Kiara Advani: My roles have been different from each other

Mumbai, March 5 (IANS) Actress Kiara Advani's photograph on Dabboo Ratnani's 2020 celebrity calendar took the internet by storm just a few days ago. However, the photograph invited its share of controversy, with charges of plagiarism being leveled against the concept. Soon after, memes took over the internet mocking the photographer as well as the actress.## Kiara, of course, insists that memes don't affect her, and claims she considers them to be a form of flattery! The actress in fact revealed that she has also shared some of the memes!## "It is so funny and so flattering. I had even posted some of the memes that went viral. They were really funny. It's okay. I think it's just a form of flattery," Kiara told IANS.## On the work front, Kiara has a busy year ahead. She is all set for the Netflix film "Guilty".## Talking about her role in the film, the actress shared: "I play a character called Nanki in 'Guilty'. She is an extremely layered and complex character. She is constantly wearing a mask. She is very far from who I am as a person. It was very interesting to understand the different shades of this character and get inside the skin of it."## "My characters in 'Kabir Singh', 'Good Newwz' and 'Guilty have all been very different from the other. Let's hope people like this ('Guilty') as much as they loved me in those roles as well," she added.## Do platforms like Netflix provide a better opportunity for actors who tend to get typecast in Bollywood? "I think today the lines are blurring. I remember after watching 'Sanju', I liked Vicky's (Kaushal) character as much as I liked the character of Sanju. The role which you are playing should excite you as an actor. Even the platforms are blurring. A mainstream actor like me is also doing a feature film on a platform like Netflix. I think that's a great thing. A change is happening," Kiara replied.## Directed by Ruchi Narain, "Guilty" stars Kiara Advani, Akansha Ranjan Kapur, Taher Shabbir, and Gurfateh Singh Pirzada. The film releases on Netflix on March 6.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.

Guneet Monga: We women fix each other's crown, we don't compete

Mumbai, March 4 (IANS) Whether her recent collaboration with female film directors as Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, Smrutika Panigrahi, and Vijayeta Kumar or picking up a tabooed subject like menstruation, Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga is constantly conveying her belief on how the female workforce can bring about change in the portrayal of women within the entertainment space.## Film production was predominantly ruled by the male, but Monga feels change is coming because of more and more women are joining the workforce behind the camera.## "I would like to mention that we women are not a competition to each other. We fix each other's crowns, so when we come together to tell stories, the representation of women on screen changes automatically," Monga told IANS.## The role of women has changed in society, she reminds. "Gone are the days where women were told that the duty of a woman is to handle domestic chaos and that she cannot handle finance or the hardcore professional world. As a film producer, I feel responsible for not portraying women in a regressive manner because that is not the society we wish to live in. Rather, we rather intend to change the perspective. We need to change the lens through which women were seen so far. Of course, the involvement of more women in the workforce adds to that," she said.## Citing the example of her recent collaboration "Zindagi In Shorts, Guneet said: "I am very proud of the fact that in the anthology 'Zindagi In Shorts' that I have produced for the Flipkart app, I have worked with three female directors -- Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, Smrutika Panigrahi, and Vijayeta Kumar. I am working with another female director Sudha Kongara for my Tamil film production 'Soorarai Pottru'."## "Soorarai Pottru" features Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, Jackie Shroff, Mohan Babu, and Paresh Rawal among others.## Sharing insight of "Soorarai Pottru", she said: "It is a very important story of a farmer who made India's first-ever low-cost airline for common people to fly. It is an inspiring story and it required a different level of conviction and care to bring life to the narrative. Sudha has done a good job."## The film is scheduled to release on April 20.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.

Rakul Preet on Women's Day: Why should we celebrate woman just one day?

Mumbai, March 4 (IANS) Actress Rakul Preet Singh reveals she will have a working Holi this year.## 'I am shooting on the day of Holi', she informed when asked about her Holi plans, before getting nostalgic about how she spent the day of colors as a child. "We used to play a very nasty Holi in my childhood. People would throw eggs on me! I stopped playing Holi in class IX or X because you become aware of how much water is wasted. It's not worth it and it damages the environment. Since then, I've only played dry Holi, I meet my family and friends and eat a lot of sweets and other dishes," she recalled.## Does she have the Holi sweet tooth? "I used to like gujiyas a lot but now I can't eat gujiyas due to my fitness regime. I can't play with water and colors so, I prefer working on a festival," she replied while interacting with the media at the 8th edition of Cheryl's Femina Ms Stylista West 2020.## Sharing her thought on International Women's Day, which falls on March 8, she said: "I don't believe in Women's Day. We don't celebrate Men's Day, so why do we have to celebrate women on just one day? I feel we should celebrate womanhood every single day. I feel we should respect women around us and that's the most important thing. That way, we will celebrate womanhood in a far better way."## Meanwhile, Rakul Preet has a busy year ahead, after impressing all with her roles in "Marjaavaan" and "De De Pyaar De". She confirms signing filmmaker Indra Kumar's yet-untitled film, which apparently co-stars her "De De Pyaar De" co-star Ajay Devgn and "Aiyaary" co-actor Sidharth Malhotra. Shooting for the film will start in April, the actress said.## That apart, she will be seen alongside John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez in "Attack", will also feature in Kamal Haasan's "Indian 2" and also stars in Kaashvie Nair's untitled project this year, apart from a project down South.## "There is the (untitled) film that I am shooting with Arjun (Kapoor). So, I am shuttling between that film, 'Attack' and 'Indian 2'. After that, I will get into a film in which I am working with Indra (Kumar) Ji in April, once I wrap up shooting of these two films," Rakul Preet revealed.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.

COVID-19 scare: B'wood plays 'wait and watch'; stars cancel multi-city tours

New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) Films are being delayed, stars are skipping multi-city tours, there are appeals to postpone big franchises and tours are being rescheduled. These are some of the coronavirus scare effects, with the deadly virus fast turning into a potential threat for showbiz the world over.## With the global film industry facing losses of over $5 billion, will the coronavirus scare have a trickle-down effect on India as well, particularly Bollywood?## The anxiety around the outbreak is growing with people deciding to stay away from places of large public gathering. This makes cinema halls and lives show arenas a natural target. In India, does it signal a slump for the entertainment industry?## Bollywood has decided to wait and watch on stalling release of films, although our stars are significantly canceling multi-city promotional tours.## "It is not a very aggravated situation in India right now, but people are getting the jitters. I am sure it will be controlled soon. If it spreads further, it will affect collections and cinemas. I think at the moment distributors and producers must be thinking of insuring their films. If we talk about moviegoing, I think the effect is coming in gradually because people will have reservations about going out," trade analyst Rajesh Thadani told IANS.## Globally so far, a total of 90,893 cases of COVID-19 infections and 3,110 deaths, mostly in China, have been reported. In India, at least 25 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported until Wednesday.## Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor's "Baaghi 3" is slated to hit the theatres on March 6, and its box office performance will give a glimpse of how the moviegoing audience is reacting to the outbreak in India.## The season is crucial for Bollywood after all, with several biggies lined up. The fear of coronavirus could ruin box office takings of Irrfan Khan's "Angrezi Medium" (March 13), Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi" (March 24), Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor's "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar" (March 20) and the Ranveer Singh-starrer "83" (April 10).## Other big films slated in the first quarter include the Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer "Gulabo Sitabo", Varun Dhawan-Sara Ali Khan's "Coolie No.1", Salman Khan's action drama "Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai", Akshay Kumar's "Laxmmi Bomb", "Bunty Aur Babli 2" and Kangana Ranaut's "Thalaivi".## "Haathi Mere Saathi", "Gunjan Saxena", "Roohi Afzana", "Ludo" and "Chehre" are also lined up in the first half.## Bollywood might be waiting to understand the impact of the virus outbreak on its business, but stars are not taking a chance. Many have been skipping travel to multiple cities for the promotion of their films -- a reason why the "Baaghi 3" team and the "Angrezi Medium" cast probably skipped coming to Delhi.## "There is nothing to panic as of now. People are vigilant because no one wants to take a risk. Having said that, I don't think as of now it is on the level where the entertainment industry will be affected. It is a little too far for anyone to get scared thinking about its effect on the entertainment industry. It has impacted internationally and scared away people across the globe," trade expert Girish Johar told IANS.## "There are big blockbusters slated for release in the upcoming months and we are hopeful that the situation will improve over a course of time, allowing consumers to visit their favorite cinemas. At this point all our focus is on taking preventive measures and offering a clean and disinfected environment," said Devang Sampat, CEO at Cinepolis India.## Cinema halls insist they are working towards giving audiences a safe environment.## Raj Kumar Mehrotra, general manager at Delite Cinema, told IANS: "There is no impact at the moment but if it spreads then it will have an impact. We are taking precautionary measures to ensure safety."## "We are on an alert and keeping a close watch on the situation. Routine facility management protocol ensures all our cinema premises are up to appropriate hygiene standards. We are working promptly towards creating ample awareness amongst our teams with regards to the symptoms and precautionary measures to deal with coronavirus," read an official statement by INOX.## According to hollywoodreporter.com, analysts believe COVID-19 could already result in a loss of at least $5 billion from diminished box office revenue and impacted production. It has started having an impact on moviegoing worldwide, particularly in China, South Korea, Italy, and even Japan.## Earlier this week, James Bond fans came together to urge the makers to delay the release of the upcoming film of the franchise, "No Time To Die". It is scheduled to release in April. Disney is also likely to delay the release of its live-action "Mulan" remake in China.## Along with Bond, "Black Widow", "Wonder Woman", "F9: The Fast Saga" and "Top Gun: Maverick" is the most speculated films coming from Hollywood in the first half of 2020.## Box office slowdown can mean more profit for streaming platforms, and it will be interesting to witness how they seize the moment.## At a time Hollywood is taking serious note of coronavirus and a shadow of doubt having fallen on major sporting events such as Tokyo Olympics and Euro football, even Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have declared they will stay away from Holi Milan parties. Bollywood, it seems, is yet to understand the gravity of the situation.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.

In fact, when we meet each other on the red carpet or at some music event, we say 'I love this song of yours'. We do concerts together sometimes. There are multiple artists at the same concert, so we mingle and talk. There are genuine compliments that come to each other, so I think there is no music rivalry that exists among musicians. It's a very healthy way of working," claimed the "Ghungroo" hitmaker, while speaking to IANS.## She adds that she enjoys collaborating with other artists. "I love collaborations. I would love to collaborate with a rapper now. It's high time to do something, so I would love to do that," said the artist.## Shilpa recently joined hands with sitar player Anoushka Shankar and singer-songwriter-cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson to create the song "Those words".## "I have learned from every collaboration of mine and it's such an emotional journey when you interact with another artist. This is what it's become with the song, and you learn so much. When I was there in the UK, I was looking at how everyone works. You end up learning so many things just by observing other musicians and seeing them at work. It's very important to not just do your part and get out, but also spent that time," she said.## "Those words" is one of her non-film songs. "In these cases, you have to figure out a lot of things and judge, and take a call on your own because there is no external force telling you what to do, so in that way, there is more involved as an artist. You pretty much take a call on a lot of things on your own, so that's something different working on a non-film song but the kind of composers we have in today's time, the music scene... I think they are so many who are open to singers coming in and trying to do new things with the song and you know, having more inputs and a little additional involvement in the song," said Shilpa.## "I love that about every composer we have today urge us to try out new things and that's amazing," added the singer, who made her Bollywood debut back in 2007 with the unforgettable "Tose Naina" number in the film, "Anwar".## Is she planning to turn a composer someday? "I don't know. Thank you for asking me that question. It puts me to that thought process. I will think about it and I will try and compose one song at least someday," said the "Khuda Jaane" hitmaker.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.

'Catfight is outdated, sisterhood is the new cool'

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Kajol, Shruti Hassan, and Neena Kulkarni, actresses belonging to different generations have worked together in the short film 'Devi'. They insist that real empowerment will happen when women unite and share sisterhood, and catfight becomes an outdated concept.## For Shruti, sisterhood is an important aspect of empowerment. "I think the sisterhood is not strong enough, and that is one of the important aspects of empowerment. Even in the film, these women start off with fights and arguments, but in the end, they unite because the root cause is the same -- all of them are victims. Why do we have to deal with something as rape to support and stand by each other. If we want to bring about a change, we have to celebrate sisterhood. Instead of thinking that another successful woman is my competition, we should celebrate each other's achievements and stand by each other. The argument is a healthy practice but hatred is not and that should be stopped by celebrating sisterhood."## Directed by Priyanka Banerjee, "Devi" revolves around a group of rape victims, from different socio-economic strata, and how they unite to fight a heinous crime like rape.## Shruti added: "Women are facing atrocities and discrimination worldwide, and unless we stand by each other we will never be able to bring the bigger change. We have to understand that crime like rape and other social discrimination is happening on women beyond age, caste and social status. So, why can't we just unite beyond caste, age, and socioeconomic status?"## While gender-based discrimination has been happening for ages, it is also true that women often engage in catfights.## "We are often asked questions about how my bonding was with a female co-star or if there were any catfights. Can I just say, catfights are too outdated and childish! Sisterhood is the new cool. We should upgrade to that," replied Shruti.## Kajol, who portrays a rape-victim housewife in "Devi", felt: "Catfight is imposed in our mind by society to create insecurity among us, women. I find it is nonsense. When it comes to fights and arguments among women, I would say it is only natural that no two human beings have to get along with each other. Not everyone has to be my friend. That does not mean the person is my enemy or hater. It is high time we women unite to celebrate sisterhood because catfights are outdated."## The film also features Neha Dhupia, Mukta Barve, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi, Yashaswini Dayama and Shivani Raghuvanshi.## Neena Kulkarni agreed: "Humein insecure feel karaya jata hai (we are made to feel insecure) and we were conditioned to look at another happy woman as competition. I have been working in the entertainment industry for the last 46 years, and I have friends here who stand by each other. I think the so-called 'bromance' and 'brotherhood' is a new concept. We women have always been standing, celebrating and fighting together against all the atrocity."## Seconding her point Shruti said: "I think generalizing is dangerous. One should not think all men are bad and all women are my competition. If I count you as my rival because of your gender, then that is discrimination, too. I can dislike an individual based on her opinion, habit or just the fact that we do not get along. But that has nothing to play on that 'women are women's worse enemy' theory. In my personal life, I do not 'like' or 'dislike' people based on gender."## Neena mentioned: "Also, two women arguing on a matter is not a catfight. Do we name it the same way when two men fight?"## "Devi" released on Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films' YouTube channel on Monday. The film is produced by Electric Apples Entertainment.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

Rishi Kapoor: Delay in Nirbhaya hangings ridiculous

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor used the popular 'Tareekh pe tareekh' dialogue from the 1993 film 'Damini' to slam the Delhi Court judgment to defer the execution of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case. ## On Monday, a court in Delhi again deferred the execution of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case, which was slated for Tuesday, till further orders. ## Rishi finds the delay ridiculous, and he took to Twitter to express his view with a post. ## "Nirbhaya case. Tareekh pe tareekh, tareekh pe tareekh, tareekh pe tareekh - ‘Damini'. Ridiculous," he tweeted. It may be recalled, "Damini" starring Rishin Kapoor and Sunny Deol with Meenakshi Sheshadri in the title role, was a courtroom drama that is fought out in the aftermath of the rape of a young domestic help by a group of influential boys. ## Sunny Deol, who fights the case to ensure justice for the dead victim, mouths the "Tareek pe tareek" dialogue in frustration and anger even as the defense manages to bank on one loophole after the other to keep deferring the verdict. ## In the Nirbhaya case, the four convicts -- Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma, and Akshay Kumar -- were scheduled to be hanged at 6 am on March 3. ## Pawan Gupta, the last of the four convicts to seek legal remedy or file a mercy petition, had moved a fresh application seeking a stay on the hanging, as his mercy plea is pending before the President after the court dismissed their application seeking a stay on hanging earlier on Monday. ## He filed the mercy petition after his curative petition was rejected by Supreme Court on Monday morning. ## The case pertains to the gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old girl, christened Nirbhaya by the media, in the Capital in December 2012. Six people, including the four convicts and a juvenile, were named as accused. ## Ram Singh, the sixth accused, allegedly committed suicide in Tihar jail days after the trial began in the case. The juvenile was released in 2015 after spending three years in a correctional home. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

Why Gulshan Devaiah signed up Radhika Apte's directorial debut

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Actor Gulshan Devaiah says he decided to do the short film 'Sleepwalkers' because it came with an opportunity to work with Radhika Apte and Shahana Goswami. ## "Sleepwalkers" marks the directorial debut of Radhika Apte, and the actress has also scripted it. The film is produced by Abhisekh Chaubey, Honey Trehan and Lalit Sharma. ## "I generally prefer working on long formats such as features or a series but it was impossible for me to pass because it's my dear friend Radhika's directorial debut and also an opportunity for me to work with Shahana Goswami, whose work I greatly admired," Gulshan said. ## For Gulshan, "Sleepwalkers" is a commentary on society, class, nature, lack of balance and greed. ## "The shoot was a challenging schedule but it was well worth my while as it was a very satisfying experience to work with Radhika and Shahana. My on-screen chemistry with Shahana is so good and I'm now greedy to do more work with her.
