Raja Shivaji Dominates May 1 Releases with Rs. 33 Crore Net; Comparing how Patriot, Prada 2, and Ek Din Fared in a Diverse Weekend

BY SACNILK

The opening weekend numbers for movies released on May 1 show Raja Shivaji leading the domestic market with a 33.90 crore net collection. While the Marathi biopic found strong footing in India, Patriot focused its success overseas, grossing 38.50 crore internationally despite a downward trend in domestic shows. Along with The Devil Wears Prada 2, which held steady in premium multiplexes, the weekend data highlights a concentrated audience interest in big-ticket regional and international content over smaller releases like Ek Din and Jetlee. With an India net of 33.90 crore, it benefited from massive show counts and strong regional loyalty. Looking at the BookMyShow data, the film sold nearly 1 million tickets in its opening weekend, with a total of 998,290 bookings. The national multiplex chains (PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis) played a significant role, contributing 222,406 tickets across the three days. Interestingly, Sunday saw a strong recovery in these chains with 82,028 tickets sold, surpassing the opening Friday numbers of 81,866, indicating healthy word-of-mouth in urban centers. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) In contrast, the Malayalam release Patriot tells a story of two different markets. In India, the film started with a promising 10 crore on Friday but struggled to sustain that momentum, dropping to 5.50 crore by Sunday. This 10.6 percent dip from Saturday suggests that the initial buzz was driven by fan excitement rather than general audience growth. However, its overseas performance is where the film truly shines. It grossed 38.50 crore internationally in just three days, which is significantly higher than its total India gross of 25.11 crore. In North America specifically, it delivered a total weekend gross of 334 thousand dollars, making it the third-biggest opening for a Malayalam film in that region. The Hollywood entrant, The Devil Wears Prada 2, maintained a very steady profile throughout the weekend. After an opening day net of 3.80 crore (including pre-sales bringing the first day total to 5.50 crore), it saw a 5.3 percent growth on Saturday with 4.00 crore. While Sunday saw a minor 3.7 percent dip to 3.85 crore, the film's national chain presence remained robust. It sold over 150,000 tickets across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis over the three days, proving that urban multiplex audiences were consistently interested. On BookMyShow alone, it trended with over 36,180 tickets booked in a single 24-hour period on Sunday. Ek Din followed a volatile path during its opening weekend, struggling to find a consistent audience despite a late-weekend surge. The film opened on Friday with a net collection of 1.15 crore across 1,961 shows, supported by 9,559 ticket sales in national chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis. Saturday saw a 13 percent drop as collections dipped to 1.00 crore, while ticket sales in these premium chains fell significantly to 6,339. However, the film managed a notable recovery on Sunday, netting 1.70 crore across 1,490 shows with a recorded occupancy of 14.4 percent. While the Sunday performance provided a much-needed bounce-back, the national chain ticket sales only rose slightly to 7,240, indicating that the bulk of the Sunday growth came from single screens or non-national multiplexes. With a total India net collection of 3.85 crore and a modest overseas gross of 0.25 crore, the film's worldwide gross stands at 3.65 crore, suggesting it may struggle to maintain its screen count in the coming week. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Jetlee faced a challenging opening weekend, beginning its run with a net collection of 1.10 crore on Friday. Despite operating across 893 shows, the film struggled to build momentum in the premium national chains, selling only 4,151 tickets on the first day. This downward trend intensified on Saturday, where collections dropped by 27.3 percent to reach 0.80 crore. By Sunday, the film saw another significant decline of 31.3 percent, netting just 0.55 crore. Interestingly, while digital platforms recorded a surge of over 58,000 tickets for Sunday, the actual theatrical turnout in national chains was at its lowest, with only 1,599 tickets sold across PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis. This disconnect between digital bookings and ground-level footfalls resulted in a domestic weekend total of 2.45 crore net. When combined with an overseas gross of 0.85 crore, Jetlee ends its first three days with a worldwide gross collection of 3.69 crore, a figure that places it at the bottom of the weekend major releases. National Chain Ticket Sales : Raja Shivaji: 222,406 Total Tickets | Friday: 81,866 | Saturday: 58,512 | Sunday: 82,028 The Devil Wears Prada 2: 154,878 Total Tickets | Friday: 49,328 | Saturday: 53,127 | Sunday: 52,423 Patriot: 126,107 Total Tickets | Friday: 54,814 | Saturday: 38,980 | Sunday: 32,313 Ek Din: 23,138 Total Tickets | Friday: 9,559 | Saturday: 6,339 | Sunday: 7,240 Jetlee: 7,907 Total Tickets | Friday: 4,151 | Saturday: 2,157 | Sunday: 1,599 Raja Shivaji has undeniably stolen the show domestically... Overall, Raja Shivaji is setting new benchmarks for Marathi cinema, while Patriot highlights the growing power of the Malayalam diaspora in global box office tallies. The Devil Wears Prada 2 remains a reliable option for urban viewers, but for Ek Din and Jetlee, the road ahead looks difficult as show counts are likely to be redistributed to the better-performing regional titles in the coming week.

Raja Shivaji vs. Chhaava Advance Booking:Analyzing the Clash Between Regional Authenticity and Bollywood's Record-Breaking Scale

BY SACNILK

The historical genre in Indian cinema has recently seen two major projects based on the Maratha legacy take very different paths at the box office. While Chhaava was released as a purely Hindi production, the upcoming Raja Shivaji is taking a dual-language approach by releasing in both Marathi and Hindi. Although it is clear from the data that Raja Shivaji is playing on a different commercial level, comparing the two provides a fascinating look at how a multi-lingual regional film stands against a massive Bollywood production. To understand the scale of this competition, we have to look at the benchmark set by Chhaava for its opening day. Even as a Hindi-only release, the film managed to generate immense momentum, particularly within Maharashtra. Its final advance booking for day one stood at approximately 4.88 lakh tickets sold across India, translating to a gross of nearly 17.89 crore including block seats. This volume was driven by a heavy presence in national chains, where it sold over 2.14 lakh tickets, setting a high bar for any historical drama aiming for a massive start. On the other hand, Raja Shivaji is leaning into a strategy that combines regional loyalty with a wide national footprint. Backed by Jio Studios, the film is aiming for a massive showing of around 5,700 shows nationwide across its two versions. However, the internal breakdown of these shows tells a very interesting story about where the demand actually lies. Despite having a massive push in Hindi with nearly 3,900 shows, that version has sold only about 34,000 tickets so far. In sharp contrast, the Marathi version is completely dominating the pre-sales, selling over 1.67 lakh tickets from just 1,786 shows. This clear preference for the native language version is what has pushed the total opening day advance to approximately 2.02 lakh tickets, resulting in a gross of 6.54 crore with block seats. Even though Chhaava was purely in Hindi, its subject matter ensured that it dominated Maharashtra. It recorded a massive opening with nearly 4.50 crore in advance sales from the state alone, with Pune and Mumbai showing occupancy peaks of 62.5 percent and nearly 80 percent. Coming to Raja Shivaji, the response is heavily concentrated in its native language. The Marathi 2D version has sold over 1.67 lakh tickets, with Mumbai and Pune showing real occupancy levels of 44 percent and 55 percent respectively. However, the Hindi version is seeing a slower start, with territories like NCR currently at a 2 percent occupancy across 433 shows. While Chhaava set a high benchmark with its 33.50 crore opening day net, Raja Shivaji is testing how far a film can go when it prioritizes its regional roots while still competing for a national footprint. Even if it does not reach the same opening day totals as a major Bollywood actioner, the current pre-sales and the sheer scale of its release are already setting a historic new benchmark for the Marathi film industry.

According to an exclusive report by Pinkvilla, the teasers for Raja Shivaji and Cocktail 2 will be showcased in cinemas alongside the Ranveer Singh-starrer, which is scheduled for a grand release on March 19, 2026. This follows earlier reports that the trailer for Akshay Kumar's Bhooth Bangla is also set to be attached to the film. The decision to feature these teasers alongside Dhurandhar: The Revenge is viewed as a strategic move to leverage the significant audience turnout expected for the Aditya Dhar directorial. 120 Bahadur vs Mastiii 4 Box Office: A Dud First Week Total For Both Films

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, November 28 - The first-week box office collection for Mastiii 4 and 120 Bahadur have turned out to be highly disappointing, with both films failing to attract audiences despite arriving on relatively clear release frames. Both films were almost non-starters and ended up with poor first-week totals. Director Milap Zaveri, who recently scored an unexpected box office hit with Deewaniyat, witnessed a major turnaround with the adult comedy, Mastiii 4, which recorded a washout first-week performance, collecting just around 13.75 crores net (approximately 16.50 crores gross) in India. The film's overseas performance was equally underwhelming, adding only an estimated 1.50 crores to its 18 crores worldwide tally. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The opening week box office performance of Masti 4 is far from the expected one for a brand-backed comedy franchise. Poor word-of-mouth and minimal traction during weekdays ensured that the film never gained momentum after its modest opening. Tere Ishk Mein Day 1 Box Office Trend: Dhanush Joins Rajinikanth In The Elite Double-Digit Opening List On the other hand, 120 Bahadur managed to score slightly better numbers but still ended its first week on a forgettable note. The Farhan Akhtar-led war drama earned approximately 15 crores net (18 crores gross) domestically, with its worldwide collection touching roughly 20 crores. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 120 Bahadur opened below Mastiii 4 but couldn't take the momentum into the weekdays after the decent opening weekend. With competition increasing from fresh releases and major titles on the horizon, the chances of any late turnaround for either film remain slim. Projections now suggest that the combined domestic total of both films is headed for under 35 crores net, marking one of the weakest twin releases with familiar faces in recent times. Both films will depend heavily on digital and satellite rights to recover their investments as their box office journey nears its end. Stay tuned...

120 Bahadur vs Mastiii 4 Box Office Comparison: A Forgettable Weekend For Bollywood

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, November 24 - Bollywood witnessed one of the most disastrous weekends as both 120 Bahadur and Mastiii 4 delivered modest numbers at the box office, despite arriving with brand value and familiar faces. While Farhan Akhtar's war drama 120 Bahadur managed to put better numbers than the other one, neither film could create the kind of impact the industry was hoping for. 120 Bahadur, based on the Battle of Rezang La, opened on a lukewarm note but showed some signs of improvement over the weekend. After a low start, the film witnessed growth on Saturday and maintained the same pace on Sunday, taking its 3-day India net total to approximately 10 crore. While the jump indicates favourable word of mouth in certain pockets, the overall weekend remained below expectations considering the film's scale and subject. Check Out Box Office Comparison of Both Films (Net Collection) Day 120 Bahadur Mastiii 4 Day 1 ₹ 2.25 Cr ₹ 2.75 Cr Day 2 ₹ 3.85 Cr ₹ 2.75 Cr Day 3 ₹ 4.00 Cr ₹ 3.00 Cr Total ₹ 10.10 Cr ₹ 8.50 Cr Estimated Collection* On the other hand, Masti 4, the fourth instalment in the once-popular adult-comedy franchise, failed to capitalise on the brand name. The film remained flat through the weekend, collecting around 8.50 crore across its first three days. With negligible growth from Friday to Sunday, the franchise's fatigue has become evident, and the film has turned out to be one of the weakest performers in the series. In comparison, 120 Bahadur holds the edge in both growth and total weekend collection. However, with neither film delivering a substantial opening, the weekend as a whole has turned out to be forgettable for Bollywood. Low occupancies, cautious audience response, and lack of strong buzz contributed to the subdued performance. Stay tuned...

Mumbai, September 6 – The wait for one of Bollywood's most beloved comedy franchises just got more exciting as the shoot of Dhamaal 4, directed by Indra Kumar, has officially wrapped up, and the makers have reconfirmed its release date for Eid 2026. Fronted by Ajay Devgn, the fourth instalment brings back the iconic trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, and Jaaved Jaaferi, who have been synonymous with the franchise's success. The upcoming film also marks the return of Sanjay Mishra and Esha Gupta from the last film, while also featuring Upendra Limaye, Anjali Anand, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Ravi Kishan. Produced by T-Series, Maruti International, Ajay Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, one of the most star-studded comedies in recent years promises to be a laughter-filled extravaganza that continues the legacy of Indra Kumar's comedy blockbusters. The Dhamaal franchise has been a fan-favourite since its inception, and with Ajay Devgn leading the madness this time, expectations are sky-high for another box office riot. Perfect But Highly Risky Release Date While Eid is a lucrative festive weekend for the box office, it is going to be a highly risky affair for the 2026 release. With Dhamaal 4 sticking to the original plan, the movie will have to face a mighty clash with Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal's Love & War, along with Yash's Toxic, which are slated for a March 19 debut. It needs to be seen if all three films, arrive on Eid 2026, which is unlikely.

The movie performed best in Maharashtra, which has been a strong market for Ajay Devgn over the years, followed by Gujarat, Delhi, and West Bengal. ## The initial word of mouth for Raid 2 is mixed to positive, which should be enough for it a have a very good extended opening weekend. Mumbai, April 30 - After the big success of Raid (2018), Bollywood star Ajay Devgn and director Raj Kumar Gupta have reunited for its sequel, which hits the big screen on May 1st. The movie has been censored with a U/A certificate with an approved runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes, and is carrying positive buzz. ## Lately, the franchise-based films are doing wonders at the box office, and it seems, Raid 2 is set to be the next in the list. The advance booking of the movie was opened a couple of days ago, and the response has been pleasant, with one of the best for a Bollywood movie of the year. ## As of 8 PM on April 30, Raid 2 has sold around 160K tickets worth approximately 4.35 crores gross for the opening day. The final sales are heading towards 5-5.50 crores gross, and in comparison with one of Ajay Devgn's recent films, Shaitaan, which scored approximately 4.15 crores pre-sales for the opening day. ## Raid 2 will reportedly be released on over 3500+ screens across the country, which is among the biggest of the year. Considering the pre-sales trend and strong franchise value, the film is expected to open in the range of 15-17 crores net, despite the competition with holdovers and new releases. ## Shaitaan, with 4.15 crores pre-sales, took the opening of approximately 14.75 crores net, and Raid 2 will look to open in the same range, with a strong possibility of going higher, especially since the Maharashtra Day/Labour Day holiday in some states on Thursday. The positive word of mouth may further strengthen the opening, which needs to be seen.## If Raid 2 manages to click with the audience positively, then the film will be guaranteed to have a good run at the box office with not much competition, other than with holdovers to some extent, for the next few weeks. It needs to be seen how the movie fares on the opening day and during the weekend.## Stay tuned...
