Marvel Studios' 'Shang-Chi' Sequel Is Officially In The Works With Original Director Destin Daniel Cretton

Los Angeles, December 6 - Marvel Studios' 2021 blockbuster "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" is officially getting its sequel with original director Destin Daniel Cretton is returning to perform director's duty once again. The filmmaker has entered into an exclusive multi-year overall deal with Disney companies Marvel Studios and Hulu's Onyx Collective.
As part of the deal, Destin is already in development with Marvel Studios on a new MCU series for Disney+ apart from the "Shang-Chi" sequel. The Simu Liu-fronted debuted earlier in September this year and became the biggest blockbuster Hollywood story at the domestic box office with $224.5 million gross, helping its global haul to finish $432 million.
"Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we're thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can't wait to get started", said Marvel president Kevin Feige.
Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, starring Simu Liu in the title role alongside Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung, is the history maker film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by getting led by an Asian actor, and mostly Asian cast.
"Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn't be more excited about Tara's vision for Onyx Collective. I can't wait to explore new stories & build new worlds with this community", said director Cretton.
