The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) has time and again warned actors for releasing their movies on OTT platforms. After expressing disappointment over Mohanlal's decision of releasing "Drishyam 2" on Amazon Prime Video, the film body has now given an ultimatum to Fahadh Faasil that his films will not be allowed to release in theatres if he continues to release his films on OTT platforms. ## The warning from Kerala Film Body came after Faasil's three movies released directly on the OTT platforms which is a big setback for theater owners. He first released the shot-from-home lockdown thriller "C U Soon" on Amazon Prime Video. It was, however, released during the peek of the pandemic on 1 September 2020, which left no choice for makers but to make it available directly on OTT. ## Though, "C U Soon" released when theaters were closed, recently, two of his films "Irul" (April 2) and "Joji" (April 7) were also released on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video respectively despite the fact that theatres have opened up now in Kerala and elsewhere, including all the southern states.## The FEUOK members are of the stand that they would not allow Fahadh's upcoming movies in theatres if he continues to cooperate with OTT platforms. Actor Dileep and producer B Unnikrishnan had talked with Fahadh Faasil over the phone regarding the matter and warned him that his upcoming big-budgeted, Malik, which is scheduled to release on Eid, will not be allowed to hit theaters if he does not support theaters. ## The Film Organization has requested Faasil to take a decision at the earliest. The actor's decision, however, is awaited. Meanwhile, the Film Body has also decided not to screen Mohanlal's "Drishyam 2" in theaters. The second shooting schedule of Raj and DK's upcoming thriller series for Amazon Prime Video has commenced in Goa. The series stars Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupati, and Raashii Khanna in the prominant roles. While Raashi has already shared screen space with Sethupathi in Sangathamizhan, and Tughlaq Durbar it is the first time actress will star with Shahid. ## Excited to shoot with the filmmaker duo for this series featuring the two stars, Raashi said, "Shooting for this one-of-a-kind thriller has been an absolute joyride, and diving into a fresh schedule is going to be very exciting for me. The experience of being directed by Raj and DK is fantastic, and with stars such as Shahid and Vijay, I am always on my toes".## Titled "Sunny", the web show is said to be a two-part series in which Shahid is in the titular role while Vijay Sethupathi has reportedly been signed to play the villain. Raashi's role is yet to be known. This web series marks the third collaboration between Raj & DK and Amazon Prime Video after their two seasons of Manoj Bajpayee-fronted The Family Man with the second season set to premiere on February 12. ## Apart from the web series, Rashi Khanna has a series of films in the pipeline. The leading streaming giant, Netflix has grabbed gold by signing a new multiyear deal with Sony Pictures. According to the contract, Netflix will be the first to stream Sony Feature Films beginning from 2022 after they complete their theatrical run in the USA. These films include Uncharted, Morbius, Bullet Train & Where The Crawdads Sing, along with future sequels to Venom, Jumanji, Bad Boys & Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse.## Sony Pictures' primary pay-TV partner has been Starz, now owned by Lionsgate, since 2006. The new theatrical output deal with Netflix is believed to run about five years and is said to have worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the studio over the term. Industry sources said (according to Variety) Sony executives are working on another significant theatrical movie licensing pact outside the Netflix agreement.## Netflix is an obvious first pay window choice for Sony, given that the company already has a deal for its animated releases with Netflix. But the new deal is far more comprehensive and will see Sony's theatrical films from its Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Classics, Screen Gems, and TriStar Pictures studios all head to Netflix after completing their theatrical run. ## Starting in 2022, Netflix will be the first US streaming home for Sony Pictures films following their theatrical releases. Former India captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is all set to produce an animated spy series, titled "Captain 7". The first season of the series, which is currently in pre-production, will be based on Dhoni and set to be launched in 2022. ## As every cricket lover knows, the "7" in the title refers to Dhoni's jersey number which he donned in many one-day international matches for India. The project will be jointly produced by MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi Singh Dhoni's production house Dhoni Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Black White Orange Brands Pvt Ltd. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta doesn't believe in the comparison between the Hindi movie, "The Big Bull" and his directorial web series "Scam 1992". "Scam 1992" received rave reviews for the direction of Mehta along with Pratik Gandhi acting. The series is based on the biggest Indian stock market scam in 1992 which was done by Harshad Mehta who was the mastermind behind the disruption to the stock market of India, with over one billion USD defrauded. ## "The Big Bull", directed by Kookie Gulati and stars Abhishek Bachchan in a character based on Harshad Mehta, also based on the same storyline as Scam 1992 but with different twists and turns. The trailer was dropped on Friday (March 19), and people started making compression between the two with some calling "The Big Bull" not up to the standard of Hansal Mehta's directorial show. ## "Please don't make unfair comparisons. Amid the rise of OTT platforms in India and many filmmakers opted to release their content directly on streaming platforms because of the covid-19 pandemic, director Sanjay Gupta has once again reiterated his love for theaters. Known for his high-octane action films, the filmmaker said he has never thought of making content for OTT and asserted his films are only made for the big screen. ## "I do not work on OTT. I am not even looking at the platform. My focus has been the big screen and on what will appeal to people sitting in a closed environment, on people who make an effort to go to watch the film", he told IANS.## Mumbai Saga, which is directed by Sanjay Gupta, will be hitting theaters this Friday (March 19). The John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi starrer delayed for almost a year due to the pandemic and just like the other films, the speculation of its direct-to-digital release had also started making noise. However, Sanjay was the one who always committed to Mumbai Saga's theatrical release which is happening now. ## For Gupta, shooting "Mumbai Saga" has been quite an adventure for him due to the pandemic as there was a lot of uncertainty out there. ## "This has been an experience unlike any in my entire career. There has been a lot of uncertainty. At one point of time, it was like a life-and-death situation as there were portions to be shot and the pandemic had peaked. We completed shooting the film right in the middle of the peak. We sat on the film for six months after that".## "But somebody had to come forward among the bigger films, so we decided to go ahead and release the film. The advantage that we have over the other biggies is that our budget is not that huge. It is a calculated risk. By coming to the theatres we may not make money, but we will not lose money", he said.## However, he adds that filmmakers like him are making an effort to ensure films get a good theatrical release and making sure that Mumbai Saga gets as many screens as it can. Though he is not sure about the footfalls and has no expectations about how many people will go to theaters to watch the film. The recently released 'Roohi' showing a good trend if not as good as it was a pre-covid era. The leading streaming platforms are having tough times in dealing with new content from the last couple of months. After a controversy over the Tandav series, Amazon Prime Video was recently directed by the Bombay High Court to take down the Telugu movie, "V" over a complaint filed by actress Sakshi Malik. ## Now, Netflix has also become a subject to streaming objectionable content. This time, an Indian government agency for protecting child rights has asked Netflix to immediately stop streaming its new drama series "Bombay Begums" after it reviewed complaints around scenes showing children consuming drugs. ## In a letter to Netflix on Thursday, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) asked the streaming giant to investigate the matter and submit a report within 24 hours or face further action. The NCPCR notice referred to a tweet where a user objected to a scene showing "minors having cocaine".## "The series with this type of content will not only pollute the young minds of children, and may also result in abuse and exploitation of children", the NCPCR notice said.## Released this week, "Bombay Begums" is a series about five women from different parts of society trying to get ahead in modern Mumbai, formerly called Bombay. The new OTT guidelines decided by the government of India have started affecting the content on OTT platforms. Disney+Hotstar web series "Kamathipura", which was supposed to release on March 8, has been postponed indefinitely to make necessary changes as per the guidelines announced by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for OTT platforms. ## Actress Meera Chopra took to Twitter on Monday to announce the news. She said that the makers are ensuring they don't "hurt anybody's sentiments" and hence the changes are being made. ## Meera shared a statement on Twitter, "Hey guys I am getting a lot of messages on the release of Kamathipura. I am sorry to say that the show has been pushed ahead for sometime. Disney Hotstar being the responsible platform is adhering to the new I&B policies for OTT. As a team, we don't want to hurt anybody's sentiments. After making those necessary changes we will come up with a new release date. Delhi cop Seema Dhaka became an overnight inspiration after she got an out-of-turn (OTD) promotion for rescuing 76 missing children within 3 months.## Now, Absolute Binge Entertainment [ABE] - a subsidiary company of Absolute India Newspaper Group, owned by Yogendra Chaturvedi, has acquired the story rights of Seema to make a web-series on her life and what she has done to rescue those 76 children in record time. Seema further said that she targeted to rescue 50 kids in a year, but she rescued 76 in 2.5 months and took 15 days to prepare the report. (according to The New Indian Express)## The rescued kids were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), after which a few were shifted to shelter homes, others reunited with families and the ones who had turned to drugs were sent to rehabilitation centers.## Dhaka joined Delhi Police when she was just 20-years old in 2005. Her primary role is to register and investigate molestation cases. After the huge success of "Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story", the makers of the series have announced the second installment of the "Scam" franchise, titled "Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi".## The production banner Applause Entertainment on Thursday (March 4) revealed its plans of launching a second season, which will be based on the story of Abdul Karim Telgi, the mastermind of the 2003 Stamp Paper scam. Just like the first installment, "Scam 2003" will also be directed by the National Award Winning director, Hansal Mehta. ## The show has been adapted from the Hindi book Reporter ki Diary, authored by journalist/news reporter Sanjay Singh, who is credited for breaking the scam story years ago. The series promises to be an intriguing watch as it will capture the life of Abdul Karim Telgi, born in Khanapur in Karnataka, and his journey to becoming the mastermind behind one of India's most ingenious scams spread across multiple states which shock the entire country. It is estimated that the scam value was around 20,000 crores. ## The production house has roped in the talented Kiran Yadnyopavit - known for his contribution to the Marathi film industry, to write and develop the story along with author Sanjay Singh.
