'800' Controversy: Vijay Sethupathi Withdraws From Muthiah Muralidharan's Biopic

Actor Vijay Sethupathi has hinted that he is withdrawing from the former Sri Lankan cricketer, Muthiah Muralidharan's biopic, "800". Ever since the film has announced, several political parties and Tamil nationalist sympathizers along with many popular personalities from the Tamil film industry have claimed that the movie is an attempt to whitewash a figure who is problematic in Sri Lanka, and thus, they have been asking for a boycott of the film. ## In a statement on Monday, Muralidharan said he had asked Vijay Sethupathi to withdraw from the project to ensure the actor's career is not affected by the association. Muralitharan said that the film was facing hurdles as he had in many aspects of like. But he said that he was confident the hurdles would be overcome. ## Sharing the statement of the cricketer, Sethupathi hinted that he has accepted his proposal of withdrawing from the film. I then thought that the film would highlight the struggle of my parents, the contribution of my coaches and teachers, and everyone who has been part of my journey. My family had its humble beginnings in a tea estate in Sri Lanka. The most affected in the 30-year long civil war in Sri Lanka was the Hill Country Tamils. Our life began in a conflict zone", he said.## "The film '800' talks about how I overcame all these hurdles and managed to succeed in cricket. Is it my fault that I was born a Sri Lankan Tamil? If I was born in India, I would have definitely tried to be part of the Indian team. Since I am part of the Sri Lankan team, I have always been misunderstood. Vijay Sethupathi Will Do Wonders In My Biopic, Says Muttiah Muralitharan

In the last few years, there has been a lot of emphasis on making biopics in the Indian film industries, especially the biopic of sports stars that have been liked by the people. To keep the trend of biopics continue, one of the leading South Indian actors, Vijay Sethupati was roped in to star in the former Sri Lankan cricketer and legend of the game, Muttiah Muralitharan's biopic.## Muralitharan, who is arguably the greatest spinner of all-time, claimed 800 Test wickets and the title of the biopic also resembles the number of wickets he took in the red-ball cricket. The film will be shot in India, Sri Lanka, UK, and Australia. The shoot is slated to start at the beginning of 2021 and is set to release at the end of next year. ## The legendary off-spinner said that Vijay Sethupati is the best-suited actor for this film that he will do wonders. "Once the script was ready, we thought the best fit for this movie is non-other than Vijay Sethupathi", said Muralitharan while speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Live.## "I think he is a very talented actor and he will nail the bowling expressions. I trust Vijay completely as he is one of the greatest actors and I have complete faith that he'll definitely do wonders for the film", Murali added. ## Speaking about Muralitharan, Sethupathi said as per IANS, "It's really nice to listen to his story and spend time with Murali sir. Suriya Donates Rs 1.5 Cr From 'Soorarai Pottru' Revenue To Film Bodies Of South Industry

One of the biggest stars of the South film industry, Saravanan Sivakumar fondly called Suriya has donated a sum of INR 1.50 cr. the film bodies of the South industry. He donated this amount from the revenue generated by his upcoming movie Soorarai Pottru which will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video.## Suriya earlier had announced that he has set aside INR 5 crores from the revenue generated by selling Soorarai Pottru to the Amazon Prime OTT platform for direct release. He had promised to donate the amount to COVID-19 frontline warriors, the general public, and for the benefit of those in the industry.## The superstar handed over a cheque for Rs 80 lakh to Film Employee Federation of South India (FEFSI) President RK Selvamani and Rs 20 lakh to RV Udhaykumar, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Film Directors Association (TANTIS) attached to FEFSI.## Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu received a cheque for Rs 30 lakh, to be handed over to the Special Officer currently in charge of Tamil Nadu Film Producer's Council (TFPC) and actor Nasser has received a cheque for Rs 20 lakh to be handed over to the Special Officer in charge of Nadigar Sangam. ## Talking about the movie Soorarai Pottru, it is an action drama film directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Suriya and Guneet Monga, under their respective banners 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment. ## The film is based on events during the life of Air Deccan founder G. Udhayanidhi Stalin To Star In Tamil Remake Of Article 15

Producer Boney Kapoor has acquired the Tamil remake rights of the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer 2019 superhit movie Article 15. As per the latest update, the Tamil remake of this social crime drama film will be helmed by the director Arunraja Kamaraj. ## The Tamil remake of Article 15 marks the second directorial of lyricist-singer-actor Arunraja Kamaraj. He made his directorial debut in 2018 with sports drama Kanaa. ## Udhayanidhi Stalin who previously worked in movies like Psycho, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, and others will be stepping into the shoes and reprise the lead role played by Ayushmann Khurrana in the original. Ayushmann had won a lot of appreciation for playing the upright police officer, battling caste politics, while solving the case of rape and murder of Dalit girls. ## The Tamil version will be presented by Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP in association with the original producer Zee Studios. The film is inspired by true events and deals with Article 15 of the Constitution of India, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. It was released on 28 June last year. ## The Tamil remake of Article 15 is Boney Kapoor's third Tamil Production after the hugely successful Nerkonda Paarvai (the remake of Hindi movie Pink), starring Ajith in the lead role. He is also producing "Valimai" which also star Ajith in the lead. It was scheduled to be released by the third week of November 2020 coinciding with Diwali.
