Virat Just Keeps Improving, Keeps Getting Better: Rahul Dravid

BY SACNILK

Former India captain and currently the coach of India A and U-19 team, Rahul Dravid heap praised senior team India captain Virat Kohli for taking his game to another level. Dravid credited Kohli for setting the bar to levels so high that were previously thought impossible.## Keep in mind, Virat Kohli is the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs in ODI cricket and also have 41 centuries. He is now just 8 centuries short from all-time leading century getter Sachin Tendulkar and hence, Dravid cited the rapid rate at which Kohli has been shattering records in the ODI format.## "Virat just keeps improving, keeps getting better. He is setting bars and standards that possibly we thought would never be achieved," he said. "Sachin scored 49-50 [49] hundreds in one-day cricket. People thought that this would take a lot of time to achieve, will it be ever achieved? And now Virat is 10 [eight] away from it or close to it.## The India A and U-19 coach also praised Kohli for coming out as a better player every time from the bad patches which have been the hallmark of Kohli's career so far.## "One of the things about Virat is that even if he has a bad tour - it is not that he hasn't had bad tours, he had a disappointing tour of England in 2014, he wasn't as successful in Australia the first time around, but every time he goes back, he goes back as a better player. He sort of reinvents his game to a point where he is constantly improving."## Virat Kohli is currently the number one batsman in both ODI and Test in ICC's ranking. He will lead India in the upcoming ICC World Cup in England and Wales which will start from May 30 with the fixture of the host England and South Africa.## Follow for more...

I Am Really Excited To Share The Dressing Room With Virat - Shubman Gill

BY SACNILK

How life can change within a span of just one year, Shubman Gill is the perfect example of it. Life is moving so fast for him since he put his first step in professional cricket. Around this time last year, Gill was playing Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand and a year later he is all set to begin his international career for his national side at the same place as he has included for the New Zealand tour (ODIs only) starting from January 23.## Well, Shubman Gill is happy and excited and why wouldn't he be as it has nothing sort of dream come true to share a dressing room with his idol Virat Kohli. He hides no emotion to express his excitement as he is going to share dressing with Kohli. He is also hopeful of pushing himself for World Cup spot.## "I am really excited to share the dressing room with Virat. It is a surreal feeling. He is my idol. I like the way he handles pressure. Now, I'll get the chance to learn from him directly. Often I watch Virat's batting videos on YouTube. Whatever I learn, I try and put it into practice in the nets," the youngster told TOI.## "If I do well for my country, then there is a chance that I might even make the 2019 World Cup squad. For that, I will have to make good every opportunity that is given to me," he said. "My preference is the opening slot but if I am given an opportunity in the middle-order, I will try and maximise that chance."## Shubman Gill's selection was on the line as he has been in dream form since India's Under-19 World Cup triumph where he smashed 372 runs in 5 innings at an average of 124 and won the man of the tournament award. Also, his Ranji Trophy form has been stupendous where he has smashed 728 runs in 5 matches at an average of 104. "The Ranji season so far has been great for me. I am in good nick and hitting the ball well. The confidence of having scored runs on a consistent basis is there. Grinding it out in domestic cricket has improved my game enormously," said Gill.## However, Gill thought it was a surprise call-up for him but happy that he got an opportunity to play for his country. "It was a surprise call-up for me. I was just going to sleep and suddenly at around 1 am, I got messages from reporters saying that I have been selected. For the first few seconds, I was in a state of shock. After that, I went and told my father. Initially, I thought this was more of a speculation type of news; but then when I got the call from BCCI, I was over the moon."## The 19-year old also thanked India's A coach Rahul Dravid who coached Under-19 team last year World Cup for the evolution in his game. "I am deeply influenced by Rahul Sir. He has been with me for the last two years - at the U-19 level and then during India 'A' tours. He understands my batting really well. He ensured my batting evolved and got better."## India's Tour of New Zealand will start from January 23 to 10 February where 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is will be played. A Tours Are Good Barometer For The Players And The Selectors To Judge Themselves

BY SACNILK

India A and Under-19 teams' coach legendary Rahul Dravid feels that A team tour before the national team tours is good for the players and the selectors to see whether they can perform or not.## Dravid was speaking to BCCI.tv on Sunday, July 22.## He said that Boards should organise A team tours along with national team tours. He believes that organising such tours could be beneficial for both the team and the players.## India A team is in England since mid-June. They played a tri-series involving West Indies and England Lions before playing 3 unofficial 4-day matches, two against Windies A and an against England Lions. Against England Lions, India's two regular Test batsmen were also the part of the A-side.## "It is a great idea to have shadow tours. It may not be always possible, but whenever it is possible, it is highly beneficial. A lot of players have joined the national side from this team. It also gave an opportunity to Ajinkya Rahane and M Vijay to come down and spend time with us and play a practice game that was competitive and tough.## "Having the India A team tour before the national side opens up many possibilities in terms of preparations for both the sides. It also serves as motivation for many players, for they know when they do well on A tours, they will be picked in the national team," Dravid said.## "We are now organizing more A tours and it gives them an opportunity and also the selectors an opportunity to look at them and rotate the squad. For me, the A tours are a step up from domestic cricket. It is really a good barometer for them and the selectors to see whether they can perform or not.## "If they don't do well it is still a good opportunity to learn and go back to domestic cricket and work on the things they need to. It is a very good buffer to have in between, as you don't get exposed at the Test level. It gives a very good test of where these boys are and an understanding of the skills that need to be worked on both in bowling and batting," he added.## Rahul Dravid talked about the wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who recently received his maiden Test call-up for the first 3-matches against England. He was the part of India A side and played some really good hands in tri-series and the 4-days match. He played against his natural attacking style which was highly demanding in tough England's conditions.## "Rishabh was quite excellent on the tour. He is obviously a very talented player. He showed in three or four innings that he was willing to bat differently. We all know the way he bats. Even in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season when he got over to 900 runs his S/R was 100 plus and we have seen him bat similarly in the IPL as well. On this trip, we challenged him a lot to bat according to the situation. He got a critical 64 (not out) in the one-day final when he was the last recognized batsman and also against West Indies A when he put on a 100-run partnership with Jayant Yadav.## "He showed that he could bat differently. He has the temperament and skills to bat differently. He is always going to be an attacking player but reading of the situation when you are playing red ball cricket is required. We are glad he has been picked in the national team and I hope he takes this maturity into the national team and hopefully builds from thereon," Dravid said.## India is scheduled to play 5-match Test series against England which will kick start from August 1.## For more updates and news, stay tuned to us.## Thanks for the reading.
