After Box Office, Akshay Kumar's 'Kesari 2' Emerges A Success On OTT

Mumbai, June 19 - Hailed as one of the best films of the year, superstar Akshay Kumar's historical biographical drama Kesari: Chapter 2 has found double success after landing on the digital platform following the theatrical release.

Originally released on April 18, the Karan Singh Tyagi's directorial did well at the box office, grossing around 150 crores worldwide. It was made available on JioHotstar on June 13, following an 8-week theatrical run, and is doing well on the streamer.



It was revealed that the movie garnered 5.7 million views in its first two days, making it one of the most-watched Indian titles of the year during its first week of release. It has been trending at the number 1 spot since the day it debuted on the platform.

Kesari 2 was reportedly sold to Hotstar for a substantial sum of around 100 crores, which is among the highest for this kind of film. It has received a unanimous positive reception from the OTT audience, and this is expected to attract huge viewership in the coming days.

Produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, the Kesari 2 plot is based on the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, centred around C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who fought against the British Empire, to reveal the truth behind the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
