Mumbai, July 18 - Marvel Studios has another winner in its hands as its latest superhero tentpole Thor: Love and Thunder has crossed $500 million worldwide box office.
The Taika Waititi-directed movie scored $505 million worldwide after making $60 million overseas and $46 million at the domestic (North America) box office on the second weekend. The pace of the movie at the box office, however, is slow as compared to the recent blockbusters, thanks to the average reviews from critics and audiences.
At the North American box office, "Thor 4" has grossed $239.2 million while overseas, it has managed to score $266 million so far. The United Kingdom is leading its international charge with $25 million so far, followed by Australia ($22M), and Korea ($21M). India continues to be the 5th biggest international contributor to the movie.
The Chris Hemsworth-starrer film has grossed 116 crores ($14.5M) in 11 days or through the second Sunday. It is currently the second highest-grossing Hollywood movie at the Indian box office in 2022, after its fellow Marvel movie "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of the Madness" ($20.2M). The word of mouth among the Indian audiences for "Thor 4" is decent, but the brand Thor and Marvel come to the rescue again to deliver another Marvel hit in India.
The stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Waititi, and Russell Crowe, along with "Guardians of the Galaxy" stars in key roles. Portman marks her return to the Thor franchise after missing out on the last two Thor movies.
