Hershey, September 1, 2023 - WWE is all set to bring Payback to fans this Saturday, and while there aren't many plans in place for next week's SmackDown at the moment, that's likely to change following the premium live event. However, there is already one confirmed match to anticipate. ## Next week, WWE is rolling into Boston's TD Garden, a venue known for hosting significant shows. The upcoming episode has a match already scheduled. ## Charlotte Flair recently came to the aid of Shotzi Blackheart against the team of Bayley and IYO Sky. To settle the ongoing rivalry, a tag team match has been locked in for next week. ## Furthermore, John Cena is confirmed for next week's episode of WWE SmackDown. While SmackDown airs live on Fox Sports in Mexico and across Central and South America since 2014. ## WWE Friday Night SmackDown, September 1, 2023 Play-By-Play Results The John Cena segment ## Cena made his entrance to a loud cheer and shouted, "Welcome to SmackDown!" The crowd started chanting "Cena!" Cena expressed his gratitude, saying that the fans have given him 20 years of great moments. He mentioned that it only gets better and promised to say "Thank you" every time he steps into the ring. Cena announced his return to WWE and talked about his upcoming matches in India and hosting Payback on Saturday. He pledged to give back to the fans and promised an epic SmackDown tonight. However, Jimmy Uso's music interrupted him. ## The crowd responded with boos, and they kept chanting Cena's name while demanding to see Jey. Cena acknowledged the crowd's enthusiasm. Jimmy asked Cena why he was here and claimed that the crowd came to see him, a top star. He defended his actions against Jey, stating that he did it out of love for his brother. Jimmy argued that he didn't want Jey to be corrupted like Roman Reigns and John Cena. ## Cena interrupted Jimmy and poked fun at his fashion sense. Jimmy retorted by saying that Cena and Roman were just alike, always taking from others. The crowd chanted "Cena!" Cena told Jimmy that he had something on his mind for three years: the wrong Uso quit. He added, "Take that." Jimmy tried to land a super-kick, but Cena countered with an Attitude Adjustment, and his music played to close the segment. ## In the backstage interview, Kayla Braxton welcomed Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, who laughed about Cena hosting Payback. Theory bragged about his victory over Cena at WrestleMania. Then, we returned to the ring for the LWO entrance. ## Grayson Waller & Austin Theory Vs Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar ## The match kicked off with Escobar and Waller in the ring. Mysterio quickly tagged in, and Theory attempted to attack, but both Theory and Waller ended up outside the ring. Escobar then tossed Mysterio over the top rope onto the heels. The action paused for a commercial break. ## Upon returning from the break, Waller was in control, working over Mysterio inside the ring. Theory tagged in and continued the assault on Mysterio with punches and kicks until Waller took his turn. Theory held Mysterio, and Waller tried to hit him, but Mysterio dodged, causing Waller to inadvertently strike Theory. Waller then tagged out, and Mysterio managed to make the hot tag to Escobar. ## Escobar entered the ring, executing a cross body on Waller for a near two-count. He followed up with a Frankensteiner from the top rope for another near fall. Theory and Mysterio both got back into the ring, and things got chaotic. Theory aimed for a chop block on Mysterio, but Escobar intervened, sacrificing himself to take the blow. Waller capitalized on the situation, running in and delivering the rolling stunner to Escobar, securing the victory. ## WINNER: Grayson Waller & Austin Theory ## Backstage, Adam Pearce was having a conversation with Michin when Jimmy Uso barged in. Pearce told Jimmy to leave, and Jimmy reluctantly complied. The focus then shifted back to the ring, and Bobby Lashley made his way to the entrance. The show took a commercial break. ## Upon returning from the break, Michin was seen chatting with the rest of the O.C., and AJ Styles appeared visibly upset. The scene then shifted back to the ring. ## The Bobby Lashley/Street Profits segment ## The crowd was really excited for Lashley, and he expressed his gratitude to them. Lashley then addressed the ongoing situation between him and the Street Profits. He mentioned that he wants to give credit where it's due and praised the Street Profits. Lashley highlighted their charisma, athleticism, and aggressiveness. Before he could continue, Montez Ford interrupted him, stating they were there to show their appreciation to Lashley. ## Ford added that the Street Profits find themselves pretty attractive. Dawkins chimed in, mentioning that Lashley helped them see the bigger picture. Ford clarified that it's nothing personal, it's just about making profits. Together, they both said "Thank you," directed towards Lashley. ## Lashley explained that their presence was meant to convey a message to the WWE Universe. He declared that they are putting everyone on notice and are on a mission to attain power, control, and championship titles. However, the moment didn't last long as Kevin Owens made his entrance with the tag team belts. Following him, Sami Zayn entered the scene, passing by the Street Profits on their way to the ring ## Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn Vs Cruz Del Toro & Juaquin Wilde ## Sami and Wilde kicked things off, with Sami applying a wrist lock and then transitioning into a side headlock. Sami maintained the side headlock, eventually sending Wilde to the apron. Wilde responded with a shoulder tackle and a flip over Sami, followed by a back elbow and splash for a near fall. Sami attempted a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, but Wilde managed to land on his feet. Sami recovered with a clothesline, and Kevin tagged in, climbing the ropes and delivering a swanton for a near fall. ## Kevin tried for a pop-up powerbomb, but Wilde countered with a dropkick. Cruz entered the ring, delivering a running forearm in the corner, followed by jabs and a chop to Kevin. Shotzi goes for Bayley's leg, but Bayley dodges her. Shotzi manages to avoid Bayley's attacks and traps Bayley's leg in the ropes, delivering punches. In response, Bayley slaps Shotzi, who smiles and responds with a couple of clotheslines and punches. She follows up with more punches.## Bayley executes an Irish whip, and Shotzi counters with a head scissors in the ropes. Bayley retaliates by kicking Shotzi in the knee and delivering forearm strikes. She proceeds to kick Shotzi in the corner and mocks Shotzi's hairstyle. Shotzi responds with an enzuigiri, then pulls Bayley to the floor and tosses her by the hair multiple times. She finishes this sequence with a cannonball off the apron before we head to a commercial break.## After returning from the break, Bayley applies a reverse chin lock. Shotzi fights back with elbows and a jawbreaker to break free. Bayley kicks Shotzi and lands an elbow drop to her back for a near fall. Bayley climbs the turnbuckles but misses an elbow drop as Shotzi gets her knees up.
