Pankaj Tripathi starts conversational series for fans amid lockdown

Mumbai, April 25 (IANS) Actor Pankaj Tripathi has found an interesting way of engaging with fans during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.## In a series started by the actor on his Facebook page, Pankaj narrates slice-of-life stories from his own experiences that changed his perspective of life. He talks about memories of his growing-up years.## In one of the stories he narrated, the actor spoke about how the train and its sounds evoke in him bittersweet childhood memories.## "I didn't start it with a script in mind. It's a conversational series where I talk to my fans about the things that matter to me. Manushi Chhillar: Supply free sanitary pads with ration to poor

Mumbai, April 24 (IANS) Former Miss World Mansuhi Chhillar has urged state governments to distribute sanitary pads along with daily ration to the underprivileged.## Manushi lauds the government's decision to include sanitary pads as essential commodities amid the COVID-19 crisis. However, she explains that underprivileged women have become prone to severe risks due to shortage of funds in the hands of daily wage earners because of SARS-CoV-2 -- the terminology now being used by the medical fraternity to describe the novel coronavirus globally.## "I'm hugely thankful that sanitary pads have been listed as an essential commodity by the government of India during the SARS-CoV-2 crisis. However, we need to focus on how women, especially from the economically handicapped strata, can get pads free of cost. I also urge the governments of various states to kindly look into distributing sanitary pads along with daily rations to the underprivileged," she said.## Manushi backs Project Shakti, a non-profit program, that has joined hands with local women across India and has empowered them to make a living by educating them to make biodegradable sanitary pads. The initiative works towards raising awareness on menstrual hygiene among women in the local communities of these women.## "The issue is that due to the shortage of funds, particularly among the daily wage earners, most would be looking to spend their money on just food and women's sanitation might not be a top priority for many families. This would increase the health hazard for millions of women in India as sanitary pads come at a certain cost and the financial crisis is definitely going to push women to be at risk," she added.## Manushi said she has spoken to organizations who are working non-stop in ensuring pads are distributed free of cost.## "But it would be great if administration, from a district level to city to state-level comes forward to help the needy."## On the work front. Lyricist Prashant Ingole pens poem supporting lockdown

Mumbai, April 24 (IANS) Lyricist Prashant Ingole, who has penned songs in films like "Bajirao Mastani" and "Mary Kom", has written a poem titled "Naadaan", urging people not to go out during the COVID-19 lockdown period.## The Indian government has imposed lockdown till May 3 but not all seem to be following it.## "It's very sad to see people around the world trying to be dumb and failing to understand the gravity of coronavirus and the lockdown. Seeing people in herds in India to buy vegetables breaking the social distancing rules, with no masks is disheartening," he said.## "Unfortunately, in India, I have never seen people valuing life and this seems to be just the routine for them. By going out, we are not only putting our lives in danger but our families' lives at stake too and at the same time, our country is at high risk," he added.## He urged people to follow the lockdown guidelines.## Meanwhile, Prashant has donated a certain sum of his fees for a song that he had worked on, to an NGO feeding the underprivileged.## He refused to reveal the amount but shared that it can be used for feeding 100 people for 18 days.## "Life is magical. Let's not try to save money for the future which may not come rather help people today who really are in need," he said.## "I feel and believe the most important aspect now is to support underprivileged people who consist of the major chunk in India and the medical staff who are at the forefront of this battlefield. Mumbai, April 24 (IANS) Jigar Saraiya, of the popular composer duo Sachin-Jigar, says the only silver lining about the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown for the music industry is that since films and film music will get delayed, independent music might get a little more space.## The film industry has taken a huge hit owing to the lockdown, and what kind of a blow does he think is in store for the music industry?## "If we talk about hard-hit, (think of) our film released on March 13, 'Angrezi Medium'. The film could only stay in theatres for one day because the cinema halls got locked down a day after that. The most affected film is our film but at the same time, the most successful song of this year is 'Kudi nu nachne de' -- which is from that film. I think the song has benefited from the lockdown because people are at home, dancing to that song and making their videos," Jigar told IANS.## He said that the lockdown has two effects. "It is going to affect everybody right from CEO's to musicians, business people... everybody will face difficulties... How do you recover from such a big halt? Music of course if there are films which are being pushed then music will also get pushed but at the same time because Sachin and I do a lot of independent music that will get a little cap because when a lot of film music comes then there is not much space for independent music. TV and radio have no slots," he said.## Jigar added: "Since film music will come a little late, independent music might get a little space. Shriya Pilgaonkar: My route unconventional compared to other celeb kids

Mumbai, April 24 (IANS) Shriya Pilgaonkar, daughter of talented actors Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar, feels her way of getting launched in mainstream cinema as an actress was quite different from most star kids.## "Compared to a lot of celebrity kids who have become actors, I feel the route I chose was quite unconventional in terms of the kind of work I started with. I started my journey doing a Marathi film, then I did a French film. So, for me it was not just about becoming an actor but also about honing my skills," Shriya told IANS.## Before foraying acting, Shriya worked as an assistant director on several projects.## "After graduating from college, I started learning Kathak and while I was learning Kathak, I was also working as an AD on several films and making short films. Acting happened very organically once I started doing theatre. It was not something that I had decided I would s do," she added.## Shriya made her Bollywood opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the 2016 film, "Fan". Later, she proved her mettle in the web show "Mirzapur".## Speaking of her journey so far, the young actress spoke of how her parents have always been a great source of inspiration.## "I feel blessed to be their daughter. They both have inspired me a lot. From discussing cinema to giving advice, they have always helped me through my thick and thin," she said.## Apart from films and web shows, Shriya works in plays, too. Recently, she featured in a virtual play, "Lockdown Love", to lighten up the mood of people amid the COVID-19 lockdown.## "It was a great experience performing live. It is a play about how a girl and guy who meet during the lockdown and start dating each other. So, it was a fun activity. We even rehearsed online and even changed our costumes like we normally do. Anita Raaj in trouble for allegedly hosting party amid COVID-19 lockdown

Mumbai, April 23 (IANS) A complaint has been registered against actress Anita Raaj for allegedly throwing a party amid the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.## Anita and her husband Sunil Hingorani were reportedly accused by neighbours for hosting a party for their friends, reports timesofindia.com, flouting the nationwide lockdown imposed by the government in order to curb the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus.## According to the report, the neighbours said that the 57-year-old actress Anita and her filmmaker husband had invited guests at their Pali Hill residence.## The report quoted a source who revealed that the neighbours were concerned about the threat the party posed due to the visitors in the vicinity, following which the local police were informed.## However, Anita Raaj, in a statement, said that it was a medical emergency and police came on a false complaint.## Stay tuned...

Sonu Sood to feed over 25,000 migrants during Ramzan

Mumbai, April 23 (IANS) Actor Sonu Sood has decided to provide meal kits to over 25,000 migrants on a daily basis in Mumbai during the Muslim holy month of Ramzan, which begins from Thursday.## "Times are so difficult today that it's very important for each one of us to stand for each other. Asma, who hails from Oman, said she only knew the Hindi version -- that too, learned with great difficulty. Ajay Devgn-starrer 'Raid' to get a sequel

Mumbai, April 23 (IANS) The Ajay Devgn-starrer "Raid", which released in 2018, is set to get a sequel. The follow-up film is already in the scripting stage, and the makers are considering the creation of "huge multi-film franchise based on the lines of 'Raid'".## The 2018 film, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, was based on a remarkable real-life income-tax raid conducted at the residence of a powerful local politician, by the Income Tax Department under the leadership of the upright IRS officer Amay Patnaik. The raid is widely believed to be the longest ever in history, and it went on for over 18 hours.## "The success of 'Raid' in 2018 proved to us that the audience is hungry for such smart content. We, Ajay Devgn and I along with Kumar Mangatji (producer)are in talks to create a huge multi-film franchise based on the lines of 'Raid'. The second part of the film is already in the scripting stage," said T-Series head honcho, producer Bhushan Kumar.## "We always want to give the audience films that are content-oriented. We have a responsibility to stay true to the expectations of the audience from this collaboration, especially after the success of our last venture, 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior'. Vikas Sethi: I want to get back to acting soon

Mumbai, April 23 (IANS) Actor Vikas Sethi has been away from showbiz for a while now. He says he wants to get back to work soon.## It's been about two years since the audience last saw him on screen.## "I want to get back to acting really soon. Gone are the days when you were considered too old to play a lead. There is room for actors to play a part of any age. Personally, I would like to get meaty roles and have no qualms about asking for work," said the "Sasural Simar Ka" actor.## He is also establishing his own production house.## "It is at the concept level. Given a choice between a positive or a negative role, I would love to take up a role with shades of grey. I'm of the opinion that a negative role offers an actor much more room to improvise whereas a good guy's role is in a defined framework," said the "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham..." actor.## Talking about the changes he finds in the industry, Vikas said: "I see some really good chances in the television industry today. It has become more streamlined in its approach and more professional. Nowadays, they have shifted from 9 am to 9 pm, whereas earlier we used to work for 18 hours at a stretch.## "Another thing that has been added to the bouquet of channels is the OTT platform, which offers TV actors another medium to showcase their acting prowess."## Stay tuned...

He says essaying a character on stage is supremely challenging and it provides the ultimate validation for any actor.## "I think essaying a character on stage for the theatre is supremely challenging and provides the ultimate validation for any actor. I have always envied actors who can entertain the audience on stage. It was as good as one of the things in my 'to-do list'," Rajeev said.## Zee Theatre's teleplay "Court Martial" follows the unusual trial of a junior ranked army man convicted of murdering his senior officer. Rajeev plays the role of Bikash Roy, an extremely sharp defense lawyer who goes deep into the shocking truth behind the assault.## Talking about the play, the actor said: "'Court Martial' demanded an intensity that required me to work on myself and prep for the role. It is an intense and gripping play with a fabulously taut storytelling technique. Aditya Rawal: I didn't get my debut film on a platter

Mumbai, April 22 (IANS) Young actor Aditya Rawal, son of the veteran Paresh Rawal, says although "Bamfaad" was a perfect debut film for him to prove his acting skill as a debutant, it wasn't easy for him to bag the project and that he had his share of struggle too.## "I am fortunate to have everything that I have dreamt of, but (I have it) after three years of struggle. Not that I have got everything on a platter, and perhaps that is why I value everything. I studied at NYU, auditioned, did theatre, and wrote stories. I have done everything that a struggler does in his initial days. So when finally my debut happened with ‘Bamfaad' I take it for what it is -- an opportunity to explore. I did not take it as pressure that comes along with a film, but as the chance to prove my skill as an actor," claimed Aditya, while speaking to IANS.## "Bamfaad" also features Vijay Varma, Jatin Sarna among others, and is streaming on ZEE5.## His co-actor Vijay mentioned: "Aditya is surely a talent to watch out. Being a Juhu brat, the way he played the character, Nasir Jamal, in the film, it looked convincing. He did not have the air of being the son of a veteran actor like Paresh Ji. We chatted for long films, and obviously the world cinema is our common interest area."## Aditya has studied creative writing abroad, so does it make him a better judge of a script? "Most definitely yes. I think studying scriptwriting and doing theatres in London and NYC has given me a better understanding of the craft. It will help me in the future to choose the right script.
