Talking about its performance at the ticket windows, Kaantha witnessed a moderate run. According to the closing box office reports, the film managed to collect a total of Rs 35.36 Crore at the Worldwide Box Office. In the domestic market, the movie secured an India Net Collection of Rs 22.79 Crore (India Gross: Rs 26.91 Crore). The film also found some love abroad, raking in Rs 8.45 Crore from the Overseas markets.
Interestingly, a breakdown of the domestic numbers shows that the film resonated more with the Tamil audience. The Tamil Net Collection stood at Rs 15.99 Crore, while the Telugu Net Collection wrapped up at Rs 6.8 Crore. While the numbers suggest it wasn't a massive blockbuster, the film has been appreciated for its artistic value and storytelling.
Kaantha is a special project for many reasons. It marks the collaboration of two south Indian powerhouses, as it is produced by Rana Daggubati (Spirit Media) alongside Dulquer Salmaan himself (Wayfarer Films). Written and directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, who previously garnered international acclaim for his documentary The Hunt for Veerappan, the film is a period drama set in the 1950s Madras. The plot revolves around the complexities of human relationships and societal changes during that era, with Dulquer delivering yet another intense performance.
