Akhanda 2:Will the Boyapati and Balayya combo rewrite history on December 5
The countdown has officially begun. In just a few days, on December 5, 2025, Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Srinu will unleash their latest mass potboiler, Akhanda 2: Thandavam, on the big screen. The duo, known for their high-voltage entertainers, previously delivered the massive blockbuster Akhanda, which not only revived the box office during a tough phase but also attained a cult status. With the sequel carrying immense hype, the biggest question in the trade right now is: Can Akhanda 2 surpass the benchmarks set by its predecessor and NBK’s recent hits?
To understand the magnitude of the target, we must look at the prequel. Akhanda was a massive money-spinner. It opened with a bang, collecting ₹21.20 Crore (India Net) on Day 1. Riding on the spiritual mass wave, the film went on to collect ₹89 Crore in India Net and a gross of ₹103.3 Crore. Its performance overseas was equally impressive, raking in ₹13.7 Crore, taking its total Worldwide Collection to ₹117 Crore. For Akhanda 2 to be termed a bigger hit, it needs to cross these figures comfortably.
Post-Akhanda, God of Masses Balakrishna has been on a consistent winning streak. His Sankranthi release, Veera Simha Reddy, proved his box office pull by grossing a massive ₹130 Crore worldwide against a reported budget of ₹100 Crore. This remains his highest grosser in recent times. He followed it up with Bhagavanth Kesari, which showcased him in a different light. The film was a solid success, collecting ₹114.5 Crore worldwide on a reported budget of ₹90 Crore. Most recently, Daaku Maharaaj continued the momentum, earning ₹125.8 Crore globally against a reported budget of ₹100 Crore. This consistency proves that NBK’s market has expanded significantly.
Here is a look at the box office performance of NBK's recent films:| Movie | Reported Budget | Worldwide Collection |
|---|---|---|
| Akhanda | ₹ 50 Cr | ₹ 117 Cr |
| Veera Simha Reddy | ₹ 100 Cr | ₹ 130 Cr |
| Bhagavanth Kesari | ₹ 90 Cr | ₹ 114.5 Cr |
| Daaku Maharaaj | ₹ 100 Cr | ₹ 125.8 Cr |
With the film hitting cinemas on December 5, the anticipation among the masses is palpable. The combination of Balakrishna and Boyapati Srinu has a proven track record of delivering box office thunderstorms. The biggest question now is whether Akhanda 2: Thandavam can capitalize on the franchise value and surpass the lifetime collections of its predecessor. If the mass centers connect with the roaring action and the spiritual intensity of the narrative, the numbers are bound to see a massive upward trend, potentially setting a new career high for the God of Masses.
