Mumbai, July 7, 2021: Dilip Kumar, India's acting icon, has died on Wednesday (July 7) morning at a Mumbai hospital after a prolonged illness. Aged 98, Dilip Kumar was credited with bringing the method style into Hindi cinema and was widely known as the "Tragedy King". ## Dilip Kumar started his acting career with Jwar Bhata in 1944 and acted in 62 films in a career that spanned over five decades. Starring in some of the all-time classic films, Kumar is widely regarded as the finest actor India has ever produced. Some of his best-known films include Aan, Daag, Devdas, Madhumati, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Kranti, Karma, and Ram Aur Shyam.## The legendary actor was awarded the inaugural Filmfare Award for best actor in 1954 for the film "Daag" - a romantic drama film produced and directed by Amiya Chakravarty.
