Shang Chi Review: Marvel Studios' 'Shang Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings' Early Reactions Promise A Super Fun Ride
Los Angeles, August 17, 2021: Marvel Studios' next superhero gem, Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, is getting nearer to its much-awaited outright theatrical release, which is September 3. The Simu Liu fronted is touted to be a historical moment in MCU as it is the first Marvel film to feature an all Asian and Asian-American cast.
Shang Chi, which is making its debut in MCU, was first announced by Marvel Studios at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, where Kevin Feige confirmed Simu Liu would play the Master of Kung Fu. The latest addition to the MCU's growing roster of heroes will rise in this origin story set after Avengers: Endgame when his father Wenwu (Tony Leung), who is the real Mandarin and leader of the Ten Rings, calls him back into action.
It is also the first Marvel movie to get an exclusive theatrical release for 45-days in the pandemic era, unlike Scarlett Johansson-led Black Widow, which debuted on Disney+ premiere access and in theaters on the same day. Disney CEO Bob Chapek, however, has called Shang Chi's release an "experiment" amid the covid-19 pandemic, which got a response from the lead actor Simu Liu, who didn't seem too pleased with CEO's comment.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi alongside Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Leung in prominant roles. Additionally, Tim Roth reprises his role as the Abomination from The Incredible Hulk (2008) and will be seen fighting with Shang Chi in the film.
Marvel Studios held the world premiere of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Los Angeles on Monday, August 16. The cast, crew, and many other celebrities, as well as select entertainment journalists, attended the first showing of the highly anticipated MCU movie. While the full reviews are yet to come, those who watched the movie during the premiere, were able to share their thoughts on the film. Shang Chi is also releasing in India on the same day as the USA. Check out the critics reviews of this Marvel tentpole -

Terrific #Theatrical experience! Spectacular action blocks like one aboard a moving bus in the streets of #SanFrancisco & many more. #TonyLeung is terrific as the antagonist & #BenKingsley in a comic cameo is a hoot! One of #MCU’s best in recent times. pic.twitter.com/fVxdAxFEmY
#ShangChi is awesome. This movie hits all that Marvel does well (pacing, humor, character) and adds action like we’ve never seen from the MCU before! 👏🏻👏🏻

Lots of people are about to have a new favorite Marvel hero.
Darker than expected. Loads of fun. Integral to MCU Phase 4!👀 pic.twitter.com/YI3jkwLuq6
#ShangChi is an absolute triumph, unexpectedly spiritual and emotionally complex, with some of the very best action in the MCU. @SimuLiu is your new favorite Avenger and the movie’s myriad influences (everything from Jackie Chan to Hayao Miyazaki) pay off big time). Astounding.🐉 pic.twitter.com/72Yubnb4KV

#ShangChi is such a personal, family story at its core. That’s when it’s at its best.

The third act is full of surprises but sometimes is a little crazier than is needed. Ultimately delivers epic action and the intimate moments to land. Big MCU stuff.
Can’t wait to watch again! pic.twitter.com/4zy7HiF5EO
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings is PHENOMENAL. Get hyped. Even fight scene/action sequence is better than the last. @SimuLiu fully embraces the marvel superhero role. Amazing imagery. Killer soundtrack. You’ll want to see this on the big screen. #shangchi

Phase 4 is continuing to be awesome! pic.twitter.com/Ppp3eWxhT7
#ShangChi is unlike any superhero movie you've ever seen before. It's full of heart, badass martial arts action, and Shang-Chi isn't your typical superhero. I can't stress how awesome the movie is. pic.twitter.com/L3DcYDkGuM

#ShangChi is fantastic. It's full of INCREDIBLE, beautifully choreographed fight scenes and full of badass women. Get ready to know Simu Liu's name if you don't already. Marvel has another hit on its hands. pic.twitter.com/3efV1kzJ7O

Just watched #ShangChi at the world premiere, and wow, I was completely wrong about this film. Simu Liu is extremely charismatic as our main hero, and The Mandarin is one of the best MCU villains. The fight scenes are the best parts about it tho. Can’t wait for more of this hero! pic.twitter.com/R34ujqvmKu

Shang-Chi is a blast! Marvel delivers a wuxia/fantasy/superhero movie mash-up that’s a lot more fun than how the trailers have been selling it. Exciting action, great cast (Tony Leung rules, of course). This is the MCU back doing its thing on a high level again. #ShangChi pic.twitter.com/eW9bxF9QNB

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings earns the title of the best superhero film of 2021 so far. The action scenes are simply spectacular, especially the train & skyscraper scene. Best martial arts I’ve seen in a long time. Simu Liu & Awkwafina are terrific. #ShangChi pic.twitter.com/M0EEMJqKu3

#ShangChi was INCREDIBLE!

So many thoughts. That ending was wild. Best Action we’ve ever seen in the MCU. My brain is scrambling right now!
#ShangChi is probably one of the greatest films i have ever seen. It is something the audience are not expecting that will blow everyone's mind. Marvel Studios did it once again and sure is a win for the Asians. The post credits scenes sets up the future of the MCU. pic.twitter.com/ijBc8Lvk0X
