Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' To Emerge Highest Indian Grosser of 2023 At The Worldwide Box Office

Mumbai, December 26 - Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has completely owned 2023 upon its comeback after 4 years. King Khan began the year by scoring the biggest blockbuster of his career in the form of Pathaan in January, before returning with an even bigger blockbuster Click here in September, and now, finishing the year with another success in the form of Dunki.

Jawan, directed by Tamil director Atlee, is all set to finish 2023 as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. The action thriller grossed over 1150 crores at the Indian box office, making it the 5th highest-grossing Indian film of all time and the highest for Shah Rukh Khan and director Atlee.



Superstar Prabhas' Salaar and SRK's Dunki, which are currently playing in theatres, were carrying the potential of becoming the highest-grosser of the year but now, both the unlikely to top Jawan though they are well on track to emerge big success for the makers.

With Jawan, Bollywood has regained its lost throne after 2 years. The last Bollywood film to emerge the HGOTY was Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior in 2020. However, 2020 was largely affected by covid-19 pandemic as there were no big movies were scheduled after early March. For a full year, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff's War (2019) was the last Hindi film to emerge as HGOTY.

Jawan is the 5th highest-grosser of the year for Shah Rukh Khan this century, after Mohabbatein (2000), Devdas (2002), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Veer Zaara (2004), Om Shanti Om (2007), and now Jawan (2003). Aamir Khan has also delivered 5 HGOTY this century and tied with SRK for the same.

In 2022, SS Rajamouli's RRR was the highest-grossing (including Japan box office) Indian film of the year while in 2021, it was Allu Arjun's Pushpa - The Rise which took the first spot.
