Dangal remains the biggest Indian grosser of all-time with 2070 crores worldwide. However, trade often mentions this film in history books with caution. The film's more than 60% collection came from China, a market where only a handful of Indian released due to strict censorship policies.

Reasons Dhurandhar 2 Failed To Beat Dangal In Bid To Become Biggest Indian Grosser Worldwide

Mumbai, April 23 - The box office journey of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has been nothing short of historic, but the bigger picture now reveals a fascinating reality. While the film is within touching distance of Baahubali 2, surpassing Dangal is now a pipe dream.

It is not that Dhurandhar 2 was always going to surpass Dangal's lifetime worldwide collection of 2070 crores, as the latter had the rare advantage that most Indian films never had and still don't have - China. However, China was not the only thing that stopped the Ranveer Singh starrer from achieving ultimate glory. Here are some of the reasons that prevented Dhurandhar 2 from beating Dangal.

No China and Gulf Effect

A major pillar behind Dangal's historic success was its extraordinary performance in China, where it minted a staggering 1300+ crores. The film witnessed an unprecedented reception there, contributing a massive portion to its worldwide total. It was the luxury Dhurandhar 2 didn't have (yet).

On top of China, Dhurandhar 2 also had a setback when it comes to the Gulf markets, one of the biggest revenue sources for Indian films. Due to its anti-Pakistan content, the film faces a ban in the region, preventing it from adding another 100 crores or so to its massive global tally.

In terms of regular markets, Dhurandhar 2's overseas performence has been historic. Without China, Dangal grossed 230 crores in international markets. On the other hand, the spy action thriller has already scored 422+ crores without any support from China as well as the Gulf. This shows how decisive China market proved in favour of Aamir Khan's sports biopic.

No Strong Regional Languages Turnout

It is not something comparable with Dangal, but to make it up for China advantange and beat it, Dhurandhar 2 needed more from other Indian languages, especially in Telugu, than what it got. In the era of Pan India dominance, multi lingual statergy has played a pivotal roles. The biggest Telugu blockbusters has one thing common - Hindi.

A large share of total domestic, or take worldwide collection for Telugu origin movies have come from Hindi languages, be it Pushpa 2, Baahubali 2, RRR, and others. The trade was betting big on other languages, especially after the first film got incredibaly positive reception from Southern Indian audiences. Dhurandhar 2 too got super positive word of mouth, but it didn't entirely translated into ticket sales.

While the movie performence well in Telugu states and Karnataka, it couldn't find a breakout success in regional languages, grossing around 80 crores in South Indian languages, an incredibaly low number as compared to what a Telugu film of this level could have make in Hindi. As a result, Dhurandhar 2 will end up as the third biggest grosser at the Indian box office, behind Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2.

Adult Certification Barrier

One of the biggest structural disadvantages for Dhurandhar 2 was its adult (A) certification. This significantly restricted its audience base, keeping younger viewers and a large section of family audiences away from theatres. While the target audience flocked to theatres, the adult rating still kept a large number of people away from it, which ultimately reduced total potential of footfalls, even though Dhurandhar 2 is still the greatest adult rated Indian blockbuster.

Impact of Long Runtime

Runtime is an often overlooked but crucial factor in box office performance, and when mixed with high ticket prices, it becomes a deadly combo against the film's overall potential. Dhurandhar 2's lengthy duration (nearly 4 hours) reduced the number of shows theatres could screen in a day. Over time, this limits overall ticket sales, especially when compared to films with tighter runtimes. Exibitors did try to make it up by scheduling round the clock showcasing but the capacity issue was still there.

Dhurandhar Duology Tops 3000 Crores Worldwide; Creates History For Indian Cinema By Becoming The First Film Series To Do So

BY SACNILK

Mumbai, April 12 - The two-part Dhurandhar film series has scripted history at the global box office. With the phenomenal performance of both instalments, the combined worldwide gross of the duology has now surpassed the 3000 crore mark, making it the first Indian film series ever to achieve this extraordinary feat. It is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under the banner of Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The journey began with Dhurandhar, which was released to massive expectations and went on to deliver a blockbuster run, crossing the 1000 crore mark at the worldwide as well as domestic box office. The film established a strong foundation for what would eventually become one of Indian cinema's biggest franchises. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Dhurandhar - A Box Office Juggernaut and Foundation Stone Before the release of Dhurandhar on December 5, 2025, trade had doubts even though the film was carrying a decent buzz. However, once it hit the big screens, it was up and running for something very special at the box office. Audiences accepted the film with open arms, and with a never-ending debate around it, Dhurandhar became an unstoppable force at the global box office. The spy action thriller went on to become the highest-grossing film at the Hindi box office with 840+ crores net (1000+ crore gross) after an extraordinary hold over weeks. Worldwide, it finished its theatrical run with over 1300 crores, making it the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of all-time, and the third biggest grosser without China. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Dhurandhar 2 - A New Peak For Indian Cinema Building on the momentum of the first film, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, which was released just four months after its predecessor, has taken things to an entirely new level. The Ranveer Singh-led action spectacle has turned into a box office juggernaut, amassing well over 1700 crore globally and continuing its dream run in several territories. It not only became the biggest Hindi net grosser, but also went on to become the first film ever to top 1000 crores net in a single language at the Indian box office. The duology's exceptional performance in both domestic and international markets has been instrumental in pushing the franchise past the historic 3000 crore milestone. Both films have not only crossed the ₹1000 crore benchmark individually but have also sustained strong theatrical runs, driven by repeat value, mass appeal, and high-octane storytelling. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the Dhurandhar series has redefined the scale of action filmmaking in Indian cinema. With its blend of patriotism, raw action, and rooted narrative, the franchise has struck a chord with audiences across demographics, not just in India but globally. The 3000 crore milestone is not just a number; it signifies a shift in the way Indian franchises are perceived on the global stage. For years, Indian cinema has produced individual blockbusters, but the Dhurandhar duology proves that multipart storytelling can now rival the biggest film series worldwide. Top 5 Biggest Third Week Grossers In Hindi: Dhurandhar 2 Clears 100 Crore Net To Beat Pushpa 2

Mumbai, April 10 - Director Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues its phenomenal box office run, delivering a massive third week at the domestic box office. The Ranveer Singh starrer has collected over 100 crore net in its third week (Hindi), maintaining its record-breaking momentum. 100+ Crore Net Third Week In Hindi The film raked in approximately 104.50 crore net in its third week in Hindi, surpassing the third-week Hindi collections of Pushpa 2, which stood at 103 crore. However, despite this strong performance, it couldn't match the extraordinary third-week figure of its predecessor, Dhurandhar, which had amassed a staggering 172 crore net. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Unlike the first film, which witnessed exceptional growth driven by strong word of mouth, Dhurandhar 2 has been heavily frontloaded. The sequel opened to massive curiosity and hype, largely fueled by the legacy of the original film and strong audience anticipation. Top 5 Biggest Third Week In Hindi S. It has already amassed over 980 crore net, and will be opening this exclusive club this weekend. How Far Dhurandhar 2 Can Go In Hindi? Dhurandhar 2 has already sold over 3.50 crores tickets in Hindi and is around the first film's 3.70 crores lifetime admissions. While the trajectory of the sequel is slowing down as compared to the first film, it should still be able to hit 4 crore admissions in the original Hindi version, which keeps it on course to finish around 1100 crores net in the Hindi version alone. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The trade was expecting Dhurandhar 2 to finish its Hindi run at around 1200+ crores net, which might not be possible now, given the trend and new releases next week. Irrespective of where the film ends its theatrical run, it has already etched its name in history and created records which will be hard nut to crack for upcoming films. In the immediate future, Ramayana is coming later this year, which has the potential to beat Dhurandhar 2's numbers, which needs to be seen.
