Tovino Thomas calls 'Minnal Murali' co-star Guru Somasundaram a 'mentor'

Chennai, Dec 25 (IANS) Actor Tovino Thomas, whose just-released superhero film 'Minnal Murali' has been getting rave reviews, says he has not just found a friend in Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram but also a mentor as well. ## Posting pictures of himself with his co-star Guru Somasundaram on social media, Tovino said, "For obvious reasons, I had to wait for so long to post these pictures. But here's to having met one of the most sweetest persons, with whom I have had endless conversations about cinema, life and what not." ## "It was important to have a connection and chemistry for us to play Jaison and Shibu, and my bond with him has been one of the biggest takeaways from 'Minnal Murali'. I'm happy beyond words in having found a friend who I see in the place of a mentor and Guru as well. Guru Somasundaram Sir! Thank you for joining hands with us in making history. Veteran filmmaker K.S.Sethumadhavan passes away

Chennai/Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 24 (IANS) Ace film director K.S. Sethumadhavan, winner of 10 national and nine Kerala state film awards, passed away in Chennai on Friday, industry sources said.## Born in Palakkad in 1931, the 90-year-old bid adieu to his film career in the mid 90s after which he led a retired life in Chennai. ## Sethumadhavan began his film career in the late 50s, when he worked as an assistant to the then veterans like L.V. Prasad and Sunder Rao, among others. ## Sethumadhavan became an independent film director in 1960 when he directed a Sinhalese film and there was no looking back. He directed around 70 films, mostly in Malayalam, Tamil, Telegu and the hit Hindi film 'Julie' in 1975. ## Some of his most popular films include 'Odayil Ninnu', 'Daaham', 'Sthanarthi Saramma', 'Koottukudumbam', 'Vazhve Mayam', 'Aranazhika Neram', 'Anubhavangal Palichakal', 'Chattakkari', 'Oppol', 'Marupakkam'. ## Actor Mammootty first worked as a junior artiste in Sethumadhavan's hit film 'Anubhavangal Palichakal' in 1971. Actors Kamal Hassan and Suresh Gopi also made their screen debut under the master craftsman. ## In 2009, he was conferred the J.C. Daniel Award, the highest state award in films for his outstanding career and contribution to the film industry. ## Condoling Sethumadhavan's passing, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the film industry has lost a doyen, whose works have been acclaimed by all and even though he was settled in Chennai, he was always closely associated with the state and maintained a strong link. ## The last rites would be held in Chennai later in the day. ## Stay Tuned To Sacnilk For More Such Updates.

Mohanlal's epic 'Marakkar' to premiere on OTT on Dec 17

Chennai, Dec 13 (IANS): Director Priyadarshan's historical magnum opus 'Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham' (Lion of the Arabian Sea), featuring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the lead, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 17, the OTT platform announced on Monday. ## Produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas, the film boasts of a stellar cast with Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, the late Nedumudi Venu, and Pranav Mohanlal playing pivotal roles. ## The movie, which was released theatrically earlier this month, will apart, from Malayalam, also be available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. ## The period drama is a biopic of Kunjali Marakkar IV, considered to be one of the greatest naval chiefs of India. It tells the story of the epic warfare between the Portuguese invaders and Kunjali Marakkar IV, who later became the naval commander of the Zamorin, the ruler of Calicut. ## Credited to be the most expensive film ever made in Malayalam cinema, 'Marakkar' bagged the Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects, and Best Costume awards at the 67th National Film Awards in October 2021. ## "I am overwhelmed by the audience reactions the movie has received and thank each and every one of my fans for their love. It is a matter of pride for me to be a part of this extravaganza that brings alive the legendary story of Kunjali Marakkar, a man known as India's very first naval commander and famed in Kerala folklore," said Mohanlal. ## "I believe this is a story that will touch the hearts and emotional strings of every Indian. To be able to bring it to life on such an extraordinary scale is a dream come true for me. I am more than happy about the digital premiere of 'Marakkar' on Prime Video, which will give viewers across the country an opportunity to watch the movie from the comfort of their homes, along with their families," he added. ## Talking about his film's digital premiere, the film's director Priyadarshan said, "I am super excited about the digital premiere of 'Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea'. This film is very close to my heart and has been a collective dream for Lalettan and me for the last 20 years.
