The much-hyped Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt starrer Agneepath was released on 26 January 2012 to a record-breaking initial. The film took the Biggest opening when it was released by beating Salman Khan's Bodyguard. The Karan Malhotra directorial emerged as a Superhit film in the long run. Agneepath also starred Rishi Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in pivotal roles.
One of the landmark films of the Indian cinema Bandit Queen was released exactly on this date in 1996 to a massive Box office earnings. Bandit Queen was based on the true story of the legendary female warrior Phoolan Devi played by Seema Biswas. The film was declared tax-free in Maharashtra from day one. The film was banned in several states despite that it emerged as one of the highly successful movies of 1996. Coincidently, the film clashed with Shah Rukh Khan's English Babu Desi Mam which was a massive Flop film and Bandit Queen won the clash handsomely.
In 2006 it was the turn of Aamir Khan's patriotic hit Rang De Basanti. The Rakesh Omprakash Mehra Directorial was collected massively at the box office and was one of the fewest films to reach the milestone of 50cr during that era. The film continues to enjoy the cult status in today's world.
