Lijo Jose Pellissery's Malayalam Movie 'Jallikattu' is India's Official Entry in The 2020 Oscars

The Film Federation of India has selected Lijo Jose Pellissery's Malayalam movie "Jallikattu" as the country's official representative in the 93rd Academy Awards' best international feature category. A 14-member committee of the FDI, that picks the Indian nominee every year, made the announcement on Wednesday.## Jallikattu has been a festival favorite around the world having played at Toronto, London, Busan, and Stockholm in 2019 and at Rotterdam in 2020. Pellissery won the best director at the International Film Festival of India, Goa in 2019.## The story of the film revolves around a tamed buffalo that escapes from a slaughterhouse in a hilly remote village of Kerala's Idduki district. To hunt down the buffalo, the whole village gathers which exposes deep societal fissures in the process.## INDIA'S OFFICIAL ENTRY TO #OSCARS... #Malayalam film #Jallikattu will be #India’s official entry to the 93rd Academy Awards 2021 #Oscars. pic.twitter.com/qxPpfvT83a— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) November 25, 2020 ## The movie was selected among the 26 other contenders which are - The Sky is Pink, Gunjan Saxena, Shakuntala Devi, Gulabo Sitabo, Chippa, Chhalaang, The Disciple, Shikara, Bittersweet, Is Love Enough, Sir, Moothon, Kalira Atita, Bulbbul, Kaamyaab, Chintu Ka Birthday, The Check Post, Eeb Allay Ooo, Bahattar Hoorian, Malang, Bhavai, AK Vs AK, Chhapaak, Bhonsle, Serious Men, I Pad and Atkan Chatkan.## India has been sending entries to the Oscars' erstwhile foreign-language category since 1957 and has been nominated three times, for "Mother India" (1958), "Salaam Bombay!" (1989), and "Lagaan" (2002).## The 93rd Academy Awards that were earlier scheduled to be held in February, will now take place on April 25, 2021, in Los Angeles after being pushed back by two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. ## Stay tuned...
