Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers At The Worldwide Box Office: Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG Takes 8th Spot

Chennai, September 27 - In the opening day box office battle, superstar Pawan Kalyan has officially entered the all-time top 10 list with his latest blockbuster They Call Him OG, directed by Sujeeth. Released on September 25, the gangster action drama stormed the global box office with one of the biggest openings for an Indian film, cementing Power Star's dominance even in the era of pan-India cinema. The race for the biggest Indian opener has grown fierce over the years. It all began with SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which not only redefined Indian box office history but also became the first Indian film to cross 100 crore and 200 crore worldwide on day one. The director later broke his own record with RRR (2022), which took global openings to another level. In 2024, Indian cinema scaled unprecedented heights when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 – The Rule shook the industry with a 275 crore worldwide opening, almost touching the (still) unthinkable 300 crore mark. While OG didn't break into the top five, it still paved its path to history, delivering the biggest-ever opening for PK and ranking among the Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers of All Time. Looking ahead, the list may undergo a major shakeup with several upcoming juggernauts in the making. From Prabhas' Spirit, Fauji, The Raja Saab, Salaar 2, and Kalki 2 to Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana, Animal Park, and Dhoom 4, Shah Rukh Khan's King, Allu Arjun's AA22, SS Rajamouli's Gen63 (with Mahesh Babu), Yash's Toxic, Jr. NTR's Dragon, Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, and Vijay's Jana Nayagan, all these films carry the potential to rewrite box office history yet again. Coolie vs Leo Opening Day Box Office Comparison: Rajinikanth-starrer Beats Thalapathy Vijay's LCU Blockbuster To Emerge Biggest Tamil Opener Worldwide

Chennai, August 15 - In the race to emerge as the king of Tamil cinema, superstar Rajinikanth's gangster action drama Coolie has beaten Thalapathy Vijay's LCU blockbuster Leo, and become the biggest opener ever for a Tamil title, at the domestic and worldwide box office. Released on August 14, just ahead of the Independence Day holiday, Coolie began its run with record-breaking pre-sales of over 100 crore. Despite facing mixed reviews and a direct clash with Yash Raj Films' high-octane spy thriller War 2, Lokesh Kanagaraj's directorial drew huge spot bookings, turning the film's opening into a box office triumph. While final numbers are still coming, estimates indicate that Coolie has grossed over 150 crore worldwide on its first day, overtaking Leo's 143 crore debut. This achievement makes it the biggest Tamil opener of all time, and only the third Tamil film in history to open with more than 100 crore globally. On the domestic front, Coolie raked in around 78 crore gross, setting a new benchmark for Tamil films and surpassing the previous record held by Rajinikanth's 2.0 and Vijay's Leo, which grossed around 76.50 crores. International markets also responded with blockbuster enthusiasm, contributing an estimated 75 crore gross, a new overseas record, beating Leo's 66 crore. Both Coolie and Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, have been the most hyped Tamil films in recent times. Even the opening day advances for both titles were almost in the same range, but experts attribute Coolie's record opening to the perfect combination of Rajinikanth's mass appeal, Lokesh Kanagaraj's brand value post-Vikram and Leo, and the holiday weekend. With these opening day numbers, Coolie has set the tone for a potentially record-breaking lifetime run for Tamil cinema. If the film manages to win over mixed word of mouth, through the holiday period and maintains decent weekday holds, it could challenge 2.0's lifetime worldwide gross of around 700 crores. Rajinikanth's Coolie vs 2.0 Opening Day Box Office Comparison: From Sci-Fi Spectacle to Mass Action Blockbuster

Chennai, August 15 - Superstar Rajinikanth's gangster action drama Coolie has taken an earth-shattering opening at the domestic as well as the worldwide box office, setting new records for Tamil cinema. Lokesh Kanagaraj's directorial has performed beyond already sky-high expectations, and brought in sensational numbers on the opening day. Coolie stormed into cinemas on August 14, 2025, riding on patriotic fervour and sky-high anticipation. The film amassed an impressive over 80+ crore gross collection in India on day one (final number awaited), making it Rajinikanth’s biggest domestic opening ever. Worldwide, it grossed an estimated 150+ crore, thanks to strong performances across both traditional Tamil markets and new territories. The previous biggest domestic opener of Rajinikanth was 2.0. The sci-fi extravaganza, directed by Shankar and co-starring Akshay Kumar, saw Rajinikanth reprise his dual roles with Akshay Kumar as the antagonist and Amy Jackson in a key role. On its first day, 2.0 amassed approximately 75+ crore gross in India, ranking as the second-highest opening behind Baahubali 2 at the time. The film went on to become the biggest Tamil grosser with around 700 crores worldwide; however, it is considered an average affair due to its high budget. 2.0 stood as the most expensive Indian film ever made at the time of its release, with an estimated production budget of around 500 crore. The film's groundbreaking visual spectacle was powered by world-renowned VFX studios like Legacy Effects, under the supervision of acclaimed VFX expert V. Srinivas Mohan. Breaking away from conventional practices, 2.0 became the first Indian film to be shot entirely with native 3D camera setups rather than relying on post-production conversionsβ€”a bold Even before release, 2.0 was making history. The teaser amassed an astounding 32 million views within just 24 hours, while the full trailer soared past 140 million views, setting unprecedented digital engagement records for Indian cinema. The marketing campaign, equally ambitious, spanned continentsβ€”hot-air balloons adorned with 2.0 imagery floated over global landmarks such as the Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles, as well as in London, Dubai, and across Southeast Asia, amplifying the film’s presence on a truly international scale. While 2.0 set a towering benchmark, Coolie enters the fray backed by Rajinikanth's unmatched charisma, a gripping mass-action storyline, and massive pre-release buzz. The true measure of this face-off will lie in whether Coolie can match or surpass the monumental opening of 2.0, further cementing Thalaivar’s dominance across eras in Tamil cinema history. 50 Years of Superstar Rajinikanth: The Box Office King Who Rewrote Cinema History Kollywood

50 Years of Superstar Rajinikanth: The Box Office King Who Rewrote Cinema History

Chennai, August 15 - Born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1950, in Bangalore, Rajinikanth's journey to cinematic superstardom is the stuff of legend. Raised in a modest Maharashtrian family, he worked a series of jobs, including as a bus conductor, before his passion for acting led him to the Madras Film Institute in the early 1970s. There, his raw talent and magnetic presence caught the attention of celebrated director K. Balachander, who gave him his debut in Apoorva Raagangal (1975). Though a small role, it announced the arrival of a unique screen presence.## Initially cast in intense, often antagonistic roles, Rajinikanth quickly transformed into a leading man with films like Mullum Malarum (1978) and Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri (1977). By the early 1980s, his charisma, trademark style, and mass connect had turned him into Tamil cinema's biggest draw. Billa (1980) was a turning point, redefining the industry's commercial scale with a gross of over β‚Ή10 crore worldwide among the first Tamil films and introducing the "Superstar" title that has stayed with him ever since.## What followed was an era of dominance that few actors in world cinema can match. Through the 1980s and 1990s, Rajinikanth delivered a string of historic hits, Annamalai (1992), Baashha (1995), and Padayappa (1999), each smashing box office records and running for extraordinary durations. His films weren't just theatrical releases; they were cultural events, celebrated with towering cutouts, dawn shows, and international premieres. Over the decades, Rajinikanth has continually adapted to changing cinematic landscapes, from the record-breaking Chandramukhi (2005) and Sivaji (2007) to the sci-fi spectacle Enthiran (2010), the global blockbuster Kabali (2016), and the mega-hit Jailer (2023). Across generations, his ability to command the box office remains unmatchedβ€”a legacy built on charisma, versatility, and an unbreakable bond with his audience. ## During Rajinikanth's Golden Era of the 1990s, the following films stood out not only for their mass appeal but also for the records they set at the box office. Thalapathi (1991), directed by Mani Ratnam and co-starring Mammootty, with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, drew inspiration from the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana in the Mahabharata, reimagined in a modern-day gangster backdrop. The film opened to massive box office success in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, enjoying runs of over 200 days in several theatres.## Annamalai (1992) emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of its time, reportedly earning around 12.5 crore, a staggering figure for the early 90s, cementing the Superstar's bankability. Just three years later, Baashha (1995) shattered that record with an unprecedented run of nearly 15 months in theatres, though exact figures remain undocumented in verified public sources. By the decade's close, Padayappa (1999) had taken the crown as Tamil cinema's highest-grossing film of its time, combining record-breaking openings with long-running popularity. These three titles not only ruled the box office but also solidified Rajinikanth's status as a pan-India phenomenon.## ## The wave continued with Muthu (1995), a Diwali release that became a silver-jubilee hit in Tamil Nadu. Its Japanese dub, Muthu: The Dancing Maharaja (1998), grossed about ~US$3.06 million and stood as the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan for 24 years, opening an overseas fanbase few regional stars had enjoyed then. ## 2000s – Crossing the 100 Crore Frontier ## The 2000s marked a new phase in Rajinikanth’s career, where he not only maintained his dominance but also redefined commercial milestones. Chandramukhi (2005) became the longest-running Tamil film in history, with an extraordinary 890+ days in theatres, and significantly boosted its overseas presence. Just two years later, Sivaji: The Boss (2007) created history by becoming the first Tamil film to gross over 100 crore worldwide, setting a new benchmark for budgets, promotions, and box office potential in the industry. This decade firmly established Rajinikanth as a star who could deliver unprecedented numbers while continually expanding Tamil cinema's reach. ## 2010s – Pan-India & Global Stardom ## The 2010s cemented Rajinikanth's stature as a true pan-India and global superstar, with his films achieving unprecedented reach and revenue. Enthiran (2010), a groundbreaking sci-fi spectacle, became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of its time, earning over 291 crore worldwide and setting new technical benchmarks. Kabali (2016) followed with record-smashing pre-release business and a staggering 200+ crore opening weekend globally, proving Rajinikanth's unmatched pull across markets. Then came 2.0 (2018), the most expensive Indian film ever made at 500+ crore, which went on to gross around 700 crore worldwide, further solidifying his position as a box office phenomenon who could command massive budgets and deliver equally massive returns. ## (Worldwide collection)## ## The 2020s showcased Rajinikanth's enduring box office power, proving that even after decades at the top, his star appeal remains unshakable. Annaatthe (2021), released during the pandemic, defied restrictions to emerge as a major Diwali season winner, drawing massive crowds in Tamil Nadu and strong overseas numbers. But it was Jailer (2023) that truly reaffirmed his dominance, grossing over 600 crore worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. With its phenomenal reception in Malaysia, Singapore, and the Gulf, Jailer demonstrated Rajinikanth's unmatched ability to unite audiences across borders. ## Now, Coolie (2025) has already sparked historic pre-release records, from crossing $2 million in North American premiere pre-sales to notching over 100 crore in advance bookings, setting the stage for another monumental box office run and continuing the superstar’s legacy into yet another decade. ## Rajinikanth's box office dominance isn't just about earnings; it's about the cultural experience. From fan rituals and overseas premieres to unprecedented opening-day sales, every release is a festival. His appeal spans generations, languages, and continents-making him a unique figure in Indian cinema history. And with Coolie, the question isn't whether Rajinikanth will break records, it's how many more he'll set. From his humble debut in Apoorva Raagangal to ruling screens across continents, Rajinikanth's journey is more than just a string of blockbusters β€” it's the story of an icon who became a cultural phenomenon. ## His films have not only shattered box office records but also united audiences across generations, languages, and borders. As the Superstar marks 50 years in cinema, his legacy continues to inspire, proving that true stardom isn't measured by numbers alone, but by the hearts won along the way. And if history has shown us anything, it's that Rajinikanth's reign at the box office is far from over. ## Stay tuned...

Coolie Opening Day (Day 1) Early Estimates: Rajinikanth-starrer Shatters Box Office With Possible Record Start

Chennai, August 14 - Superstar Rajinikanth has stormed the box office with his latest gangster action drama Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. As far as the opening is concerned, the film has lived up to its massive pre-release hype by delivering a sensational collection. ## According to early estimates, the film has registered the biggest opening ever for a Tamil film, with historic numbers across key markets. In Tamil Nadu, Coolie dominated with an estimated around 28-30 crore gross, which is one of the biggest starts in the state. ## The buzz extended beyond the home turf, with the film scoring big in other southern territories as early estimates suggest 16-18 crore gross in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, 14-15 crore gross in Karnataka, and around 10 crore gross in Kerala. ## Coolie is one of the rare Tamil movies which managed to make a mark in the Hindi belt. Outside South Indian states, the Rest of India opening day collection is estimated to be around 7-8 crore gross, driven mainly by the Hindi belt, which saw good occupancy in metro cities. ## Overall, Coolie has scored an estimated 75-80+ crores gross on its first day in India. Thalapathy Vijay's Leo is currently the record Tamil opener domestically with around 76 crores gross. At the overseas box office, early estimates suggest 75+ crores opening for Coolie, making it a 150+ crores worldwide debut, which is a record for Tamil cinema. ## Trade experts believe that the Independence Day holiday and positive audience reception will help Coolie maintain this momentum; however, poor critics' reviews and the mixed audience reception might spoil the party, which needs to be seen. ## Stay tuned...

Coolie Final Advance Booking: Rajinikanth-starrer Scored Record First Day Pre-Sales For Tamil; Falls Short of Thalapathy Vijay's Leo For The Weekend

Chennai, August 14 - The D-day is here as superstar Rajinikanth's much-awaited gangster action drama Coolie hits the big screens amid huge hype. The film has set the Tamil film industry buzzing with its historic advance booking numbers for the opening day. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie will start the day with 100+ crores already in the bag as it has shattered all previous opening day pre-sales records for the Tamil cinema, cementing its place as a monumental box office force.## As per the final tracked booking, Coolie has scored a massive 108+ crores for the opening day, including around 50 crores in India and 58 crores overseas, for the opening day. This makes it the highest first-day booking ever for a Tamil film, surpassing the previous benchmark set by Leo in single-day ticket sales (100+ crores). ## However, when looking at the overall opening weekend bookings, Coolie (183 crores) fell a little short of Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, which still holds the crown with 188 crores worldwide. While Coolie dominated with unprecedented Day 1 momentum, it fell slightly short of Leo’s cumulative opening pre-sales record. ## Still, the feat is nothing short of spectacular for Rajinikanth, whose box office pull remains unmatched after decades in the industry. With Coolie releasing amid huge anticipation and clashing with Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's War 2, all eyes are now on how the film converts its massive pre-sales into record-shattering collections once the final numbers roll in. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Vettaiyan: Lokesh Kanagaraj's Mass Action Collides With T.J. Gnanavel's Action Drama Kollywood

Rajinikanth's Coolie vs Vettaiyan: Lokesh Kanagaraj's Mass Action Collides With T.J. Gnanavel's Action Drama

Chennai, August 14 - In theatres right now is Coolie, the latest Rajinikanth-starrer action spectacle directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which follows hot on the heels of the superstar's previous outing, Vettaiyan, brought to life by T.J. Gnanavel. While both films showcase the actor's unmatched screen presence, they differ in tone, style, and box office performance. ## Vettaiyan was released on October 10, 2024, marking a compelling departure for Rajinikanth, portraying an encounter specialist navigating the murky world of crime and justice. Directed by T. J. Gnanavel and produced under Lyca Productions, the film assembled a powerhouse cast including Amitabh Bachchan as Rajinikanth's superior, along with Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and more. ## The Film was set against the social backdrop of encounter killings, the screenplay by B. Kiruthika captured the moral complexities faced by law enforcers, urging reform over retaliation. Anirudh Ravichander’s music, most notably the single "Manasilaayo", featuring a rare on-screen dance moment by Rajinikanth and Manju Warrier, injected both energy and emotional resonance into the film. The movie had a promising opening, but a mixed reception didn't help it in the long run, and at the end of 2024, the movie amassed around β‚Ή250 crores worldwide, securing a respectable third place among the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year. ## Vettaiyan features a rare and powerful reunion of cinematic legends, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, sharing the screen again after 33 years, following their iconic collaboration in Hum (1991). Strategically planned for a pan-Indian release, Vettaiyan was simultaneously launched in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, expanding its reach beyond traditional Tamil cinema audiences. The movie received a mixed-to-positive response from critics, with many praising Rajinikanth's commanding presence and the film's socially relevant theme, while pointing out issues in pacing and storytelling.## Vettaiyan emerged as a bold yet imperfect attempt to blend mass appeal with social messaging. Rajinikanth’s charisma remained its strongest asset, while its commercial appeal carried it to solid box office numbers despite narrative inconsistencies. Gnanavel’s film invited praise for its purpose and intention, even if not entirely successful in execution. ## Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, marks a grand comeback for Rajinikanth, celebrating both his 171st film and a 50-year cinematic legacy. Rajinikanth headlines as Deva, reportedly a former gang leader entangled in complex socio-political dynamics. The ensemble includes Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Pooja Hegde, and Soubin Shahir, among others. Aamir Khan appears in a high-impact cameo, including a dramatic 15-minute confrontation with Rajinikanth. Anirudh Ravichander scores the soundtrackβ€”his fourth collaboration with Lokesh and fifth with Rajinikanth. ## The album, released August 2, 2025, includes hit singles like "Monica," which sparked a viral dance trend. Strategically positioned for a pan-India release in over 100 countries, the film is poised to become one of Tamil cinema's most widely distributed titles. Coolie had achieved remarkable pre-release milestones, with worldwide bookings totalling over β‚Ή100 crores for the opening day. In North America, pre-sales reached $2.75 million, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Rajinikanth’s previous hit "Petta" in the region. ## Additionally, the film set a new record for Tamil cinema on BookMyShow by selling 2.5+ million tickets in advance. The film received an 'A' certification, making it Rajinikanth’s first adult-only release in 36 years, a testament to its intense action and mature themes. Coolie is shaping up to be more than just another film; it's becoming a cultural milestone. With Rajinikanth's legendary screen presence, a visionary director, a powerhouse ensemble cast, and music by Anirudh Ravichander, it promises to be a cinematic event of the year. From record-setting bookings to global reach across 100+ countries, the film’s launch on Independence Day weekend sets it up for box office dominance. ## While comparisons are inevitable, industry analysts believe Coolie and Vettaiyan represent two sides of Rajinikanth's cinematic persona β€” the larger-than-life superstar and the seasoned actor. Whether it's at the ticket counters or in the hearts of fans, both films reinforce why Rajinikanth remains Tamil cinema's undisputed king. ## Stay tuned...

Coolie North America Premiere Advance Booking: Rajinikanth's Gangster Action Drama Creates History, Beats Kabali

Los Angeles, August 12 - Superstar Rajinikanth has outshone himself at the North American box office by taking his upcoming gangster action drama Coolie into the $2 million premiere day gross collection club, and has created history for Tamil cinema. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie's premiere pre-sales have crossed $2 million in North America, making it the first-ever Tamil film to achieve this feat. Rajinikanth's Kabali (2016) previously held the record with a $1.93 million premiere day, and Coolie No. 1 has outgrossed this with pre-sales only. ## The total premiere advance booking gross collection of Coolie is $2.10 million, including $1.85 million in the USA alone, with 2 days still left for the premiere. At this pace, the movie is heading for $3 million premiere opening in North America, which is a monstrous start. ## Meanwhile, Coolie is marching towards scoring 100 crores advance booking gross collection worldwide for the first day. As of now, the Rajinikanth-starrer has grossed approximately 65 crores, including around 40 crores from the international markets. The movie is releasing on August 14. ## Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie is headed to score one of the biggest openings for an Indian film, and possibly the biggest for Tamil cinema. Double Challenge For Superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie In Hindi Kollywood

Double Challenge For Superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie In Hindi

Mumbai, August 11 - Superstar Rajinikanth’s gangster action drama Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is aiming to rewrite box office history when it opens worldwide on August 14. Carrying massive pre-release buzz, the film has the potential to take Tamil cinema into uncharted territory β€” provided it performs strongly in the Hindi market. ## As I reported earlier, Coolie is Kollywood's biggest bet for 1000 crores club entry if it manages to stay strong against Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's War 2, which also releases on August 14. However, things have changed over the last couple of weeks, which might not be good news for Coolie. ## The YRF's spy universe film was supposed to be the only challenge for Coolie in the Hindi market, but there is one more threat, called Mahavatar Narsimha. Produced by Kaleem Productions and presented by Hombale Films, Mahavatar Narsimha is on a record-breaking run, growing stronger with each passing week. Remarkably, its third weekend gross has surpassed its second, which itself outperformed the opening weekend. ## With demand still peaking, the film is set to retain a significant number of screens even during the Independence Day release rush. This poses a major hurdle for Coolie, especially in its opening weekend. War 2 has already secured a massive release across more than 5,000 screens in the Hindi version alone and is expected to maintain them through the extended holiday frame. ## By contrast, Coolie's Hindi-dubbed version will open on fewer than 1,500 screens, making positive word of mouth absolutely crucial. It becomes even more important for Coolie to understand the genuine threat of Mahavatar Narsimha, whose box office carnage has slowed down the pace of YRF's mega blockbuster Saiyaara, which at one stage was looking to cross 400 crores net, but now will fall well below the target. ## For Coolie to stand any chance of doing well at the Hindi box office, it will need unanimous positive word of mouth, and hope it spreads faster. In case of mixed reception, the Rajinikanth starrer will be at a huge risk of losing screens to Mahavatar Narsimha and other holdover titles. The coming week will reveal whether Coolie can overcome these dual challenges and stake its claim among India's all-time biggest box office successes. ## Stay tuned...

Coolie Worldwide First Day Advance Booking: Rajinikanth-starrer Hits 50 Crore Gross

Chennai, August 9 – Superstar Rajinikanth's much-awaited gangster action drama Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is having sensational advance booking collection for the first day worldwide, and is proving to be an unstoppable force at the box office even before its release. ## The film has been going great guns in the international markets, and is on course to score the biggest opening for a Tamil title. As I type this, it has grossed approximately 37+ crores pre-sales collection for the opening day (including premieres) internationally, and is heading towards the 50 crores mark sooner than expected. ## While the overseas market has been the driving force so far, it was a matter of time before the pre-sales opened in India to get a blockbuster response, and that's what happened when tickets went live on August 8. Within no time, the movie sold over 100K tickets, and has been unstoppable since then.## Currently, the booking for the first day stands at around 14 crore gross in the domestic market, with strong numbers coming in from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The worldwide pre-sales for the opening day are 51+ crores. The momentum is expected to accelerate as the Independence Day weekend approaches, especially once multiplex chains and more centres open full-fledged bookings. ## The trend indicates that Coolie can go o to score 100+ crores pre-sales gross for the first day. Given the current trend, Coolie is well on track to deliver one of the biggest worldwide openings ever for an Indian film, with trade circles predicting a possible record-breaking day one for Tamil cinema. ## (Note - Some data in the Sacnilk advance booking report is missing) ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie Advance Booking Starts On A Blockbuster Note In India

Chennai, August 8 - After the excellent response overseas, the advance booking of superstar Rajinikanth's highly-awaited gangster action thriller Coolie has kicked off on a blockbuster note in the domestic market too, proving the huge buzz it carries. ## Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the pre-sales of Coolie have already begun in Kerala, and the initial response is nothing short of extraordinary. As I type this, the movie has already sold nearly 200K tickets worth over 3 crore gross in Kerala, and the number is increasing rapidly. In the early hours, it sold 50K tickets per hour. ## Once the all-India booking commences, expect Coolie to sell over 100K tickets per hour as the hype is real. Still early days, but the initial response shows that the film might take the biggest openings in Kerala, and if the same momentum continues, the movie has the potential to break records for a Tamil title. ## As said, the overseas bookings for Coolie are excellent and are nearing 30 crores gross for the opening day. Trade predicts that it is heading to take the biggest opening for a Tamil title in the international markets, beating Thalapathy Vijay's Leo (66 crores). ## Produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie stars Rajinikanth in the lead, supported by a star-studded ensemble including Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and a special cameo by Aamir Khan. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose soundtrack has already become a rage among fans. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14 and will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. ## Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth's Coolie Overseas Advance Booking: Thalapathy Vijay's Leo Opening Day Record In Danger

Chennai, August 7 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj might just outdo himself at the overseas box office as his upcoming gangster action drama Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth, is threatening to outgross the opening day record of his previous blockbuster, Leo, which starred Thalapathy Vijay in the leading role. ## The Rajinikanth-starrer is among the most anticipated Indian movies of the year, and the overseas pre-sales are proof of it. With huge hype around it, Coolie is showing great momentum in pre-sales and has already grossed around 25 crores for the opening day (including premiere), and there are still a week left for the release. ## In North America alone, the premiere pre-sales of Coolie have crossed a staggering $1.5 million with 7 days to go, and the film is now within striking distance of beating Rajinikanth's own Kabali, which holds the current record for the biggest Tamil premiere day in the region with $1.92 million. The film is also showing impressive trends in other key markets such as the UK, Malaysia, Australia, and the UAE. ## The overseas pre-sales of Coolie are on par with Thalapathy Vijay's Leo at the same time, and if the momentum continues, the Rajinikanth-starrer could emerge as the biggest Tamil opener outside India, beating Leo, which took the opening of around 66 crores gross. ## There is a fight for the screens going on as Coolie is competing with Yash Raj Films' War 2, which releases on the same day. Despite that, the Tamil blockbuster has taken a significant lead over the Bollywood tentpole in overseas pre-sales. ## The big question now is whether Coolie can match or exceed Leo's global opening of 143 crore. With the domestic clash with Yash Raj Films' hugely anticipated spy action thriller War 2 expected to impact collections in India, all eyes are on the overseas box office, where Rajinikanth’s magnetic pull could once again rewrite records. ## Stay tuned...

Chennai, August 6 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is busy with the promotion of superstar Rajinikanth-fronted gangster action drama Coolie, one of the most awaited films of the year. "Karthi never treated me like a newcomer. For me, he is a big star. He also confirmed that the script is nearing completion and that filming will begin after his current project with Rajinikanth (Coolie) wraps up. ## Kaithi 2 is the 4th film in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, after Kaithi Leo (2023), Vikram (2022), and Kaithi (2019).
