RIP Dilip Kumar: Film Fraternity Mourns The Demise Of Legendary Actor Dilip Kumar
Mumbai, July 7, 2021: Dilip Kumar, India's acting icon, has died on Wednesday (July 7) morning at a Mumbai hospital after a prolonged illness. Aged 98, Dilip Kumar was credited with bringing the method style into Hindi cinema and was widely known as the "Tragedy King".
Dilip Kumar started his acting career with Jwar Bhata in 1944 and acted in 62 films in a career that spanned over five decades. Starring in some of the all-time classic films, Kumar is widely regarded as the finest actor India has ever produced. Some of his best-known films include Aan, Daag, Devdas, Madhumati, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Kranti, Karma, and Ram Aur Shyam.
The legendary actor was awarded the inaugural Filmfare Award for best actor in 1954 for the film "Daag" - a romantic drama film produced and directed by Amiya Chakravarty. In his career, Dilip Kumar won 8 Filmfare awards and is tied with Shah Rukh Khan for most wins.
