For the second time in the same calendar month, the UFC will promote a pay-per-view on Saturday, this time with a pair of title rematches atop the marquee from the American Airlines Center in Dallas. ## In the main event of UFC 277, Julianna Pena will make the first defense of her women's bantamweight title as she faces fellow TUF coach Amanda Nunes in a rematch of Pena's massive upset in December. ## “At the end of the day, Amanda and I are the two best women’s fighters in the world,” Peña said at the UFC 277 media day. “You’re literally getting the two best fighters in the world that are going to collide on Saturday night. I can’t tell you that I’m going to pull a rabbit out of the hat, I can just tell you that I’m going to stand there toe to toe with the best in the world, and I’m going to give my best, and we’re going to see whose ovaries are bigger. I’m willing to bet that that is me.” ## “I’m ready to snuff out this torch,” Peña said. “The torch was passed, I snuffed it out. I’m ready to close this chapter, and I’m ready to move forward. With that being said, it’s hard for me to predict what’s in the future and what’s going to happen. I just want to live presently at the moment, and presently I have a bigger, faster, stronger, new gym, better mental-state Amanda that’s going to be facing me on Saturday night, and I don’t take that lightly. I take it very seriously.” ## “There’s nobody in the division. There’s really not,” Peña said. “It’s a division of who? Amanda? Who else? All the girls that have fought at ‘45 just went up in weight so they could have a shot at the belt, because they couldn’t get done at 135. It’s a division of literally no one. Curtis Blaydes -31 faced Tom Aspinall -29 on July 23, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 208, but the bout didn't go as Blaydes expected it to go. Curtis Blaydes was just as frustrated as everyone else following his win in UFC London’s main event, which ended in 15 seconds after Tom Aspinall suffered a knee injury. ## Although, Curtis Blaydes won the battle by technical knockout 15 seconds into the first round due to a knee injury, but showed up his fruition coming out of that sort of win. ## “I have no idea what happened,” Blaydes said at the UFC London post-fight press conference. “He landed the kick, I went to counter, he dropped. That’s all I know. “I’m frustrated. No one wants to win like that. I got the win, I hold my ranking, I get the money. But without a highlight, did it even happen? Did the fight even happen? Is this going to be in the news next week? Am I going to get an interview with Ariel Helwani? Am I going to be on YouTube? Am I going to gain 50,000 Instagram followers? No. So I’m disappointed about all of that, but nothing we can do about it now.” ## “Everyone was hyping up [Aspinall’s] speed. He’s not as fast as you guys make it seem to be,” Blaydes said. “I know it was only 15 seconds, but every exchange, he got touched. In a lot of his highlights, when he’s sparking these guys, it’s because they’re stagnant. They don’t move their feet, which is what I do. So I just don’t believe the hype. I don’t think he’s as fast as everyone thought he was. Obviously he’s also not as big as everyone made him out to be. I felt like I was bigger, more athletic, more explosive, and obviously, I think my bones are stronger, because he landed the kick on me and he ended up getting injured. ## “So I don’t know. It’s a weird night. Really hard to come up with witty answers with a win like that. It’s hard to be hyped up about it.” ## “I’m not risking my ranking [for an immediate rematch],” Blaydes said. “I won the fight. Heading into this fight, I envisioned the winner — which is me — would be fighting the winner of [Tai] Tuivasa and [Ciryl] Gane. So I’m not going to pass up an opportunity to fight those guys when it’s right there, to wait for Tom Aspinall to heal and run it back. ## “As long as I knock out the next guy, the hype’s back. MMA is like that. You could win four fights in a row, lose a fight, everyone says you suck. You could lose three in a row, win one, and you’re the greatest in the world. Hermansson goes high with a kick that gets blocked. Hermansson lands an outside calf kick. Curtis finally steps in but Hermansson drops in on a single. He holds it and tries a tree top but Curtis pulls his leg out. ## Now Curtis showing a little more urgency to come forward and he lands a good body hook. Hermansson still chopping away with that outside low kick. Curtis trying to corner Hermansson but struggling. ## Round Second: Curtis lands a couple of punches as Hermansson steps in for a moment but he's back to the range kicking. This is a bad fight for him. Curtis lands a body shot but Hermansson moves again. Hermansson shoots a double but no real intent and Curtis stuffs it. He's chasing Hermansson now. ## Hermansson lands a head kick, but Curtis blocks, Hermansson fires shots and Curtis stumbles back to the fence! Curtis takes a bunch but he's finally able to pivot off! Hermansson lands a body kick though. Curtis needs to change things immediately if he wants any chance to win. ## Round Three: Hermansson comes out chopping the leg again. Curtis starting to open up some but Hermansson is not there to get hit too much. A low blow causes a break in the action but it's short-lived. ## Curtis finally gets Hermansson pinned down for a combo but Hermansson covers up and moves. Hermansson shoots but it's stuffed and now Curtis is fighting like he gives a crap and Hermansson is uncomfortable. Hermansson lands a big body kick though. UFC 280 is just getting better and better with soon-to-be added to the greatest matches list in UFC history. ## Over the weeks UFC has been adding up some of the finest fights. With new additions breaking out every day, It seems that UFC 280 might be the “it” card of the year. ## UFC 280 is set to take place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The event is headlined by two title fights: Charles Oliveira vs. Makhachev for the vacant lightweight belt and Aljamain Sterling vs. T.J. Dillashaw for Sterling’s bantamweight championship. ## Sean O’Malley, who appeared on DC & RC on Wednesday, he’ll be fighting former champion Petr Yan, joining the reigning champion Aljamain Sterling who will look to defend the title he took from Yan when he fights TJ Dillashaw. ## The fight will be the first non-title fight for Yan who lost his title due to a controversial DQ after illegally kneeing Sterling in the final moments of their fight. The belt went to Aljamain via default, despite Yan clearly on his way to a dominant decision win. Their rematch, another five-round affair saw Sterling defend the title via a controversial close decision.
