Box Office: 'Thudarum' Tops 200 Crore Worldwide In 17 Days, Becomes Third Malayalam Movie To Do So
Kochi, May 11 - A day after becoming the highest-grossing film ever in Kerala, superstar Mohanlal's drama thriller Thudarum has topped 200 crores at the worldwide box office and emerged the third Malayalam movie of all-time to do so.
The film has taken just 17 days to pull off the double century, which makes it the second fastest Mollywood title after Empuraan to do so. Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum is estimated to have grossed around 205 crores globally, including 115 crores in India and around 90 crores overseas through the third Sunday (17 days).
Before Thudarum, Mohanlal's Empuraan (267 crore) and Manjummel Boys (241 crores) achieved the milestone of a 200 crore Mollywood grosser. Empuraan, which was released in March this year, is also the highest-grossing Malayalam film and the domestic as well as overseas box office.
The Kerala gross collection of the latest blockbuster is nearing 95 crores, and it will be entering the 100 crores club this week to become the first film to achieve the milestone in the state. The movie is expected to remain strong in the coming days, but it needs to be seen if it can top the top 2 grosser to claim the first spot.
