Box Office: Shamshera First Monday Early Estimates

Mumbai, July 25 - Shamshera is moving towards a low day at the box office after a below-average opening weekend of around 32 crores net. As per the early estimates, the movie scored approx. 3.75 cr. net on its first Monday (4th day). The drop from the first day or first Sunday is massive as both the first day and first Sunday had similar collections. The drop is not a problem but the drop is coming after a very low starting point for such a massive film makes it a disaster of epic proportion. The first Monday collections will take the entire collections of Shamshera to over 35cr net box office mark and there will be too little to come from hereon. The next week will see a big release in the form of Ek Villain Returns which will take most of the screens from Shamshera. Shamshera is another disaster for Yash Raj Films which is the biggest banner of Hindi films after Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Samrat Prithviraj. They have huge films lined up and they have to fire otherwise the banner will face massive losses. 'Jai Bhim' Director TJ Gnanavel To Make His Bollywood Debut With 'Dosa King'

Mumbai, July 25 - Junglee Pictures has announced its next film, an epic thriller drama "Dosa King". The studio has collaborated with the Tamil director, T.J. Gnanavel, who famously directed the Suriya-starrer "Jai Bhim". "Dosa King" marks his debut in Bollywood cinema. ## "Dosa King" is inspired by a woman called Jeevajothi Santhakumar and her tribulation with a restaurant mogul and hotelier P. Rajagopal, an accused in a 2001 murder case. P. Rajagopal was accused of a crime that shocked the nation resulting in a conviction after a trial that went on for 18 years - P.Rajagopal v. State of Tamil Nadu.## Sharing his excitement, Gnanavel, said, "I've observed the subject closely, following the case during my days as a journalist. I hope to bring out new dimensions through Jeevajothi's legal battle on screen. Today, directing this project & working on its characters feels surreal. I'm excited to begin this journey with Junglee Pictures which is known for developing some of the most iconic films in contemporary Indian Cinema".## The story of the upcoming film depicts Jeevajothi's fight against a powerful opponent, the owner of one of the largest South Indian restaurant chains in the world. An Indian restaurateur, better known as a family man who was worshipped for his huge-hearted generosity by not only his employees but also by the diners.## As per media reports, Rajagopal, who was the founder of the popular South Indian food chain - Saravana Bhavan, wanted to marry Jeevajothi, who was the daughter of one of his employees at his restaurant. ## Jeevajothi, however, was already married. To change things in his favor, Rajagopal hatched a criminal conspiracy to eliminate her husband, Prince Santhakumar. And in 2001, Prince Santhakumar was murdered and his body was found in Kodaikanal city of Karnataka. Rajagopal was eventually convicted for the murder of Jeevajothi Santhakumar's husband by the Supreme Court, a justice that was delivered almost two decades after the crime.## Junglee Pictures acquired the rights for the story of Jeevajothi Santhakumar in July 2021. Bhavani Iyer has penned the script of the film. Mumbai, July 24 - Shamshera is heading towards yet another low day at the box office as the early estimated collections are set to be in the same range as the first two days. The collections are likely to be between 10.50-10.75cr net box office collections. There was a hope that the film will see a growth of around 50% on Sunday as the first two days' collections were low but the numbers on Sunday shocked the entire trade. The first-weekend collection is just a little over 31 crores mark. There is no center that is recording even a decent footfall. Getting this sort of low collection with this sort of ticket pricing is nothing but disastrous. Delhi-NCR which was leading from the front in collections has started getting hit by bad word of mouth. Shamshera is moving towards a huge disaster film no matter how the film will going to hold on the first Monday as the fate of the film has been sealed in the first weekend only. Akshay Kumar's 'Sooryavanshi' Opening Day Box Office Becomes A Dream Number To Crack For Bollywood

Mumbai, July 24 - The Bollywood film industry had pinned high hopes on Ranbir Kapoor's period action drama film Shamshera to break the jinx of Bollywood films not being able to take the big openings during the covid-19 pandemic. When the advance booking of the film started, it looked like the movie would sure take a very good opening, but, things didn't go as planned as the movie failed to make an impact at the box office. ## "Shamshera" was Yash Raj Films' biggest hope in its current slot, but just like most of the Bollywood films during the covid-19 pandemic, the movie ended up taking an underwhelming start of 10.25 crores net, which is almost half of what trade pundits had predicted.## The underwhelming start at the box office of this Karan Malhotra-directed is not a case with it only, as most Bollywood films have struggled to take a good start since the Rs. 26.29 crores opening of Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi last year. Since the release of "Sooryavanshi", not a single Bollywood movie has been able to crack the 20 crores mark on an opening day, forget about going past Rohit Shetty-directorial. ## Before the covid-19 pandemic broke out in India in early 2020, taking a big opening was a cakewalk for Bollywood films featuring top stars, but now, the opening of "Sooryavanshi" has become a dream number to crack for the largest Indian film industry. Aamir Khan's "Laal Singh Chaddha", which is slated to release on August 11, is the next big Bollywood release. However, it is also not looking to reach or cross the cop action drama, which is shocking, to say the least. But, an Aamir Khan film should never be ruled out as there might be an unexpected surprise. We have to wait for that a couple of more weeks.## Among the upcoming films, director Ayan Mukerji's epic "Brahmastra Part One: Shiva" is really looking highly promising and should be able to take a huge opening and might breach the 30 crores mark for the first since "War" (2019). Mumbai, July 23 - Shamshera had a low start on the first day with collections of a little over the 10cr mark which is although not a bad number but considering the release size and star cast of the film, it had an underwhelming opening. There were some expectations that the film will see growth on Saturday but it did not happen as the early estimated collections are set to be in the same range compared to yesterday. The business on the first Saturday estimates to be around 10.75 crores. There is no sign of improvement on the second day of the film which confirms the rejection of the film. Basically, the total of two days should have been the opening day number of Shamshera. Delhi-NCR continues to be the best-performing circuit but if you see this circuit as a standalone circuit then even Delhi-NCR has underperformed. The film might see some growth on Sunday due to being a national holiday but from Monday the film will collect a very negligible amount at the ticket window. Mumbai, July 22 - Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor has been released in the cinemas today. Backed by Yash Raj Films, Shamshera has been released on over 4350 screens, making it the biggest release post the pandemic for Hindi films. The film has taken a decent start at the box office in the morning shows but just like most big films, even Shamshera underperformed in the morning as being the mass frontloaded film, The morning occupancy should have been higher. The early estimated collections are set to be around 10.50 crores net which is just a decent collection for such a massive film with a huge star cast. If we compare it to previous big-budget Yash Raj Films Prithviraj then the opening is almost similar. The best collections for the first day have come in the Delhi-NCR circuit and also the film is running with the highest number of shows on the same circuit. Ranbir Kapoor's 'Shamshera' Opening Day Box Office Prediction

Mumbai, July 21 - Ranbir Kapoor returns to the big screen after more than 4 years with Yash Raj Films' Shamshera. The Karan Malhotra-directed period action drama film will be hitting worldwide theaters tomorrow (July 22) in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, also in IMAX. ## Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani's biographical comedy-drama "Sanju", which was a huge blockbuster at the box office, so the expectations from his upcoming movie are high and should be. The advance booking of the same was opened on July 17 as there was a good buzz for the movie. ## The initial advance booking response for "Shamshera" was decent and at the same time, was better than most of this year's Bollywood movies. However, after that initial promise, the advance booking hasn't picked up as per the wish of the makers as the pre-sales collection of the movie is around 3.50 crores gross only. It might still reach 5 crores before the first show starts. ## The trade experts have been projecting the film to open around 20 crores, which is not looking to happen at this point in time. Taking the advance booking into the account, the movie is tracking to open around 11-12 crores net. However, looking at the subject of the movie which is promising to be a mass entertainer, which often leads to a good spot booking, the movie has a fair chance to take the opening of 15-16 crores. ## Ranbir's last film, "Sanju" opened to a huge 34+ crores, but the scenario was different at that time. This time around, the opening of 15+ crores for "Shamshera" will be considered good and if word of mouth is positive, then the opening weekend has a shot for 55+ crores. The trailer and other promos have left a positive impact on the audiences and this should lead to good footfalls in cinemas. ## In 2022, the biggest opening for a Bollywood movie belongs to Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu's "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2", which opened to 14.11 crores net in May.
