The greatest ode to Lord Ram

The greatest ode to Lord Ram

New Delhi, March 11 (IANS) The 'Ramcharitmanas' is undoubtedly one of the greatest lyrical compositions in Hindi literature. Writing in the 16th century, Tulsidas chose to pen verses in Awadhi rather than Sanskrit, thus breaking with the literary tradition, and, importantly, making Lord Ram more relatable to the lay person.## Pavan K. Varma, author of the best-selling "Adi Shankaracharya: Hinduism's Greatest Thinker", has selected some of the most evocative stanzas from Ramcharitmanas, offering a succinct commentary for each that capture the very core of the original in "The Greatest Ode to Lord Ram: Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas; Selections & Commentaries," published by Westland.## While centering the philosophical aspect of the Ramcharitmanas -- the immutability of the soul over the merely corporeal; the transience of worldly pleasures; and the placing of wisdom above knowledge -- the book describes a devoted son, a loving sibling, a committed lover, an ideal ruler and also a human, almost bereft of divinity. Indeed, Ram is a god and a man; he is comprehensible.## "Tulsidas' seminal work employs a unique poetic linguistic tool that unravels even the most profound concepts with utmost simplicity, blending philosophy with breathtaking verse. Varma's compelling new selection and commentary achieve this effect by combining the aesthetics, romance, and imagery of the original work with the unadulterated spirituality that sparkles through the conduct of a great god," the publisher said in a statement.## Pavan K. Varma is a writer-diplomat and now in politics, where he was till recently an MP in the Rajya Sabha. He was an earlier advisor to the Chief Minister of Bihar, in the rank of a Cabinet minister.## He was Ambassador to several countries, and also Director of the Nehru Centre in London, official spokesperson of the MEA, and Press Secretary to the President of India. Author of over a dozen successful books, Pavan K. Varma was conferred an honorary doctoral degree for his contribution to the fields of diplomacy, literature, culture, and aesthetics by the University of Indianapolis in 2005.## He was also conferred the Druk Thuksey, Bhutan's highest civilian award, by the King of Bhutan in 2012. In 2018, on the instructions of the Shankaracharya of Sringeri, Varma was conferred an honorary doctorate by Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management.## For more and latest news about TV, stay tuned with us.

Colorectal cancer on rise among young adults: Study

London, March 11 (IANS) With the rise in incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) among adults, it could no longer be considered a disease of older people, according to a study.## Although men in older age groups are well recognised to have higher incidence of colonic and rectal cancer, there is little difference in the incidence rates between men and women aged below 40 years.## For the study, published in the BJS (British Journal of Surgery), the researchers from the University of Bristol, UK, examined data on adults, diagnosed with colorectal cancer in England between 1974 and 2015.## The CRC, also known as bowel cancer, colon cancer, or rectal cancer, is the development of cancer from the colon or rectum (parts of the large intestine).## According to the study, of the 1,145,639 CRC cases among adults aged over 20 years between 1974 and 2015, 2,594 cases were in the 20-29 year age group, 11,406 in the 30-39 year age group and 42,134 in the 40-49 year age group.## The most sustained increase was seen in adults aged 20-29 years, the study said. The magnitude of increases was similar in both sexes and across income levels, it added.## The most pronounced increases was in the southern regions of England, according to the researchers and added, young patients needed more treatment to achieve similar outcomes than older people.## Changes in incidence rates could be used to plan future screening policy, preventative strategies, research agendas as well as increasing public understanding that younger people must be aware of symptoms of colorectal cancer, the researchers said.## The University of Bristol, the research university in Bristol, England, is ranked 49th by the QS World University Rankings 2020. It's ranked in the top 10 of UK universities in 2020.##

Arya's latest is first Tamil film to use Indian animation

Chennai, March 11 (IANS) Tamil star Arya's new film 'Teddy', directed by Shakti Soundarajan, is in the news for a special reason. 'Teddy' becomes the first Tamil film to use an Indian company to design a special animated character.## It also becomes the second Tamil film to use motion-capture technology, to bring to life a teddy bear.## In an interview, Director Soundarajan said: "Unlike the Rajinikanth's 'Kochadaiiyaan', ours isn't an animated movie. The technology has been used only for one particular character. We roped in an artist to bring a special character, which will appear for 80 minutes, live on screen."## His previous film "Tik Tik Tik", a space-based theme, was also heavy on animation.## Motion capture or mo-cap refers to the process of recording movements of objects or people. The specialists place sensors all over an actor. The sensor then tracks their movements, allowing them to be mapped on a computer screen in real-time. Animators then create a virtual set for the movement to take place in. Director Shankar first used a form of mo-cap and 3D holograph for the song ''Kannodu Kanbathellam'' in Jeans (1998).## A few weeks ago, the makers released the song "En iniya thanimaye' from the film, which is a one-of-its-kind 3D lyrical video. The viral song has music composed by Imaan, lyrics by Madhan Karky and has been sung by Sid Sriram. Set to be released in summer 2020, the film features real-life couple Sayyeshaa and Arya.## Meanwhile, Arya is preparing for director Pa Ranjith's next film. It is speculated that he will play the role of a boxer who hails from north Chennai. He even shared a video of his chiseled body. He posted a video of his workout on Twitter stating: "Ranjith sir, all set! My love for sports coming alive on screen All set to face the boxers in the ring with @beemji sir for our next. It's the most challenging film of my career. Loving the experience. #Ranjith sir is just phenomenal."## For more and latest news about Kollywood, stay tuned with us.
