'The Battle At Lake Changjin' Sequel Tops China's Lunar New Year Weekend 2022 At The Box Office

Mumbai, February 7 - The sequel to China's highest-grossing film of all time, "The Battle At Lake Changjin", has topped China's highly lucrative Lunar New Year weekend 2022, which kicked off last Tuesday (February 6), at the box office.## With $398 million across 6-days, "The Battle At Lake Changjin 2" contributed 42% of the total estimated RMB 6B ($943M) across the six-day period of Lunar New Year. That's just slightly above 2019 and is the second-biggest ever for the holiday, but is not ahead of 2021 which is still tops in the books at RMB 7.8B ($1.2B). ## The lower than expected box office numbers on China's this year's Lunar New Year is because there are around 20% of cinemas are closed throughout the market due to the covid-19 outbreak, thanks to the Omicron variant, plus, the Winter Olympics is also playing a part in diverting the attention of Chinese audiences. ## "The Battle At Lake Changjin II" has a strong 9.6 social score on Maoyan. It is the sequel to the highest-grossing local title of all time in China, which was released just in September last year, and went on to gross $913 million.## The sequel, which is also directed by the original directors Chen Kaige, Tsui Hark, and Dante Lam, had taken a strong start at the box office, grossing over $105 million on the first day at the box office. The Chinese State media has forecast that the film may finish over $1 billion at the end of its box office run, which will make it the biggest Chinese movie ever. ## The film glorifies China's victory over U.S. forces during a key battle in the Korean War (known in China as the "War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea"). The new installment focuses on the Chinese military's mission to take out the Water Gate Bridge, an important path of retreat for American troops.## Stay tuned...

Sanjay Dutt Launches His Production Company In A Bid To Bring The Heroism Culture Back In Bollywood

Mumbai, February 7 - Sanjay Dutt is one of the few actors who truly believe that theatrical experience is the real cinema and the heroism culture, which is slowly diminishing in Bollywood, is the backbone of it. And now, the Bollywood star is putting his efforts to bring back the golden age of heroism to the industry.## Sanjay Dutt, who has acted in several films since his debut with "Rocky" in 1981, has launched his production company, Three Dimension Motion Pictures, in an attempt to bring the heroism culture back in Bollywood. ## Giving the examples of the recent pan-Indian box office success of larger-than-life heroic South Indian films, "Pushpa - The Rise" and SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" films in Hindi, Sanjay Dutt told Variety, "We're trying to get back what we had, what the South Indian films are doing now".## When we entered the film industry, we started off with heroism, heroic roles, mass love, and everything, and I just saw that stopping. And I am trying to revive that. The golden age – it just can't die. Even if you look at Hollywood, it exists there, and in the South. I don't know what happened to Bollywood. But that's what we're trying to get back – those days of heroism", he added.## The first film in Dutt's Three Dimension Motion Pictures is a horror-comedy, "The Virgin Tree", to be directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, and will have a cast of four newcomers. While the other projects are not titled yet, it includes a family drama, some action films with younger actors, and some more action films with a mature man as a hero.## All the films in Three Dimension Motion Pictures are meant to be released in theaters only. "I believe in the big screen – I know it can never die down. I know eventually theaters will open up and there will be some films only made for theaters", Dutt added.## Stay tuned...

Sanjay Dutt On What Makes South Indian Film Industry Better Than Bollywood

Mumbai, February 7 - Bollywood stars Sanjay Dutt joins the actors and filmmakers who are praising the South Indian film industry for keeping the audience excited about the theatrical experience, which Bollywood is continuously failing to provide. ## For the last few years, South Indian films have been spreading their wings in the Hindi market and getting the desired results. The thing is that the South Indian industry is superstar-driven which can easily be seen in the box office results while the same is not happening in Bollywood on large scale. ## Sanjay Dutt, meanwhile, blames the involvement of corporate structure in vanishing the heroism in Bollywood while in the South, he feels that the same thing does not exist which has worked for them. "I feel that this whole corporate structure coming and encroaching our space in Bollywood ruined everything", Dutt told Variety. ## "Their business is funding and that's where the business ends. But once you start interfering in the script and in the direction and in the budgets and this and that, then things go haywire, and that's why I think we (Bollywood) lost out on a lot of good stuff during that time". ## "Whereas in the South, this corporate structure does not exist. There are people who, from the production or from the producer, to the director, to everybody involved in the team… they're passionate about making good films and that is the thing which has worked for them. And that has gone against us because that passion for making movies or that passion of making something great and working and performing is gone", he added.## Sanjay Dutt cited the recent pan-Indian box office success of South Indian film "Pushpa - The Rise" and the films of "Baahubali" filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli as examples of the vanished larger-than-life heroism in Bollywood.## On the work front, Sanjay Dutt has multiple big-ticket films ready for release. He plays the main antagonist in the upcoming Pan-India biggie, "KGF: Chapter 2", starring Yash as the protagonist. Scheduled to release on April 14, "KGF 2" is sure going to be a mega-hit in Hindi. Dutt also has Akshay Kumar-fronted historical drama "Prithviraj", and period action drama "Shamshera" with Ranbir Kapoor.## Stay tuned...

'The Batman' Early Box Office Projections Eyeing Biggest Opening Ever For A Batman Movie

Los Angeles, February 5 - After "Spider-Man: No Way Home", Hollywood is gearing up for the next blockbuster in the form of "The Batman", which is just a month away from its debut on March 4. The DC superhero movie is one of the most anticipated films and the hype around it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. ## Starring Robert Pattinson as a new version of the Caped Crusader, "The Batman" is carrying a lot of expectations as far as the box office is concerned. And the early box office projections for "The Batman" is also suggesting it could take the biggest opening for a Batman movie ever. ## According to Box Office Pro, the 2022's first bona fide tentpole is currently tracking to earn between $135-$185 million domestically in its opening weekend while its lifetime box office projection currently stands between $340-$540 million domestically. ## If the movie opens to its higher projection of $185 million, it will be the biggest debut for a Batman movie ever at the domestic box office (North America). Only three "Batman" movies have had opening weekends of over $100 million domestically, the highest of which overall is "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice's" $166 million. Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" sits just behind it at $160 million in the opening weekend. ## Directed by Matt Reeves, "The Batman" is on track to become only the second movie (excluding China) to open over $100 million domestically during the covid-19 pandemic. "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was the first to do. If the Warner Bros. movie opens to its lower end of the projection, it would still place it easily in the top-5 all-time for Batman project. ## The film's cast includes Robert Pattinson as Batman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Real, Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.## Stay tuned...

'Pushpa - The Rise' Worldwide Box Office Overtakes 'Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior', According To Producers

Hyderabad, February 5 - The biggest Indian hit of 2021, the Telugu movie "Pushpa - The Rise", starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, has successfully completed 50 days at the box office on February 4. Released on December 17, last year, "Pushpa" has brought the smile back to the exhibition sector and the cinema-loving audiences. ## Directed by Sukumar, "Pushpa - The Rise" was released in multiple languages, marking the first Pan-India film for the Icon Star. By surprising one and all, it registered a gigantic success in Hindi by crossing Rs. 100 crores net collection, a rarity in current circumstances for a dubbed version.## Meanwhile, the makers of "Pushpa" celebrate the movie's successful 50 days at the box office with an official social media post. With this, the makers also revealed that the actioner has grossed over Rs. 365 crores worldwide, which is the biggest for an Indian film during the entire covid-19 pandemic. ## Going by the producers' box office figures of "Pushpa", it has now at least Rs. 4 crores more than Ajay Devgn-fronted "Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior", which had grossed Rs. 361 crores worldwide in January 2020. ## "Pushpa - The Rise" is also the biggest since Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-fronted "War" in October 2019. "War" was released just before the pandemic first emerged in China in late 2019, even though India first registered a covid case in January 2020. So it is safe to say that "Pushpa" is the biggest pandemic Indian hit at the worldwide box office if we consider producers' box office data true.## Produced by Mythri Movie Makers in association with Muttamsetty Media, "Pushpa" is a two-part release and the second part is currently in the pre-production stage. The first part depicts the rise of a coolie in the smuggling syndicate of red sanders, a rare wood that grows only in the Seshachalam Hills of Andhra Pradesh state. ## Stay tuned...
