Mumbai, September 12, 2021: Vicky Kaushal starrer long-awaited biographical film "Sardar Udham Singh" becomes the latest Bollywood biggie to take the direct-to-digital route. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the movie has been ready for release for quite some time now. ## The producers of the film were reportedly not willing to hold the release of the film anymore and they have sold the movie to Amazon Prime Video. However, with Maharashtra theaters are yet to open, the makers have taken this tough call to release the movie on Prime Video. ## Vicky Kaushal plays the role of Udham Singh, a revolutionary freedom fighter best known for assassinating Michael O'Dwyer in London to take revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. The movie also stars Banita Sandhu as the female lead. Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal has expressed his gratitude to the Indian Army for inviting him to the Uri Base camp in Kashmir. The actor took to Instagram on Sunday to share photographs clicked over there with Amry officers, soldiers, and local residents. In one of the pictures, Vicky can be seen interacting with the locals who are busy capturing his photo on their mobile phones.## "My heartfelt thanks to the Indian Army for inviting me to the Uri Base Camp, Kashmir. It also stars Banita Sandhu and is scheduled to release on January 15, 2021.## In a previous interview with PTI, Sircar had said they had barely started the post-production on 'Sardar Udham Singh' when a nationwide lockdown to contain the coronavirus pandemic was announced on March 24. ## "It's a difficult film and it needs a long post-production time," he had said.## To resume the pre-production and post-production work, makers will have to adhere to the guidelines issued by the government a week ago. It was the second Hindi film after Nawazuddin Siddiqui's 'Ghoomketu' that was announced for the OTT release instead of conventional theatrical release due to the coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide lockdown. ## Also read - Amazon Prime Video announces the global premiere of 5 non-Hindi films ## Initially, Gulabo Sitabo was scheduled to release in November last year but some pending work forced the makers to postpone the film to the last week of April 2020 before it was preponed to 28 February.
