Clearing the air after weeks of intense speculation, director Anees Bazmee has officially declared the project open, confirming that he is indeed reuniting with superstar Akshay Kumar for a high-profile entertainer. While the film has been widely reported as a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Bazmee clarified that the team has focused on a re-imagined narrative tailored for the national audience. Speaking on the project's progress, the filmmaker expressed confidence, stating, All I can say is that hamari film acchi hai.Mehnat poori ki hai humne Anees Bazmee further provided the first official look at the film's powerhouse ensemble, confirming a mix of seasoned veterans and popular fresh talent. The director stated, The film stars Akshay ji, Vidya ji, Raashii Khanna, Vijay Raaz, Zakir Hussain, Sayaji Shinde and others. This announcement has sent waves of excitement through the industry, primarily because it marks the return of the legendary Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan pairing. The duo shares a prolific history at the box office, having previously delivered several major hits. After appearing together in Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Heyy Babyy in 2007, they reunited for Thank You in 2011 and most recently for the 2019 blockbuster Mission Mangal.Notably, Anees Bazmee himself previously directed the pair in the 2011 comedy Thank You, making this project a significant full-circle moment for the trio.Produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film is expected to begin its primary filming schedule immediately. The original Telugu film, which featured Venkatesh Daggubati and was directed by Anil Ravipudi, emerged as a massive success during the 2025 Sankranthi season. Known for its blend of high-stakes action and signature Ravipudi comedy, the film is considered a perfect fit for Akshay Kumar's versatile screen presence. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   Akshay Kumar has a remarkably prolific slate lined up for 2026 and 2027, focusing heavily on successful franchises and high-energy entertainers. One of the biggest highlights is the superstar returning to his iconic comedy roots with Welcome To The Jungle and the long-awaited Hera Pheri 3, both of which are expected to be major crowd-pullers. Beyond franchises, Akshay is expanding his portfolio with diverse collaborations. He is teaming up with director Priyadarshan after a long hiatus for the horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla, aiming to recreate the magic of their previous hits.By balancing these large-scale original films with proven franchise sequels and successful South Indian remakes, Akshay Kumar is positioning himself for a massive theatrical comeback. With music director Bheems Cecirolio and producer Dil Raju backing his latest venture, the upcoming years are set to be a busy and decisive period for the star's box office trajectory. The move by Akshay Kumar to return to the remake genre follows a period of experimentation with original scripts. Trade analysts suggest that a commercial entertainer like Sankranthiki Vasthunam could provide the box office pull required for the star in the current theatrical climate. With Dil Raju's production expertise and Bheems Cecirolio's mass-oriented music, the project is already being positioned as a strong contender for a 2027 holiday release. As of now, an official announcement regarding the title and the rest of the ensemble cast for the Akshay Kumar starrer is expected from the makers in the coming weeks

Akshay Kumar Team Up With Top South Producer For Telugu Blockbuster Sankranthiki Vasthunam's Hindi Remake

Mumbai, October 13 - One of the biggest Telugu blockbusters of the year, Sankranthiki Vasthunam, is reportedly getting ready to be remade in Hindi with superstar Akshay Kumar. Originally directed by Anil Ravipudi and starring Venkatesh Daggubati, the action comedy was released in January 2025 and went on to gross over 250 crores worldwide. According to the recent reports, producer Dil Raju, who backed the original film, will be producing the Hindi remake. He has reportedly locked Anees Bazmee to direct the remake, marking the filmmaker's reunion with Akshay after 17 years, since the release of Singh Is Kinng (2008). (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Since the news came out, multiple reports stated that Bazmee and Akshay are indeed reuniting, but they dismissed that it will be a remake of the Telugu blockbuster. According to Bollywood Hungama, the duo's next project is a reimagined version of Venkatesh-led Sankranthiki Vasthunam. The Bollywood superstar will play the lead role, originally played by Venkatesh Daggubati. It is said that Anees and Akshay loved the plot of the lead character stuck between his wife and ex-girlfriend that Sankranthiki Vasthunam rides on. Discussions are ongoing to finalise the two female leads, along with other cast and crew members. It is an interesting as well as a risky choice of Akshay Kumar to do a remake, at a time when franchise and remake films are struggling at the box office. However, with big names attached to it, the Hindi version may strike gold if executed well, keeping the sensibility of the Hindi audiences. Stay tuned...

Post-Pandemic Tamil Cinema Box Office: Thalapathy Vijay Leads With 1800 Crore, Rajinikanth Follows Closely in Second Place

Chennai, August 26 - Tamil cinema has looked like a completely different beast at the box office in the post-pandemic era, where the industry delivered massive results in India and overseas. While there is still one missing piece (1000 crores grosser), the industry has witnessed three 500+ crore grossers, a milestone, which was achieved only once before the health crisis. Amid the rising popularity of Tamil cinema, two names continue to dominate the industry — Thalapathy Vijay and Superstar Rajinikanth, who are miles ahead of the rest of the others. Between 2021 and 2025, the two megastars have collectively grossed nearly 3,400 crore worldwide, proving their unmatched star power and consistent ability to draw audiences to theatres. Thalapathy Vijay leads the chart with an estimated 1,800 crore gross from his five films released after the pandemic. Starting with Master, with blockbusters like Beast, Varisu, Leo, and The GOAT, Vijay has delivered two 300+ crore grossers (Leo and The GOAT), with Varisu missed the milestone by a couple of crores, while Master and Beast finished over 200 crores globally, strengthening his position as the number one star of Tamil cinema in terms of box office pull. Vijay's ability to cater to both mass and family audiences has ensured strong openings and sustained runs globally. Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, remains his biggest grosser with 606 crores worldwide. The actor has one more film, Jana Nayagan, on Pongal 2026, before he hangs up his boots to join politics full-time. With his decision of not doing films anymore, the industry will be up without its biggest crowd-puller, someone who was the only challenge to superstar Rajinikanth. The 75-year-old Rajinikanth is not far behind Vijay in terms of delivering massive box office results. The veteran actor's films (including Lal Salaam) have amassed around 1600 crore worldwide during the same period. Movies like Annaatthe, Jailer, Vettaiyan, and his latest gangster action drama Coolie have reaffirmed Rajinikanth's status as the ultimate crowd-puller. His films continue to shatter records with massive openings, particularly in Tamil Nadu, and also enjoy remarkable runs in overseas markets. In the post-COVID period, Rajinikanth has delivered two record 500+ crores grossers (Jailer and Coolie), while Vettaiyan finished around 250 crores, and Annaatthe missed the double century mark by around 28 crores gross. Jailer (605 crores) remains the biggest grosser of the superstar during the period. Going ahead, Thalaivaar has a potential record-breaking blockbuster in the pipeline, including Jailer 2, and a multistarrer film with Lokesh Kanagaraj. The numbers underline how Tamil cinema has become a driving force in Indian box office collections post-COVID, with both Vijay and Rajinikanth proving their supremacy. Rajinikanth will most probably overtake Vijay with the kind of films he has, especially with Vijay retiring from films after Jana Nayagan. While Tamil cinema will be without Thalapathy, Thalaivaar is expected to fill his void in the long run. Stay tuned...
