UFC 262: Oliveira Vs. Chandler is scheduled to take place on May 15, 2021, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. In the main event, Charles Oliveira will vie against Michael Chandler for the vacant lightweight championship.##
As noted, The Longest-reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, having held the title since April 2018. With 29 wins and no losses, will finally step away from the octagon with an undefeated record. Thus, to crown a new champion Dana White announced that Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler will fight for the vacant lightweight championship at UFC 262 on May 15.##
Oliveira last faced Tony Ferguson on December 12, 2020, at UFC 256 in the co-main event. He won the fight via unanimous decision. While, Chandler made his promotional debut against Dan Hooker at UFC 257 on January 24, 2021. He won the fight via technical knockout in the first round. This win earned him the Performance of the Night award.##
A flyweight bout between former UFC Flyweight Championship challenger Alex Perez and Matt Schnell was scheduled for the event. However, Perez was forced to pull out due to undisclosed reasons. He was replaced by Rogério Bontorin. ##
A middleweight bout between Jack Hermansson and Edmen Shahbazyan was expected to take place at this event. However, the bout was postponed to take place one week later at UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Garbrandt due to a COVID-19 case in Hermansson's camp ##
