Gangubai Kathiawadi To Premiere At 72nd Berlin International Film Festival

Mumbai, Dec 15, 2021: One of the biggest directors of the Indian film industry Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming Magnum opus film starring Alia Bhatt in a titular character, is set to have its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival next year. ## Regarded as one of the world’s largest public film festivals and an indispensable forum for the global film community, the film gala will be held from February 10 to February 20, 2022. ## Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Gangubai Kathiawadi is a crime-drama, adapted from one of the chapters of noted author Hussain Zaidi's book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. ## Alia Bhatt will also be seen in the upcoming pan-India film helmed by Bahubali director SS Rajamouli's 'RRR'. Ranveer Singh's Movie 83 passed with 'U' certificate and ZERO cuts by the CBFC

Mumbai, Dec 15, 2021: Even before the lockdown has been imposed - the two most awaited Hindi films were 'Sooryavanshi' starring Akshay Kumar and directed by Rohit Shetty and '83' starring Ranveer Singh. ## Sooryavanshi has released on Diwali and did excellent business by bringing in all sections of an audience from masses to class audience. The film is still going well even after premiering on Netflix and is expected to finish its theatrical run with collections of over 196 Cr. ## Now the wait is for 83 which is the 2nd most important film for the Hindi film industry after Sooryavanshi. Recently, according to a source, 83 got a censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). ## “The film has been passed with a clean ‘U’ certificate. In short, it does not have a single cut. The makers anticipated this as it is a period sports drama and nothing is disturbing in the film." ## 83 is based on the Indian cricket team’s unbelievable victory in the 1983 World Cup. Directed by Kabir Khan, the film stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and Deepika Padukone as Kapil’s wife. Mumbai, Dec 14, 2021: Today completes 20 years of one of the historic hits of this generation "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" which was released exactly 20 years ago on 14 December 2001. The ensemble multi-starrer family drama is considered one of the biggest multi-starrer ever made on the Indian-theatrical screens. ## The film featured 3 major stars and although Amitabh Bachchan was past his box office domination days, his popularity remained untouched and he was among the most popular stars of that time. The film also had the current sensation, Hrithik Roshan, the first time sharing the screen with Shah Rukh Khan who was a major established star from the mid-90s. ## Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham had a huge pre-release hype due to its casting and music and as a result, the film took an earth-shattering opening. The film had broken the previous highest opening day record held by Sunny Deol's actioner Indian by more than 30% margin. For Shah Rukh Khan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was his 7th Blockbuster along with Darr(1993), Karan Arjun(1995), Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge(1995), Dil Toh Paagal Hai(1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai(1998), and Mohabbtein(2000). It was 2nd Blockbuster film for Amitabh Bachchan in Character roles after Mohabbtein. ## Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was never seen before phenomenon overseas breaking every existing record by huge margins and setting new records which took many years to get broken. It was the top overseas earner of the year but that just does not describe the euphoria it created overseas. ## Adjusted To Inflation, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham will be more than 350cr with the 2019 average ticket price in domestic business. However, even before these two years, I never thought (about sequels to them). This lineup (for his cop universe and Golmaal franchise) is our old lineup, which we are now clearing.” ## Refuting speculation that Singham 3 revolves around Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, he added, “Even I've heard that the story is out, even though I don't know what the story is – that Singham 3 is being made on Article 370, which even I don't know. We have a basic idea for the story, but I can understand (the reports coming out) because of the rage created by Sooryavanshi, so everyone is talking about Singham. However, there's a lot of time for it...if you see, there's at least one year left for Singham (3) to begin. It won't start before a year (from now. Not only the director but also the next movies of the main stars associated with that film expect the audience to be better than the previous film. ## I have written these lines because the film that we will talk about today had similar expectations from the audience to the distributors. Today we will talk About the film "Shaan", produced by P. Sippy and directed by his son Ramesh Sippy, released on 12 December 1980. ## Everyone knows that "Sholay" was directed by Ramesh Sippy. Perhaps no cinema lover would be unaware of the box office records of "Sholay". This film proved to be a milestone in the Hindi film industry. The film set such records that an era is counted in the Hindi film industry as a pre-Sholay and a post-Sholay era. ## "Sholay" was also a big-budget film and was made in around 3 crores. Yes, G. P. Sippy and Ramesh Sippy knew very well that now after "Sholay", what are the people's expectations from them, so there was a plan to make "Shaan" on a very big level in every department. ### After the record-breaking box office success of "Sholay", this film was also expected to garner the same success as "Sholay". The makers of the film did a lot of publicity before its release. Big posters of the film were put up in many cities with the words "The Greatest Show on Earth". A similar poster was put up at Minerva Cinema in Mumbai. “Shaan” was replacing Sippy’s previous film “Sholay” after 5 years in Minerva cinema. ## This was happening in cinemas in many other cities. The film's villain's tremendous look, tremendous star cast, gorgeous action sequences, melodious music, item song, and tremendous publicity created such a hype that the booking of the film went up to 2 crores 80 lakhs. This was the biggest advance till that time. The film was released and the film initially made bumper collections. The first week's collections of this film in Mumbai were almost 100%. ## But due to poor mouth publicity of the film, the collections slowly came down. The second-week collections were 89% in Mumbai and 78% in the third week. This film was made on Sholay's double budget of about 6 crores. Due to the bumper success of Sippy's previous film Sholay, the All India Rights of this film was bought by the distributors for about 10.75 crores. Ultimately the distributors suffered a loss of about 3 crores. ## The film was re-released in digital print in April 2005 by Sippy to mark its 25th anniversary. Overall, the film earned a net of around 4.25 crores in India. The gross of the film was eight and a half crores and it was the fifth highest-grossing movie of that year. Mumbai, Dec 11, 2021: Today is the birth anniversary of one of the greatest legends the Hindi film industry had ever produced - Dilip Kumar. ## Dilip Kumar started his tinsel town journey in 1944 with Jwar Bhata but his first major success came in 1947 when Jugnu opposite Noor Jehan did excellent business and emerged as the biggest grosser of the year. The success of Jugnu made Dilip Kumar a star. ## Due to the sudden death of the then Box office God - K.L. Sehgal, Dilip Kumar become the Top star in just two years with 2 Back to Back HGOTY - Jugnu (1947) & Shaheed (1948), and from there on this phenomenal star never turned back. It was one horse race till 1961 and this period was filled by Historic Grossers like Andaz (1949), Aan (1952), Naya Daur (1957), and the Biggest of them all Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and Ganga Jamuna (1961). ## Dilip Kumar with Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand formed the 1st Golden troika of Bollywood (The khans came many letters) and it is the former who gave competition to Dilip Kumar. Raj Kapoor literally eclipsed Dilip Kumar in the year 1949 with two back-to-back Bombastic Blockbusters - Andaz and Barsaat. ## Awara in 1951 emerged as the Biggest industry grosser and the competition just heated up on the professional front. But the consistency was missing from the filmography of Raj Kapoor and it was the consistency that made Dilip Kumar bigger than the rest. On the other hand, Dev Anand was going good with hits but huge all-India Blockbusters were missing from his repertoire. ## Dilip Kumar made an astonishing comeback in his 2nd innings and it could be said that no actor was as big as Dilip Kumar comparing only 2nd innings. Dilip Kumar gave some of the Biggest Blockbusters of the 80s Decade in the form of Kranti (1981) which become the highest-grossing film of the year. ## It was followed by Vidhata which was also huge in scale and become HGOTY. Karma (1986) was centered around the thespian and again he gave the highest-grossing film of the year. ## As an Actor and with regards to acting skills Dilip Kumar is the greatest among them all. In fact, this shall be an understatement. It would be worth mentioning that Dilip Kumar was the greatest of all the Bollywood actors to date.
