Mumbai, January 27 - Sunny Deol has once again proved that when it comes to patriotic cinema, he remains an undisputed force at the Indian box office. With Border 2 making a roaring debut over Republic Day 2026 weekend and Gadar 2 rewriting records during Independence Day 2023, the veteran actor has now delivered two of the biggest extended holiday weekends in Hindi cinema history. Released on January 23 during the blockbuster holiday frame, Border 2 opened to a thunderous response across mass belts and single screens, driven by strong patriotic sentiment and nostalgia attached to the iconic 1997 classic. The war drama took a solid start with around 30 crore net, followed by strong growth on Saturday and Sunday. The Republic Day holiday further boosted collections, pushing the 4-day extended holiday weekend well past 150 crores net, including over 100 crores in the traditional Friday to Sunday weekend. Worldwide, the film grossed around 250 crore in just four days holiday frame, emerging as one of the biggest Republic Day openers of all time and Sunny Deol's second-highest opening weekend ever. Released on August 11, 2023, ahead of Independence Day, the Anil Sharma-directed sequel witnessed an unimaginable audience euphoria. The film collected around 135 crore net in its first weekend (Fri-Sun), and with the Independence Day holiday falling mid-week, the 5-day extended opening was around 229 crore net in India. Worldwide, the period action drama delivered 270+ crores gross over the 5-day extended holiday period, which remains Sunny Deol's biggest opening weekend. Gadar 2 eventually went on to collect over 525 crore net in India and 685+ crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time and Sunny Deol's biggest blockbuster by a huge margin.
