Box Office: 'Maharaja' Scored A Fantastic Second Weekend In China

Chennai, December 9 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has had a fantastic second weekend which was bigger than the first weekend at the China box office as it sets sight on the 100 crores lifetime finish there. ## The film grossed approximately 23.40 crores gross collection ($2.76 million) in the second weekend, a jump of over 20% from the first Friday to Sunday weekend collection of 21.10 crores gross. This shows that word of mouth is super positive and the legs have solidified at the Mainland box office. ## The total collection of Maharaja has approximately 64.25 crores gross ($7.58 million) after the second weekend in China and this makes it the 11th highest-grossing Indian movie there, beating Padman and Thugs Of Hindostan which minted around 60 crores gross each. ## Maharaja will next look to down SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 (80.50 crores gross) in the third weekend to enter the top 10 highest-grossing Indian films in China. Depending on how it performs in the coming days, the movie has a chance to hit 100 crores gross collection in its lifetime run which will be a huge achievement.## Meanwhile, the worldwide collection of the film has crossed 170 crores gross, at around 172 crores gross, including the China collection. Box Office Disaster 'Kanguva' Sets Streaming Release Date

Chennai, December 7 - Tamil star Suriya's fantasy action drama film Kanguva failed to live up to expectations and turned out to be a big disaster at the box office. Far from the humongous claims, this Siva's directorial ended up under 110 crores gross worldwide as a massive disappointment. ## With not getting much at the box office, the makers have now announced the streaming release date of the film in South Indian versions in the hope of a turnaround. The South Indian versions - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on December 8. ## The theatrical window of the film is just 21 days which is the lowest for a Pan India movie and an indication of how badly the film performed at the box office. Mumbai, December 6 - Vijay Sethupathi's Tamil action thriller Maharaja has topped 150 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office, thanks to the fantastic run in China. This is the first movie of the actor in the lead role to top this milestone. ## Maharaja was released in China on November 29 and in the first week, the film grossed approximately 41 crores which pushed its total worldwide cume to around 147 crores gross. On its second Friday, Maharaja has grossed approximately 5.50 crores which took its total collection past the 150 crores mark. ## After the second Friday collection in China, Maharaja has surpassed Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 (149 crores gross) to become the 5th highest-grossing Tamil movie and also the 5th 150 crores Tamil grosser of 2024 at the worldwide box office. Box Office: Vijay Sethupathi's 'Maharaja' Scored A Very Good First Week In China

Chennai, December 6 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has completed its first week at the China box office with a superb collection of close to 41 crores gross, including premieres. It has already become the highest-grossing Tamil movie on the mainland. ## After grossing approximately 26.50 crores in the opening weekend (including premiers), Maharaja showed a stronghold on Monday by scoring 3 crore gross. The movie has shown an upward trend since Monday as the collection for the rest of the week was higher than the previous day (from Tuesday to Thursday). ## The Nithilan Swaminathan's directorial minted $4.82 million (40.80 crores gross) in the full first week which is a fantastic total. Maharaja is the highest-grossing Indian movie in China since Thugs Of Hindostan in November 2018. Vijay Sethupathi's 'Maharaja' Scores 27 Crore Gross In The Opening Weekend At The China Box Office

Chennai, December 1 - Vijay Sethupathi's action thriller Maharaja has become the 15th highest-grossing Indian movie at the Chinese box office after a very good opening weekend which saw the film crossing the $3 million mark there. ## After scoring $2.30 million (19.50 crores gross) in the first 2 days (including premieres), Maharaja scored approximately 900K (7.50 crores gross) on Sunday, pushing the total collection to around $3.2 million (27 crores) in the opening weekend. ## With $3.2 million, Maharaja has become the 15th highest-grossing Indian movie in China (in terms of dollars) while in Indian currency, it has become the 13th biggest grosser there by beating Drishyam (27 crore gross), Kaabil (23.50 crores gross), and 102 Not Out (22.50 crores gross). ## Directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja's next target is Aamir Khan's Thugs Of Hindostan which grossed approximately 60 crores in China. Box Office Blockbuster 'Amaran' Sets Streaming Release Date

Chennai, November 30 - Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan has taken a giant step towards becoming the next big star in Tamil cinema with his latest war action drama film Amaran which has emerged as the biggest Tamil blockbuster of the year and one of the biggest in recent times. ## Released on October 31, the Rajkumar Periasamy's directorial has bossed the box office, grossing approximately 325 crores worldwide in 30 days so far. It is the second highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2024 after Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All-Time. ## Amaran has benefitted from the extended theatrical window which has been normalized to just 4 weeks by the industry. Dhanush Files Case Against Nayanthara

Chennai, November 27 - Tamil star Dhanush has filed a case against actress Nayanthara for allegedly using visuals related to his production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary - Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale without his permission. ## Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara, was produced by Dhanush and the actor-filmmaker has been at loggerheads with the actress for the same. Recently, Nayan shared a note on social media in which she slammed Dhanush for denying her permission and demanding a 10 crore sum for using the film's footage in the documentary. ## According to the report by NDTV, Dhanush has approached the Madras High Court against Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan and their production house Rowdy Pictures Private Limited as the civil suit claims the actress and others used certain visuals from the movie without obtaining NOC. ## Dhanush's Wunderber Films Private also has taken out an application urging the High Court to grant permission to sue the Mumbai-based company Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, an entity through which Netflix reports its content investments in India, per NDTV.## The lawsuit threatens that if the content (in Nayanthara's documentary) isn't taken down within 24 hours, Dhanush's legal team will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action, including but not limited to seeking damages to a sum of Rs. 10 crores against Nayanthara and Netflix India.## Stay tuned...

Chennai, November 19 - Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar's action comedy Good Bad Ugly is one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of 2025. Box Office: 'Kanguva' First Sunday/4th Day Early Estimates

Chennai, November 17 - Kollywood star Suriya's Kanguva has an underwhelming extended opening weekend at the box office, considering the hype and craze it had among the fans before release. The movie scored a good opening but it has been a downfall since then. ## The movie scored a minor jump on Sunday, however, a big jump which was needed after the underwhelming first 3 days, was missing. According to the early estimates, the fantasy action thriller scored an estimated 12-13 crores gross collection in all versions on its 4th day. ## In Tamil Nadu, the movie scored more or less in the similar range as yesterday for an estimated 5.50 crores gross while showing a minor jump in most of the other areas. The total first 4-day weekend collection is around 64 crores gross in India, which is underwhelming. ## The negative word of mouth has affected Kanguva big time during the first weekend and now, a rebound looks difficult from hereon. Actress Jyotika Points Out Targeted Negativity Against Suriya's Kanguva

Chennai, November 17 — Actress Jyothika has called out the targeted negativity towards her husband, actor Suriya. The award-winning actress took to Instagram and shared her thoughts on Suriya's latest movie Kanguva and how it has been made to suffer with hate campaigns by media and certain fraternities. ## While admitting that Kanguva is not a perfect film with some issues, especially in the first half-hour, the actress said it is also not a bad movie that deserves such a high level of negativity. The movie was released on November 14 and was bashed left, right, and centre on social media which has already affected the box office of the film. ## Speaking about the same, Jyotika said in a long note on Instagram, "I'm surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it's not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age-old stories, where women r stalked, double meaning dialogues r spoken and have the most over the top action sequences".## The actor-producer further said that the media intentionally ignored the positive side while reviewing the film and that has made her wonder largely whether one should ever read, listen or believe reviewers after all. ## "It's sad that they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on day 1, even before the first show was over (seemed more like multiple group propagandas) when it actually deserves applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create 3D and such a magnificent visual", she added.## Directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green, Kanguva opened to record numbers for actor Suriya but dropped heavily in the next 2 days. Box Office: 'Kanguva' First Saturday Early Estimates

Chennai, November 16 - Tamil star Suriya's big-budget fantasy action thriller Kanguva failed to score a big jump on its first Saturday which was a must after the underwhelming second day. As expected, the negative word of mouth has started cutting the audience. ## According to the early estimates, on the first Saturday/third day the all-India gross of the movie is almost in the similar range as yesterday with around 11 crores gross. The movie has seen a decent but not enough jump in the home state Tamil Nadu with an estimated around 5 crore gross collection today. ## Kanguva needed a big jump today to cover the lost ground but that didn't happen which shows the movie is facing rejection from the audience. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the movie has seen a drop almost everywhere which is concerning. It is unlikely the movie will see much turnaround on Sunday but a drop will seal the deal. ## The total domestic collection of the film after 3 days is around 51 crores gross which could have been a very good collection of any of Suriya's previous films but can't be said the same about Kanguva which was made on a huge budget. Chennai, November 16 - In a dramatic turn of events, actress Nayanthara has slammed actor Dhanush in an open letter to him. The controversy erupted when Dhanush denied permission to use the footage of his production venture Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015) in Nayanthara's upcoming Netflix docuseries, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale. ## In a lengthy note to the actor, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of demanding a 10 crore sum for using a mere 3 seconds of a video clip from the movie in the documentary. Chennai, November 16 - Sivakarthikeyan's mega-blockbuster Amaran has unlocked one more milestone as it has become the second Tamil movie of 2024 to top 200 crores gross collection at the domestic box office after Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All-Time. ## The movie, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, crossed the milestone on its 16th day after grossing another 4+ crores on the day.
