Los Angeles, April 18 (IANS) "Joker" star Joaquin Phoenix was almost cast as Batman way back in the nineties.## After George Clooney's 1997 outing as the caped crusader in "Batman & Robin" flopped, "Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky was tipped to direct a new Batman film, and Phoenix was his first choice for the role.## Aronofsky said that he wanted to re-invent Batman and suggested Phoenix as the leading role, reports aceshowbiz.com.## "The studio wanted Freddie Prinze Jr. and I wanted Joaquin Phoenix. It was a different time. The Batman I wrote was definitely a way different type of taking than they ended up making," Aronofsky tells Empire of his plans for "Batman: Year One".## He added: "The Batman that was out before me was 'Batman & Robin', the famous one with the nipples on the Batsuit, so I was really trying to undermine that, and reinvent it. That's where my head went."## However, Aronofsky's vision of Batman never got realized because the project never went into production.## Nearly a decade later after "Batman & Robin", Christopher Nolan would revive the caped crusader with "Batman Begins" in 2005, the first of his genre-bending "Dark Knight" series of blockbusters. Chris Hemsworth: Didn't know Marvel films were so popular in India

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) Actor Chris Hemsworth found shooting in India "overwhelming" because of the positivity and enthusiasm that he experienced while filming the upcoming Netflix film "Extraction" in the country.## "I loved shooting in India. The people were incredible. I didn't realize how popular the Marvel films were in India. So that was, at times, overwhelming," Hemsworth told IANS during a special video call before the release of his Netflix movie.## "There was such positivity and enthusiasm for all of us and our crew… During shooting, we had hundreds and thousands of people on certain days lining up on the streets and up on top of bridges and in buildings, you know, after everyone takes, cheering and applauding. I've never experienced anything like it. And as I said, I have such fond memories of India and the people there," he added while recounting his time in India.## Hemsworth shot for the Netflix film in India in 2018. He shot in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The "Thor" star was scheduled to be in Mumbai on March 16 to promote the film that has been shot in India. The promotional tour was called off due to the global coronavirus outbreak.## Earlier in an interview to IANS, Hemsworth, whose daughter is named India, revealed the reason behind naming his daughter after the country.## "My wife (Elsa Pataky) spent a lot of time in India and that was where the name originally came from," Hemsworth said in that interview, adding: "I love the place and the people. The game allows users to buy "diamonds" and go on virtual shopping trips with celebrities, reports variety.com.## Gomez has alleged that one of the characters is based on her, adding that she has never agreed to have her likeness used in any mobile game.## The suit stated: "Defendants never requested, consulted, or informed Gomez regarding the use of any of her publicity rights in connection with the game. Los Angeles, April 13 (IANS) Filmmaker James Gunn says his anticipated films "Guardians of the Galaxy 3" and "The Suicide Squad" won't be delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis all over the world.## Gunn opened about the status of the films while answering fans' questions on his Twitter account, reports variety.com.## He said the new "Suicide Squad" film, for Warner Bros. and DC Comics, is scheduled to release as planned on August 6, 2021.## "Right now there's no reason for ‘The Suicide Squad' release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting and set up editing from our homes (due to a post-production team and studio with foresight) before quarantine," Gunn said.## He gave a similar update for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", which does not have a release date yet.## "Right now the plans with ‘Vol. 3' are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus," he said.## Gunn is excited about his version of "The Suicide Squad", which stars Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi, Idris Elba, John Cena, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian and Daniela Melchior.## "Guardians of the Galaxy" director Gunn wrote the second "Suicide Squad" installment, which tells the story of a group of super-villains forced by the government to work for good and save mankind. Katy Perry says 'American Idol' episodes will get 'very creative' amid lockdown

Los Angeles, April 13 (IANS) Singer Katy Perry addressed the future of her music-based show 'American Idol" while chatting with her fans online.## She spoke to her fans on Sunday, going live on Facebook minutes ahead of the new episode of "American Idol", reports etonline.com.## "What's going on with the show since we're all still in quarantine?" Perry said, reading a question from one viewer. "Well, I think that we're all gonna have to be very creative."## "I know that we're going to get really creative and you'll just have to be tuning into that creativity that we are probably going to create from our individual homes," Perry said, sounding somewhat unsure of how to answer. "We'll see how this goes."## When asked if she planned on performing on the show this season, Perry said: "I hope so! I'd love to."## Perry also spoke about how she has been doing staying at home and self-isolating amid the coronavirus outbreak. "It's up and down. I'm sure like everyone else," she said. "Just think of the things to be grateful for and that puts your mind in a good place."## "I love you. I miss you guys. It's a crazy time. This is a weird and wild time and I'm sure a lot of you are going through a lot of emotions," she added. Tim Brooke-Taylor dies of coronavirus

London, April 12 (IANS) Comedian-actor Tim Brooke-Taylor has died after contracting coronavirus, his agent said. He was 79 years old.## Brooke-Taylor was a regular panelist on BBC Radio 4's "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" for over 40 years and became popular with "The Goodies" on TV in the 1970s.## Brooke-Taylor began his acting career at Cambridge University.## Brooke-Taylor was even part of the TV show "At Last The 1948 Show", where he starred alongside John Cleese and Graham Chapman.## "It has come as devastating news to hear that Tim has succumbed to this dreadful virus an" especially when we all thought he was recovering. Tim was a delightful man and never anything but great company," said comedian Jack Dee, who hosts "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", reports thesun.co.uk.## "It has always been one of the great joys of my career to work with someone who was part of the comedy landscape of my childhood.## "I can't bear the thought of introducing 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' without being able to say 'And on my right, Tim Brooke-Taylor'.## Tim brought a unique quality to Clue. He was a proper team player, very generous as a performer, never egotistical and always more than delighted to set himself up as the b**t of the joke.## "For me, his great comedy gift was playing the injured innocent and he did it with brilliance and a characteristic lightness of touch.## "It's always heartbreaking to lose a loved one, but these times have created the cruelest of circumstances for that to happen in and my thoughts are with his wife Christine and all his family," Dee said.## Comedy writer Simon Blackwell tweeted: "Heartbreaking news about Tim Brooke-Taylor. Sophie Turner hopes to return to the 'X-Men' franchise

Los Angeles, April 12 (IANS) Singer Rihanna seems to have a bigger goal in mind than thinking of her new album.## As part of the singer's "Fenty Social Club" party on Instagram Live, she told her fans and followers watching her at home to not bring up the album, reports eonline.com.## "If one of y'all ask me about the album one more time when I'm trying to save the world, unlike y'all president... on sight," the 32-year-old said during the live-stream, taking a jab at US President Donald Trump.## While the Grammy winner hasn't given fans a specific date for when she might release new music, she recently said in an interview that she is "aggressively working on music".## "I don't want my albums to feel like themes," she had told a magazine. "There are no rules. There's no format. Tom Hanks hosts show at home after COVID-19 diagnosis in March

Los Angeles, April 12 (IANS) Hollywood actor Tom Hanks returned to the small screen for the first time after he tested positive for the coronavirus in March. He said he and his wife are doing great.## The 63-year-old served as host for the first-ever "Saturday Night Live at Home" episode, reports people.com.## Hanks opened the show with a "Tiger King" reference, speaking to the camera from his Los Angeles home. "Hey all you cool cats and kittens," he said.## "It's me, your old pal. Don't be afraid, this shaved head was just for a movie. My hair is growing back very slowly," Hanks shared, referencing the Baz Luhrmann-directed film about Elvis Presley he was filming in Australia, where he was self-quarantining.## "Hey, it's good to be here, though it is also very weird to be here. Hosting Saturday Night Live from home. It is a strange time to try and be funny, but trying to be funny is SNLas whole thing. So we thought, what the heck? Let's give it a shot," Hanks said.## "But why me as host? Well, for one, I have been the celebrity canary of the coal mine for the coronavirus, and ever since being diagnosed, I have been more like America's dad than ever before since no one wants to be around me very long and I make people uncomfortable," he said.## His monologue was not one without a joke.## "Now I was diagnosed back in March with the coronavirus. I was first diagnosed down in Australia. Now the folks in Australia are fantastic in every way but they use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit when they take your temperature," he said.## "So, when they come in and they say, 'You're 36,' which seemed very bad to me. But turns out 36 is fine, turns out 38 is bad. So basically it's how Hollywood treats female actors."## Speaking about his quarantine attire as of late, Hanks said he had some help from his wife Rita Wilson. "But now my wife and I are doing fine, doing great. We're hunkered down like all of us should be. In fact, this suit, this is the first time I've worn anything other than sweatpants since March 11.
