TN University Confers Honorary Doctorate On Simbu

Chennai, Jan 11 (IANS) Well-known deemed university VELS on Tuesday honoured Tamil film actor Silambarasan with an honorary doctorate for excellence in cinema.## The doctorate was conferred on Silambarasan better known as 'Simbu' at the 11th convocation of the University, which was attended by a host of dignitaries including Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur, who witnessed the proceedings online.## Celebrated for his excellence in cinema, Silambarasan said that this was a trip down memory lane and that he relived his college days. VGP Chairman V.G. Santhosam and sportsperson T. Mariyappan were the others upon whom the honour was conferred.## Silambarasan said, "It is an honour to receive an honorary doctorate from such an esteemed institute in India... We understand the world through cinema and I'm grateful to have been part of the film industry that has offered me so much love and support. I thank everyone at VELS for the warm welcome. I felt like I relived my college days. I wish all the students the very best for their future and I'm happy that they are in such great hands".## The actor also went on to tweet about the event. He said, "Thanking all the committee members of Vels University & (its Chancellor) Ishari K. Ganesh for bestowing the Honorary Doctorate upon me. I dedicate this huge honour to Tamil cinema, my Appa & Amma! Cinema happened to me because of them! Finally - my fans, Neenga ilaama Naanilla, Nandri Iraiva! Chennai, Jan 11 (IANS) Well-known Tamil film producer Dhananjayan, who has just recovered from Covid, on Tuesday said that the third wave of Covid could be challenging and difficult but then this too shall pass.## On Monday, Dhananjayan had announced his recovery on social media, saying, "Covid-19 is real. It's painful & takes away all your energies for seven to 10 days. Completed nine days of treatment for Covid-19 & just getting back to work. Still tiredness is there. Wear Mask always, check your health parameters regularly, and don't take Covid lightly".## On Tuesday, Dhananjayan, who is co-producing actor Vijay Antony's upcoming film with director Vijay Milton, 'Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan', said, "Yes Friends. Covid third wave is challenging and difficult for most of us. It affects us professionally, personally, and financially. But that doesn't mean we become pessimistic, negative & nasty against anyone or the world. This too shall pass & we will overcome. Covid Will Turn The Poor Into Beggars, Fears Vijay Antony

Chennai, Jan 10 (IANS) Expressing his anger at the havoc being wreaked by Covid on the masses, especially the poor, Tamil film actor and music director Vijay Antony on Monday, said it would be better if somebody dropped a bomb on the world and destroyed it once and for all.## The usually soft-spoken actor, who is known for being careful with his choice of words and statements, took to social media to express his anger at repeated waves of the pandemic forcing frequent lockdowns and thereby badly affecting the livelihoods of the poor.## Writing in Tamil, he said,"Corona will make the rich become richer and will change the poor into becoming beggars. Just like how someone dropped a bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it would be great if somebody dropped a bomb on the world and destroyed it once and for all. Long live with prosperity".## The actor, who has been delivering hit after hit, is considered to be a producer's delight. NCW Seeks Action Against Actor Siddharth For 'Lewd' Tweet Against Saina Nehwal

Chennai, Jan 10 (IANS) Condemning a "lewd and inappropriate remark" by actor Siddharth against badminton player Saina Nehwal on Twitter, the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday sought "prompt and strict action" against the actor for using indecent language for women on social media.## In a statement issued by the NCW, which was shared by its chairperson Rekha Sharma on Twitter, the commission said that it had come across a post of actor Siddhart using lewd comments on Twitter on the post of Saina Nehwal.## The NCW termed Sidharth's tweet as being "misogynist and outrageous to the modesty of a woman amounting to disrespect and insult to the dignity of women on the social media platforms. (sic)"## Stating that it had taken suo moto cognizance of the issue, the commission said that its chairperson Rekha Sharma had written to the Director-General of Police, Maharashtra to investigate the matter and register an FIR under the relevant provisions of law.## Rekha Sharma has also written to Twitter India's Resident Grievance Officer, asking the social media platform to immediately block Siddharth's account and take appropriate action against him for posting offensive remarks on Nehwal's post, thereby "outraging her modesty and insulting her right to live with dignity".## Stay tuned...

Chennai, Jan 8 (IANS) Tamil actor Sathyaraj, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital after having tested positive for Covid-19, is likely to be discharged in two or three days.## Sources close to Sathyaraj, while confirming this news, told IANS that the actor was recovering well.## "Actor Sathyaraj was admitted to the hospital on Thursday. He is recovering well. In fact, doctors have told him that he will be discharged in two or three days and that he might have to quarantine himself at home for a week or so after that," a source close to the actor informed.## It is not just Sathyaraj who has been admitted to the hospital. Well-known cinematographer and director Priyadarshan has been hospitalized.## Sources say that while Sathyaraj was admitted to a private hospital in Aminijikarai, director Priyadarshan was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in the city.## There has been a sudden spurt in the number of celebrities from the Tamil and Telugu film industries testing positive for Covid. Chennai, Jan 6 (IANS) Actor Vikram has completed shooting for director Ajay Gnanamuthu's action thriller 'Cobra'.## Director Ajay took to social media to make the announcement.## He said, "Woah!! Finally, Chiyaan Vikram sir wraps up his shoot for Cobra. What a magical experience this has been!! Loved working with you sir. You are for sure an acting monster! Shall keep these memories very close to my heart".## The reason why the director said "finally" was because Vikram was supposed to have completed his portions in December itself. Chennai, Jan 5 (IANS) Actor Arun Vijay, who has a number of films in different stages of production, on Wednesday announced that he has tested positive for Covid-19. ## The actor, who is playing the lead in director Hari's 'Yaanai', which is waiting to hit screens, took to social media to make the announcement. ## Arun Vijay wrote: "Hi everyone!! This is to inform you all that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am currently under home quarantine and am following all the safety protocols as per my doctor's advice. Thanks for all the love. Chennai, Jan 2 (IANS) Actor Vishal's much-awaited action entertainer that is to be directed by director Adhik Ravichandran has been titled 'Mark Antony'.## Taking to social media, Vishal said, 'Here is the Explosive Title Look of #V33. #MarkAntony".## The film, Vishal disclosed, would be a pan-Indian action film that would be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.## The actor also said that shooting for the film would commence in February this year.## Only a few hours before announcing the title of the film, the makers had disclosed that actor S.J. Suryah would be playing a pivotal role in the film.## Suryah himself was super excited about this film and had gone on to call it a second 'Maanaadu'. Tamil Comedian Vadivelu Recovers From Covid-19

Chennai, Jan 2 (IANS) Tamil comedian Vadivelu, who was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC) in Porur, has recovered.## In a statement, the hospital said that the actor had recovered completely and that he was discharged in good health.## Vadivelu, who was screened at the Chennai airport on his return from London, tested positive for the virus.## The actor had gone to London along with members of his 'Naai Sekar Returns' unit for a music scoring session for the film.## Interestingly, days after actor Vadivelu tested positive for Covid-19, his film's director Suraj too tested positive and was admitted to a private hospital.## 'Naai Sekar Returns' will mark the return of Vadivelu back to the big screen.## Stay tuned...
