Shilpa Rao claims there is no rivalry among musicians today Bollywood

Shilpa Rao claims there is no rivalry among musicians today

New Delhi, March 3 (IANS) Singer Shilpa Rao has been in the industry for long and she insists there is no rivalry among musicians.## Whispers of bitter feuds and backstabbing politics among singers and musicians in the Indian music industry have been rampant since time immemorial, what with so many artistes vying to score hits. Shilpa, however, insists she has never felt threatened by any singer.## "All the musicians are very friendly, and caring like a family. We tease and have fun with each other. In fact, when we meet each other on the red carpet or at some music event, we say 'I love this song of yours'. We do concerts together sometimes. There are multiple artists at the same concert, so we mingle and talk. There are genuine compliments that come to each other, so I think there is no music rivalry that exists among musicians. Everyone is doing their own thing and nobody shies away from complimenting each other. It's a very healthy way of working," claimed the "Ghungroo" hitmaker, while speaking to IANS.## She adds that she enjoys collaborating with other artists. "I love collaborations. I would love to collaborate with a rapper now. It's high time to do something, so I would love to do that," said the artist.## Shilpa recently joined hands with sitar player Anoushka Shankar and singer-songwriter-cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson to create the song "Those words".## "I have learned from every collaboration of mine and it's such an emotional journey when you interact with another artist. This is what it's become with the song, and you learn so much. When I was there in the UK, I was looking at how everyone works. You end up learning so many things just by observing other musicians and seeing them at work. It's very important to not just do your part and get out, but also spent that time," she said.## "Those words" is one of her non-film songs. "In these cases, you have to figure out a lot of things and judge, and take a call on your own because there is no external force telling you what to do, so in that way, there is more involved as an artist. You pretty much take a call on a lot of things on your own, so that's something different working on a non-film song but the kind of composers we have in today's time, the music scene... I think they are so many who are open to singers coming in and trying to do new things with the song and you know, having more inputs and a little additional involvement in the song," said Shilpa.## "I love that about every composer we have today urge us to try out new things and that's amazing," added the singer, who made her Bollywood debut back in 2007 with the unforgettable "Tose Naina" number in the film, "Anwar".## Is she planning to turn a composer someday? "I don't know. Thank you for asking me that question. It puts me to that thought process. I will think about it and I will try and compose one song at least someday," said the "Khuda Jaane" hitmaker.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.

I try to pick up roles that help me increase my bandwidth as an actor. My role in ‘Marzi' should definitely add value to my resume. As an actor, it can be unnerving at times to enter a completely new space but the storyline of the show is so intriguing and topical that I just wanted to be a part of it."## Aahana added: "I loved the script of ‘Marzi' the minute I read it. The story is different, it is powerful and it is something that I have never done before. It's a brave, important conversation, and it must be spoken about. The digital era has brought so many opportunities for actors, and so many new stories and concepts to experiment with."## Along with a diverse catalog, Voot Select will bring an array of select originals as well -- one every month. 'Catfight is outdated, sisterhood is the new cool' Bollywood

'Catfight is outdated, sisterhood is the new cool'

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Kajol, Shruti Hassan, and Neena Kulkarni, actresses belonging to different generations have worked together in the short film 'Devi'. They insist that real empowerment will happen when women unite and share sisterhood, and catfight becomes an outdated concept.## For Shruti, sisterhood is an important aspect of empowerment. "I think the sisterhood is not strong enough, and that is one of the important aspects of empowerment. Even in the film, these women start off with fights and arguments, but in the end, they unite because the root cause is the same -- all of them are victims. Why do we have to deal with something as rape to support and stand by each other. If we want to bring about a change, we have to celebrate sisterhood. Instead of thinking that another successful woman is my competition, we should celebrate each other's achievements and stand by each other. The argument is a healthy practice but hatred is not and that should be stopped by celebrating sisterhood."## Directed by Priyanka Banerjee, "Devi" revolves around a group of rape victims, from different socio-economic strata, and how they unite to fight a heinous crime like rape.## Shruti added: "Women are facing atrocities and discrimination worldwide, and unless we stand by each other we will never be able to bring the bigger change. We have to understand that crime like rape and other social discrimination is happening on women beyond age, caste and social status. So, why can't we just unite beyond caste, age, and socioeconomic status?"## While gender-based discrimination has been happening for ages, it is also true that women often engage in catfights.## "We are often asked questions about how my bonding was with a female co-star or if there were any catfights. Can I just say, catfights are too outdated and childish! Sisterhood is the new cool. We should upgrade to that," replied Shruti.## Kajol, who portrays a rape-victim housewife in "Devi", felt: "Catfight is imposed in our mind by society to create insecurity among us, women. I find it is nonsense. When it comes to fights and arguments among women, I would say it is only natural that no two human beings have to get along with each other. Not everyone has to be my friend. That does not mean the person is my enemy or hater. It is high time we women unite to celebrate sisterhood because catfights are outdated."## The film also features Neha Dhupia, Mukta Barve, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi, Yashaswini Dayama and Shivani Raghuvanshi.## Neena Kulkarni agreed: "Humein insecure feel karaya jata hai (we are made to feel insecure) and we were conditioned to look at another happy woman as competition. I have been working in the entertainment industry for the last 46 years, and I have friends here who stand by each other. I think the so-called 'bromance' and 'brotherhood' is a new concept. We women have always been standing, celebrating and fighting together against all the atrocity."## Seconding her point Shruti said: "I think generalizing is dangerous. One should not think all men are bad and all women are my competition. If I count you as my rival because of your gender, then that is discrimination, too. I can dislike an individual based on her opinion, habit or just the fact that we do not get along. But that has nothing to play on that 'women are women's worse enemy' theory. In my personal life, I do not 'like' or 'dislike' people based on gender."## Neena mentioned: "Also, two women arguing on a matter is not a catfight. Do we name it the same way when two men fight?"## "Devi" released on Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films' YouTube channel on Monday. The film is produced by Electric Apples Entertainment.## For more and latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

Rishi Kapoor: Delay in Nirbhaya hangings ridiculous

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor used the popular 'Tareekh pe tareekh' dialogue from the 1993 film 'Damini' to slam the Delhi Court judgment to defer the execution of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case. ## On Monday, a court in Delhi again deferred the execution of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case, which was slated for Tuesday, till further orders. ## Rishi finds the delay ridiculous, and he took to Twitter to express his view with a post. ## "Nirbhaya case. Tareekh pe tareekh, tareekh pe tareekh, tareekh pe tareekh - ‘Damini'. Ridiculous," he tweeted. It may be recalled, "Damini" starring Rishin Kapoor and Sunny Deol with Meenakshi Sheshadri in the title role, was a courtroom drama that is fought out in the aftermath of the rape of a young domestic help by a group of influential boys. ## Sunny Deol, who fights the case to ensure justice for the dead victim, mouths the "Tareek pe tareek" dialogue in frustration and anger even as the defense manages to bank on one loophole after the other to keep deferring the verdict. ## In the Nirbhaya case, the four convicts -- Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma, and Akshay Kumar -- were scheduled to be hanged at 6 am on March 3. ## Pawan Gupta, the last of the four convicts to seek legal remedy or file a mercy petition, had moved a fresh application seeking a stay on the hanging, as his mercy plea is pending before the President after the court dismissed their application seeking a stay on hanging earlier on Monday. ## He filed the mercy petition after his curative petition was rejected by Supreme Court on Monday morning. ## The case pertains to the gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old girl, christened Nirbhaya by the media, in the Capital in December 2012. Six people, including the four convicts and a juvenile, were named as accused. ## Ram Singh, the sixth accused, allegedly committed suicide in Tihar jail days after the trial began in the case. The juvenile was released in 2015 after spending three years in a correctional home. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.

Why Gulshan Devaiah signed up Radhika Apte's directorial debut

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) Actor Gulshan Devaiah says he decided to do the short film 'Sleepwalkers' because it came with an opportunity to work with Radhika Apte and Shahana Goswami. ## "Sleepwalkers" marks the directorial debut of Radhika Apte, and the actress has also scripted it. The film is produced by Abhisekh Chaubey, Honey Trehan and Lalit Sharma. ## "I generally prefer working on long formats such as features or a series but it was impossible for me to pass because it's my dear friend Radhika's directorial debut and also an opportunity for me to work with Shahana Goswami, whose work I greatly admired," Gulshan said. ## For Gulshan, "Sleepwalkers" is a commentary on society, class, nature, lack of balance and greed. ## "The shoot was a challenging schedule but it was well worth my while as it was a very satisfying experience to work with Radhika and Shahana. I was the first choice it but then he (Ajay Devgn) replaced me. We have done many films together," he said.## Akshay has played a police officer in several films. How does it feel to play a new cop avatar in his latest? "It feels nice. It's not just about the police uniform, but whenever I wear any uniform -- be it of an Army officer, a Navy officer or Air Force office -- it feels very nice. There is dignity attached to every uniform. I feel very fortunate that we (actors) get the opportunity to do various kinds of roles in our career, so I feel very proud of it," he replied.## There is a line in the trailer that Akshay's utters, which goes: "This work will be done by the one and only kameena Sangram Bhalerao". The reference is to Ranveer Singh's protagonist in Rohit Shetty's earlier cop action flick "Simmba", which went onto become a blockbuster upon release in December 2018, and which cast Ranveer as a cop who will go to any wicked extent to ensure justice.## When a reporter asked Ranveer if he is the real 'kameena' (wicked person) of Bollywood, Akshay answered on Ranveer's behalf: "It is a dialogue in the film and it is not about the film fraternity. It is not correct on your part to ask a question like this so, I would request you not to ask these questions."## "Sooryavanshi" is directed by Rohit Shetty and written by Sajid-Farhad. It is the fourth installment of Shetty's cop universe after two "Singham" films and "Simmba". The cast also features Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh, Niharica Raizada, Jackie Shroff, Sikandar Kher, Nikitin Dheer and Vivan Bhatena.## "Sooryavanshi" is scheduled to release in India on March 24. Presented by Reliance Entertainment, the film is produced by Shetty, Karan Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Hiroo Yash Johar, and Apoorva Mehta.## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned with us.

Rohit Shetty on Delhi riots: Keep calm, keep quiet

Mumbai, March 2 (IANS) Filmmaker Rohit Shetty's next film, the Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Sooryavashi', talks of terror strikes and Hindu-Muslim harmony. The filmmaker asks people to stay calm in the face of communal tension in the wake of the ongoing unrest in Delhi, urging fans not to spread panic and rumours without adequate knowledge of ground realities. ## "What is happening in Delhi or the country is a serious issue. There is a whole bunch of people talking about it. I think at this moment the best thing would be to keep calm. Our officials and the government and the people are working on it in Delhi, said Shetty, at the trailer launch of his forthcoming action thriller Sooryavanshi in Mumbai on Monday. ## The filmmaker added: "We're here in Mumbai at a trailer launch having a good time, and to talk about those suffering in Delhi would be the easiest thing to do. Right now, the best thing is to keep quiet and calm. Everyone is talking and that is only increasing chaos. Keep calm, people are working out the situation. We have no idea about the ground realities. None of us knows what it feels like to be in riots or in situation like that. It's horrible and devastating. We shouldn't indulge in such talks right now." ## At the launch, Shetty was accompanied by Akshay Kumar, along with Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, who play Bajirao Singham in "Singham" and Sangram Bhalerao in "Simmba" respectively -- namely the two other supercops in the filmmaker's Bollywood cop universe. ## "Sooryavanshi" co-producer Karan Johar and lead actress Katrina Kaif were also present at the launch. ## The film is slated to release on March 24. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood

Mahie Gill wishes to reunite with 'Dev.D' maker Anurag Kashyap

Mumbai, March 2 (IANS) Bollywood actress Mahie Gill shot to fame playing the modern-day Paro in Anurag Kashyap's new-age "Devdas" adaptation of 2009. She says she wishes to work with the filmmaker again but is too introverted to convey her interest to him. ## "If I analyze it you might just find it weird. I am an introverted person who does not do much PR exercise to maintain visibility, at a time when people are doing more PR than actual work. At the same time I am passionate about work. This is a weird combination that I have as an actor. No matter what films and projects I get, I have earned my fame from the film 'Dev D'. I admire Anurag Kashyap as a filmmaker and wish to collaborate in the future. But I do not know how to tell him that. There are several other filmmakers like Rajkumar Hirani, Imtiaz Ali, Vishal Bharadwaj, Anurag Basu and so many of them I wish to work with," Mahie told IANS. ## "I feel if I call them to say, 'give me work, I want to collaborate with you', I would be bothering them. I am socially awkward and that is why I only get work in an organic manner," said the actress who plays a crucial character in her latest release "Doordarshan". ## Mahie has impressed with roles in films such as "Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster", "Gulaal", "Paan Singh Tomar" and web series such as "Apharan: Sabka Katega" and "Posham Pa". Asked to choose one character of hers that has created an impact in her mind, she replied: "Usually, I am a happy-go-lucky person and really do not get a hangover of my characters once shooting is over. But so far, there have been a few roles that emotionally took a toll. One of them was 'Posham Pa', where a mother is a serial killer, and that is her profession! There was another film called 'Not A Love Story' and that was another character that impacted me badly," shared the actress. ## For more and the latest news about Bollywood, stay tuned to us.
