Fans Compare AEW Dynamite's Blood & Guts Event To The Classic WarGames Matches Of The 80s & 90s

Jacksonville May 5, 2021: Wrestling fans are comparing AEW Dynamite's Blood & Guts event to the classic WarGames matches of the 80s and 90s. ## Ever since the concept was first announced back in early 2020 fans have immediately related it to the classic WCW WarGames matches of the 80s and 90s. In many ways they are the same — two teams, two rings surrounded by one cage, the match can only end by submission or knockout once every competitor has officially entered. ## It was called a "Blood and Guts match" since the WarGames trademark is owned by WWE. The rules for the Blood and Guts match were based on the classic WarGames format from Jim Crockett Promotions, and not the modern WWE format. ## The well-known format variations between the classic Crockett rules and the modern WWE rules are an imprisoned cage with a roof which was excavated in modern versions and the match can only be won with a submission or surrender. ## Is it me, or does this feel more...frantic? More chaotic than what NXT has done with War Games. It’s basically the same rules but this has been so much more intense so early compared to those matches?
