'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Is Top Contender To Win Oscars First Fan-Favorite Award

Mumbai, March 5 - Tom Holland-fronted superhero movie, "Spider-Man No Way Home" may have missed the Best Picture nominations, but it still might end up winning big at the 94th Academy Awards, slated to be held on March 27.
This year, the Academy, in an attempt to honour as many movies as possible, has started a new initiative named "Oscars Fan Favorite. A couple of days ago, the Academy announced had announced the leaderboard of the fan-favorite poll, which "Spider-Man: No Way Home", along with 9 other movies.
Now, according to surveys (via variety), the Marvel/Sony picture is clearly leading the fan-favorite poll and is the top contender to bag the trophy. A recent Morning Consult survey suggested that 26% of U.S. adults said "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was their favorite film of 2021.
Following "Spider-Man: No Way Home", Americans' favorite films of 2021 were "Encanto" (14%), "Dune" (8%), "Don't Look Up" (6%), and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" (4%). Interestingly, Warner Bros. "Dune", and Netflix's "Don't Look Up" will also be competing with 8 other movies in the main Best Picture category at this year's Oscars.
Moving back to "No Way Home", it was one of the most anticipated films to get a nomination for the Best Picture, but it failed to make the cut. Many people including Hollywood celebrities expressed disappointment for not nominating the film for the Best Picture as it was the movie that truly proved to be a box office savor.
The Jon Watts-directed is the highest-grossing movie during the covid-19 pandemic and the 6th highest of all time at the worldwide box office with $1.85 billion. It was, however, got nominated in the Best Visual Effects category at the Oscars 2022.
