night its opening weekend).
The story of The Suicide Squad follows a group of convicts to demolish a Nazi-era laboratory. Along the way, they encounter a giant alien named Starro.
