Filmmaker Mani Ratnam Reveals He Rejected Superstar Rajinikanth's Request To Play Supporting Role In 'Ponniyin Selvan 1'

Chennai, September 17 - Filmmaker Mani Ratnam is gearing up for the release of his long-awaited epic period action film Ponniyin Selvan: I, which is scheduled to release on September 30 in multiple Indian languages. ## The film is boosted by a solid star cast, including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others in prominent roles. The film tells the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I (947 CE – 1014 CE).## The cast of PS1 could have been one of the biggest names in Indian cinema had Mani Ratnam not rejected his request. ## During the press meet in Chennai, Mani Ratnam revealed that superstar Rajinikanth had requested to play the supporting role in the movie. However, he rejected Thalaivaa's request as he couldn't have satisfied superstar's huge fanbase by giving him a simple supporting role. ## "Ponniyin Selvan: I" is produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan. The film will be released in two parts, second part will release after 6-9 months of "PS1". Chennai, September 12 - Thalapathy Vijay will be headlining the 100th film of Super Good Films, confirmed by actor Jiiva, the son of producer R B Choudhary, who owns Super Good Films. ## Super Good Films gave a big break to the Tamil superstar in 1996's "Poove Unakkaga", a film that many consider the turning point of Vijay's career. The production house is now in the process of making its 96th film and inching towards its 100th film quickly. ## At a recent media interaction, actor Jiiva was asked whether Vijay would agree to work in its 100th film. Thalapathy Vijay's 'Varisu' Non-Theatrical Rights Sold At Massive Price

Chennai, September 12 - Thalapathy Vijay is the king of the box office and his films have always managed to do great collections irrespective of the critics' reviews. Chennai, September 4 - Ace Tamil director Vetrimaaran's much-awaited crime thriller film Viduthalai will be released in two parts, announced the makers on the director's birthday today (Sept. 4). The film stars Soori in the lead and Vijay Sethupathi as 'Vaathiyaar'. ## The shooting of "Viduthalai 1" has already been completed and post-production work is on in full swing. Only a few portions are left to wrap up the shooting of "Viduthalai 2", which is currently happening in Sirumalai and Kodaikannal.## Produced by RS Infotainment's Elred Kumar, the 'Viduthalai' franchise is believed to be made on a whopping budget. Box Office: Thiruchitrambalam Races Past 100 Crores Worldwide To Emerge Biggest Grosser For Dhanush

Chennai, August 30 - Tamil star Dhanush's Thiruchitrambalam has performed exceptionally well at the box office, as a result, it has raced past the 100 crores mark worldwide. Directed by Mithran R Jawahar, the romantic comedy-drama film has become the first for Dhanush to achieve this box office milestone. ## "Thiruchitrambalam" scored a fantastic 50.45 crores in the opening week and continues to mint money in the second week as well, taking a total net collection to 65.47 crores after 12 days. Chiyaan Vikram's 'Dhruva Natchathiram' To Release In December 2022?

Chennai, August 25 - Tamil star Chiyaan Vikram's last theatrical film was "Kadaram Kondan" in 2019, and since then, he has had only one release in the form of "Mahaan", and it was direct to release via Amazon Prime Video in February this year. ## Chiyaan Vikram is now gearing up for his big screen comeback with the upcoming movie "Cobra", scheduled to release on August 31. It is not the only film of him releasing in theaters this year as filmmaker Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, "Ponniyin Selvan: I", in which he is playing the role of a prince Aditya Karikalan, is also scheduled for September 30. ## While the aforementioned films are confirmed to release, if all goes well, the actor could have his third theatrical release this year. According to reports, Vikram's long-awaited "Dhruva Natchathiram" is progressing to release in December this year.
