Mumbai, November 23 - The final of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 between host India and Australia broke viewership records on television and digitally.## Jay Shah, honorary secretary of BCCI and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced via X/Twitter that the final match was watched by 30 crore fans which is an all-time record for any kind of event on Indian television. ## The peak concurrency on television during the final reached a staggering 13 crores which is also the highest ever. Meanwhile, Disney Plus Hotstar also recorded a peak concurrency viewership of 5.9 crores which is the highest ever in the world on any streaming platform. ## Disney+Hotstar had earlier breached the peak concurrency viewership of 4 crores, 4.50 crore, and 5 crore during the tournament and it nearly touched 6 crores in the final. Mumbai, November 16 - During India's thumping win over New Zealand in the first Semi-Final of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, Disney Plus Hotstar created an all-time viewership record, not just once but twice in the world as a large set of the audiences tuned in to watch the match on the streamer. ## Disney Plus Hotstar is streaming this ongoing World Cup for free for mobile users and this move is getting it massive viewership numbers. During India's batting in the first innings, Hotstar recorded peak live concurrency viewership of 5 crores (50 million) which was the highest ever in the world. ## Any streamer in the world never recorded 5 crore concurrent viewers before this record was broken during the second innings when New Zealand was batting. Hotstar announced that 5.3 crore (53 million) live viewers tuned in to watch the nail-biting second innings, which is now the highest peak concurrent viewership in the world. Mumbai, December 27 - Filmmaker Anand L Rai's romantic-drama "Atrangi Re" starring Dhanush, and Sara Ali Khan, along with Akshay Kumar in the extended cameo, is having a good run on the OTT space. The movie was directly released on Disney+Hotstar on December 24, and as announced by the streamer, the film became the most-viewed Hotstar title on a premier day. ## While Hotstar announced that "Atrangi Re" is its most-viewed film on the first day, the question remains about the views it got. The OTT platforms have always been on the receiving side for manipulating viewership data and for their lack of transparency.## Ormax Media, a media consulting firm that tracks viewership figures of top releases across major platforms, is one of the trustable sources when it comes to viewership numbers. According to the company, "Atrangi Re" easily topped the last week by a long margin. The movie gained over 8.8 million views in the first 3 days, almost double than Sushmita Sen's "Aarya" Season 2's 4.7 million views from Dec. 20 to 26th. ## "Atrangi Re" was released in Hindi and Tamil (dubbed). The Tamil version was released due to the presence of Kollywood superstar Dhanush. Written by Himanshu Sharma, the movie got mixed responses from critics and viewers alike, who praised the unconventional plot, performances of the lead actors, however, called the screenplay incoherent and messed up with poor execution of the overall storyline. ## Produced by T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions, and Cape of Good Films, "Atrangi Re" marks Akshay's second direct OTT release. The actor announced his much-awaited OTT debut with the Disney Plus Hotstar series, Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness, in April. The crime drama thriller is said to the official Hindi adaptation of the British TV series, Luther which starred Idris Elba in the lead roles. ## Now, we have learnt that South Indian actress, Raashii Khanna has been roped in to play a key role. While Ajay Devgn will be stepping in the shoes of Edris Elba as a detective investigating serious crimes while simultaneously facing his own demons, Raashii will reprise the role of Ruth Wilson, who is a psychopath and murderer. Interestingly, Rudra marks Khanna's second back-to-back Hindi show after Raj-DK's in-the-production Amazon Prime series that stars Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. ## According to Peepingmoon, Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Ventilator director Rajesh Mapuskar comes on board to helm the series, which will reportadly go on floors on July 21 in Mumbai. The gripping and dark cop drama will be shot over the next two months in numerous renowned sites around Mumbai. Recently, the makers of the movie released the first look poster of the movie and now a complaint has been filed before a court in Muzaffarpur, Bihar on Thursday against filmmakers Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt, along with actress Alia Bhatt, who have been accused of 'hurting Hindu sentiments' through the poster.## The complaint was lodged by Acharya Chandra Kishore Parashar, a resident of Sikandarpur locality of the town, through his advocate Sonu Kumar. ## The complainant has taken exception to the use of an image of Kailash Mansarovar in the poster of the movie. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mukesh Kumar, fixed July 08 as the next date of hearing in the case, lodged under IPC sections 295A (deliberately outraging religious feelings) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).## Sadak 2 is a romantic thriller film which is a sequel to the blockbuster movie of 1991 'Sadak'. It is produced by Mukesh Bhatt while Mahesh Bhatt is making his comeback after more than 2 decades as a director. Termed as the mother of all the OTT announcements, today, the streaming giant Disney Plus Hotstar announced 7 movies which will be premiered on Disney+Hotstar between July and October. The Disney Plus Hotstar yesterday announced that it will held a virtual press conference on June 29 to make big announcements. ## In today's press conference, the leading stars of the films were in attendance including Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, and Abhishek Bachchan. Recently, some reports broke out that Akshay Kumar starrer Laxmmi Bomb and Ajay Devgn's Bhuj - The Pride Of India might also take an OTT route.## Now, with they are coming live together on Hotstar, they could make an official announcement of releasing their movies on Disney Plus Hotstar along with Varun Dhawan's Coolie No. 1, Alia Bhatt's Sadak 2, and Abhishek Bachchan starrer The Big Bull. ## It could be a big dent for the theaters' owners if the stars announce their movies on Hotstar as theaters are heavily banking on these movies to attract the audiences once cinemas re-open post COVID-19. The theater owners might also suffer a heavy loss of revenue if these movies don't release in theaters. ## FYI, Laxmmi Bomb was supposed to release on Eid but postponed due to lockdown while Bhuj: The Pride Of India is scheduled to release on August 14. Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan's Coolie No. 1 was also set to be theatrically released on 1 May 2020 but just like many other films, it couldn't take place at the original date. Alia Bhatt's Sadak 2 shooting was delayed by Coronavirus pandemic hence it also postponed whereas Abhishek Bachchan's The Big Bull is scheduled for October 23 release.## Stay tuned...
