Dulquer Salmaan's 'Kurup' Grossed Double Then The Lucrative OTT Price To Emerge A Box Office Blockbuster

Kochi, November 25 - Dulquer Salmaan's latest Malayalam film "Kurup" is having a dream box office run. Despite getting mixed reviews from the critics, the crime thriller has been able to touch the heart of the audience, which is clearly visible as it crossed Rs. 75 crores at the worldwide box office, earning the status of one of the biggest Malayalam grossing films.
Directed by Srinath Rajendran, "Kurup" was one of the films that didn't succumb to lucrative OTT price. Due to the second covid-19 wave, and the closure of theaters in Kerala, there were multiple reports claiming that the big-budget film was sold to a leading OTT platform for a hefty sum. While the official amount wasn't revealed, it was said to be Rs. 40 crores.
Being one of the most-awaited films, and the fact that it was the first big Malayalam release post the second wave, the makers were keen to release the film only in theaters, and need not say that the brave decision paid off big time. It has nearly doubled what it was offered why the OTT platform.
Based on the life of India's most wanted fugitive Sukumara Kurup who is absconding since 1984, "Kurup" reportedly emerged as the third highest-grossing Malayalam film at the worldwide box office of all time. The first two positions of the Top 3 highest-grossing Malayalam films are held by the Mohanlal starring blockbusters, Lucifer and Pulimurugan.
Dulquer Salmaan is open to doing films in every industry irrespective of language. He has successfully established himself as the most bankable young actor of contemporary Malayalam cinema, with the success of Kurup. His upcoming film "Salute", which is a cop-action thriller film, is also a Malayalam film. Apart from this, he has Tamil film "Hey Sinamika", "Yuddham Tho Rasina Prema Katha" in Telugu, and multistarrer "Chup: Revenge Of The Artist" in Hindi.
Meanwhile, "Kurup" is the first Indian film to have non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles. It is produced by Wayfarer Films and M Star Entertainments. Apart from Salmaan, the movie also stars Indrajith Sukumaran, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shine Tom Chacko, Sunny Wayne, Bharath Srinivasan, Shivajith, Surabhi Lakshmi, Vijayaraghavan, and Tovino Thomas in the supporting roles.
